Relax and get away from it all at this charming river front bungalow. Cacapon River is at your door step. Huge flat open yard. Great firepit with plenty of wood available. Just a short drive to World renowned Berkeley Springs, a hub for natural bath waters and the arts. Be sure to check out Cacapon State Park also. Voted one of the best golf courses in West Virginia. Paw Paw, WV is ten mins west which joins the C&O Biking/Hiking Trail over the Potomac River to Maryland. Don't miss the Paw Paw Tunnel and have pizza and ice cream at Ellie's. Local store just five mins away with MTO food. The store is a great place to put in the river and float back to the house!

About Susan House
My husband and I wanted a place that we and our guests can enjoy on the river. We love to fish and kayak and have camp fires. This is the perfect little getaway for us and we hope we can share that with you.

Excellent Escape from the Daily Grind
We enjoyed coming to this little cottage on the river! We wish it was later in the year and warmer so we could have enjoyed the hammock and river. Everything you needed was provided in the cottage minus your food. There are two small stores where you can pickup food/supplies if needed. But if you need gas you have to go over to Berkley Springs as neither small town has a gas station. The furniture was nice and the beds comfy enough. The shower is small and hotwater is limited so you must turn the water on/off as you shower if you expect it to last. We did manage to catch a few fish but the bank is about 3-4ft above the water so kids may have a hard time fishing without getting tangled everytime they cast and real in. There is absolutely no cell signal at the cottage so you have to use the wifi to message but there is a landline phone to use in an emergency. We would stay here again!
Thank you so much for your review Chris. The Town of Paw Paw is about ten mins up the road west and they have gas for future reference. Welcome back again. Discount for repeat guests!
Amazing riverside place
Thank you, Susan, for trusting us with your HOME! My family had a very quiet and nice vacation at this lovely location. It was peaceful and serene. Everything was perfect.
Perfect for a quick getaway...and it's wallet friendly!
This was a great getaway from the DC/NoVa area. Huge plot of land right there on the river. Everything about it was cozy and comfortable. Screened-in porch was our savior when the rain hit or if we wanted to sit outside without putting bug spray on. Kitchen had all the essentials for basic meals, the grill worked perfectly, and they even had firewood for us ready to go. Highly recommend, we'll be back!
We had high hopes for a get away with our daughter and little dog. The week of rain before we arrived and the recently cut grass limited our time out back and in the river. We never could find the kayak/canoe. Lovely location, nice big yard, fire pit & grill worked out well. Our biggest issue became the shower, it was hard to manage with a small child and not a lot of wiggle room for an adult.
Relaxing & peaceful location
We had a wonderful long weekend at Susan's cabin! Great location, quiet, and perfect for a peaceful getaway. Our dog absolutely loved the big yard and swimming in the river. The cabin's amenities are basic but just what we needed, since we were there to explore the area and enjoy the outdoors. Highly recommended!!
Charming cabin for a quiet getaway.
This river front cottage has all you need for a remote retreat. The bed in master bedroom is comfortable, everything was clean, hosts are generous with necessities like paper goods and food staples. The screened porch was my favorite part of the house and due to heavy rains up river I could often see water flowing by while sitting on the porch (It's just 150 feet or so in front of the house.). All the basics are here. If you're looking for extra amenities and luxury, look elsewhere. If you want charm, quiet, and serenity, this is a great option. Susan and Mark are friendly and responsive. Everything in the house worked great, they did stop by to take away the garbage and we had a chance to chat then. Driveway is steep enough that you'll probably want a AWD in winter or when snow is likely. Overall a lovely spot for a single, couple, or small family to enjoy the Cacapon by day and stargaze at night.
