Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday apartment in Tarzo - Collaldra

Self-catering rental apts.in beautiful 16th c farmhouse 40 minutes from Venice

Collaldra is a 16th century farmhouse of English owners set in the seclusion of its 15 acre hill of woodland, vineyard, pasture and gardens. It has its own little church, Roman ruin, a unique large swimming pool filled with mountain spring water, a badminton court and table tennis.

The stables and hayloft have been converted into two self-contained apartments. Each comprises a large living room with an open fireplace and a convertible sofa for two extra guests, kitchen with dishwasher, large shower room , double and twin bedrooms. There is satellite television and a DVD player in each apartment. Both have their own separate entrances, garden area with table, chairs and barbecue. The apartments may be rented separately or for the larger family or group can be rented together. Perfect for quiet getaway holiday in beautiful surroundings.

The Veneto: The Veneto is greener and has a more comfortable climate than more southern parts of Italy. It has a wealth of wonderful historic cites: Venice, Verona, Vicenza, Asolo and Treviso are all easily accessible by the excellent, cheap and efficient Italian train service which is just 10 minutes from the apartments. You can even get to Florence from our local station by Eurostar in about 3 and a half hours!

The Veneto and Venice have never been more economical to visit. Because of the huge difference in air ticket prices day-to-day, we are not insisting on a particular change-over day as long as it fits with bookings we already have. This also means we can offer extra nights beyond our minimum seven, pro rata the weekly rates.

Things to see and do: There is so much else to experience in the Veneto. From the delightful local restaurants and trattorias where you eat so well and so cheaply to hang gliding off San Boldo for the more adventurous. Lago de Santa Croce which is Italy's most famous lake for wind-surfing is only half an hour's drive. And the beautiful beaches of the Adriatic are about one hour's drive away. It goes without saying that the Veneto has some wonderful Palladium villas, churches, cathedrals and museums all within easy distance from Collaldra. And Venice speaks for itself with its Grand Canal, the cathedral of San Marco, churches, galleries and the Islands easily reached by the vaporetto (water bus).

Local Events: The great local markets, Vittorio Veneto, Conigliano and Piave de Soligo - Monday, Friday and Saturday all within a 20 minute drive - are a must where you can buy anything for very little money. The people are very helpful and friendly even if you don't speak the language.

There are may other attractions for example from June through to September there are festivals throughout the area where they celebrate the harvest and anything else they can think of just so they can eat, drink, talk, laugh and dance to local bands under the stars

One of the most popular sports in our area because of the hills is cycling.

We can arrange to hire bicycles and also put you in touch with the local cycling clubs.

About Jacky Stoller (The Owner)

My husband, Barrie Keeffe is a playwright, screenwriter and University lecturer - I am a Television Producer & Company Director. If you would like to know more about us just log on to our sister site: collaldraschoolofwriting.com We run a writing school/retreat in June and in the autumn from Collaldra.

Jacky Stoller (The Owner) purchased this apartment in 1990

Why Jacky Stoller (The Owner) chose Treviso area

We were looking for a large old property with a view to turning part of the property into holiday apartments and eventually a summer school. Collaldra when we found it was very dilapidated and in need of modernisation which was only to be expected from a 16th century farmhouse. We have gradually changed the house, apartments and grounds and we hope without losing the character of the old house.

What makes this apartment unique

The house is on a hill in beautiful grounds with glorious views of the pre-Dolomite hills with their snow capped peaks. In the summer there is always a cool breeze and the natural pool - filled with water from the mountains - is wonderfully relaxing and is supposed to be therapeutic Even the Italians when they come up to see us call it 'a piccolo paradiso'!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We spent 3 wounderful weeks in Colladra with our two sons (13 and 4 years old). The building is located on top of a hill, a place of peace and quiescence. Nearby there are antique ruins and a marvellous swimming pool reconstruted in an acient basin. The place is remindful of an "ideal landscape" like to old painters used to describe. The apartments are large and comfortable.

Major places of interest are nearby: Treviso, Belluno, Italian Dolomites Venice, Padua and others. 45min to the beaches.

All in all: perfect location to visit the district:

Recommended for families with or without kids or dogs.

Delightful Getaway

  • 4 of 5

It is well worth the drive up the precarious access road, because the location is very relaxing. Jacky and Barrie are perfect hosts and the pool is a bonus to the unspoilt views across the valley. The apartment was comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. The property makes a superb location from which to explore this beautiful region and we would recommend a stay here to get out of town, but not too remote.

Jacky's Apartment

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely weekend in Jacky's lovely ground floor apartment. The setting was peaceful with a lovely view. We loved sitting outside and I am sure the wisteria will be beautiful when it blooms. Anita, Jacky's housekeeper was a great host and made us very welcome. Would recommend for a holiday. Tod and Carol, Andorra

Beautiful appartment in the Italian hills

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a lovely week in Jacky and Barry's appartment with our three sons. The garden, with badminton and table tennis, was great fun, and everyone enjoyed the pool. Jacky was most welcoming - even doing a big shop for us prior to arrival, as we arrived on a bank holiday. We hope to return soon.

Simply gorgeous

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from the most wonderful holiday at Collaldra. Jacky, Barrie and Italian helper Anita couldn't have made us feel more welcome. We visited with our 15 year old daughter who said on our last night she would come back in a heartbeat.

We stayed during an extreme heatwave (33-36 daily), but the top apartment remained cool inside the thick old walls and being so high up means you get stunning views of the surrounding countryside and also a slight breeze. With the local towns and Venice being even hotter, we spent more hours than expected under the shady fig tree overlooking the pool with our books - there was simply no need to move!

When we did venture out we found lovely local restaurants, very friendly people and lots of interesting things to see and do without having to drive too far. Venice is very easy for a day trip as well.

The apartment definitely has rustic charm, but is spotlessly clean and has everything you need for a restful holiday. The road/track up the hill to the house will get your pulse racing the first time you attempt it, but gets much easier with practice.

Thank you Jacky and Barrie for sharing your lovely home with us - we hope to return.

Perfect Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from our second most enjoyable holiday in Collaldra in North Italy at the foot of the spectacular Dolomites.

The house itself, an imaginatively converted 18th Century farmhouse, is stunningly beautiful and makes inspired use of its setting. It has spacious and comfortable family accommodation, well equipped with all mod cons.

Inspired use has been made of it’s unique setting with attractive gardens leading to a very pleasant swimming pool.

The panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and countryside are breathtaking. The setting is peaceful and secluded and from here there are a number of excellent walks. The nearby town is a short and a very pleasant walk away where there is a very good Supermarket, Baker and Butchers.

There are superb restaurants in the surrounding countryside, which are easily accessible by car, where the food is as wonderful as the surroundings.

We enjoyed a perfect day in Venice, which is easily accessible by train.

Jacky and Barrie are warm, welcoming and perfect hosts, friendly and helpful above and beyond what was necessary.

Collaldra is a wonderful place for a holiday. Reading, lazing in the sunshine, swimming in the pool, walking, and eating in the superb nearby restaurants all make for a perfect laid-back and relaxing break. This was also a holiday packed with fantastic places to visit. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend it and we look forward to returning.

Perfect - picollo paradiso indeed.

  • 5 of 5

The pool is bigger and more fun than photography can show, the setting is tranquil, the hospitality was spot on. It was an absolutely brilliant place to stay and we were sorry to leave after just one week. We never tired of the scenery, the quiet, the so-friendly but discrete hospitality of both Jacky/Barrie and the local Italian helpers. An hour from Venice, two from Verona. Really was a perfect stay. We never write reviews on websites... but like our holiday at La Collaldra, this is an exception.

Nestling in the foothills of the Dolomites Collaldra is our lovely 16th century farmhouse close to Venice, Verona (for world famous opera) Treviso, Vicenza, Padova, Asolo to the South and Cortina, Trieste, Austria and Slovenia to the north. It is in easy reach of the beautiful beaches of the Adriatic. We are also right in the middle of the Prosecco area - wherever you go the fields are covered with the prosecco grapes and there are many places where you can stop and sample the delicious wine.

There is a great shopping to be had at our local towns Conigliano and Treviso with inexpensive markets on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays.

For the more adventurous there is wind surfing available at Italy's most famous lake, Lago de Santa Croce which is only half an hour's drive and there is an 18 hole golf course at Cansiglio which is a three-quarters of an hour's drive from Collaldra. Horse riding is also available locally.

We have had some really serious cyclists staying with us and this is just one of their quotes:

"One of my great joys in life is cycling and especially cycling through beautiful scenery in great weather. The Veneto in July provided scenery and weather to die for. I had by chance booked accommodation in a cycling nirvana especially the route to the Passo San Baldo where the road rises approx 650m at an average of 7% gradient and has a series of ramps connected by hairpins and it is as gruelling as it is beautiful. The climb to the top is rewarded with views to the south over the flat Venetian plain all the way to Venice and the north to the "real" Alps/Dolomites.

The whole area is a paradise for cyclists with many quiet back roads and marked trails to explore. There are also marked routes around the Prosecco Vineyards which not cycle specific do follow quiet and scenic routes.

He ends by saying: 'If you are considering a holiday in the Veneto and would like to do some cycling while there then Collaldra should definitely be on your short list".

We are also connected through our local town of Conegliano to fast rail services that include the Eurostar. Venice is 40 minutes away, Florence is 3 hours and Verona & Vicenze 90 minutes.

Other Activities: Cultural visits to Venice, opera at Verona, Palladian villas at Vicenza, Treviso with Florence three and a half hours from our local station by Eurostar. An all day river trip down the Brenta Canal from Vicenza to Venice is also a must see passing - and stoppping for lunch - at the most beautiful Palladian villas en route.

NB: If you would like to read our cyclist's 2 page recommendation including where to book bikes etc., I would be happy to email it to you.
