Just steps from the property, explore the Blow Me Down Covered Bridge, or climb down and wade into the brook for some adventuresome rock hopping. During your stay, be sure to pay a visit to St. Gaudens National Historic Site for a variety of wonderful outdoor concerts and events, and learn about Cornish’s history as an art colony. Drive just a few miles down the road to cross the famous Cornish-Windsor Covered Bridge spanning the Connecticut River, but be sure to walk your horses or pay 2 dollars fine!

Pull out your bid card at the Smith Auction Gallery in Plainfield and bid on fine antiques at an authentic auction. Venture a little further to the town of Quechee, Vermont for abundant restaurant and shopping destinations, which range from antique stores to elegant glass blowing studios. Hanover, New Hampshire, home to Dartmouth College, is located a short distance away, boasting an endless array of local boutiques and restaurants.

For those looking for outdoor adventure, visit Mount Ascutney for a scenic hike or mountain bike ride with mountain top views of huge stretches of the twin states, or rent a canoe and paddle down the Connecticut River. In the autumn, you'll be in the perfect spot to watch the leaves turn spectacular colors. Venture out to try zip-lining at one of the local resorts. Come winter, you’ll enjoy easy access to NH and Vermont's famous ski resorts such as Sunapee, Killington and Okemo, all an hour or less from our home.

About Suzanne Greenberg

I am a Sign Language Interpreter living on an island in Puget Sound near Seattle, WA. I chose to live on this small island because it reminded me so much of my family home in Cornish, NH. I love to live close to nature, garden, bike, ski, and backpack in the stupendous NW mountains.

Suzanne Greenberg purchased this house in 1966

Why Suzanne Greenberg chose New Hampshire

This house has been in my family since 1966, when I was three years old. We spent every summer, weekend, and school vacation there when I was growing up, and love it deeply. My two sisters and I now own it together, and we decided to start to share it with travelers when we're not using it. We hope you will love it as much as we do!

What makes this house unique

Our house is not in a vacation rental locale. It is a real neighborhood surrounded by families we have known our whole lives. Everyone around is friendly; in fact it is a tradition to wave at every passerby whether in a car, on a horse, a bicycle or on foot. The house is next to a brook, which tumbles by and goes under the covered bridge at the edge of our property. You can walk for miles, passing small houses, farms, and woods. After all these years, with all that has changed in the world, we can always count on Cornish to stay as it's been; small, rural, friendly and beautiful.

Outside Very Cold, But Inside Cozy

  • 5 of 5

Off the beaten path. Well appointed with condiments for cooking and no need to bring your own TP, etc.

We stayed at the house during an unusually cold snap with temperatures reaching -18F. House was warm and cozy. Has a gas fireplace which warms up the common room. It was too cold for skiing and other outdoor activities. For exercise, we obtained day passes to the Dartmouth athletic facilities. Movies at nearby Lebanon. Easy access to grocery shopping again in Lebanon or south in Windsor, VT.

This house is charming, and incredibly comfortable. Everything you need in a well stocked kitchen was supplied. Beautiful view of the mountains and pasture and a few steps away from a quaint covered bridge. Warm and comfy linens and bedrooms. We loved our stay and would definitely like to return!

The perfect New England retreat!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I took my parents here for a weekend getaway to enjoy the fall foliage. We’ve used Homeaway and Airbnb several times in the past. This is by far the most charming and well-appointed property we’ve stayed at. The home’s warmth was apparent from the first step over the threshold. Our weekend getaway quickly morphed into a restorative sanctuary!

The kitchen was equipped with EVERY item I desired. As an avid cook, that’s important to me.

The bedrooms were cozy. We typically travel with our own pillows, but forgot them on this trip. We didn’t miss them, because the pillows and linens were very comfortable.

The surroundings were quiet and peaceful. Great 3.5 mile route for a morning run or walk. Enjoyed the fresh air, woods, and bubbling brook.

Perfect retreat for 2 couples! We’ll be back!

Perfect retreat in historic Cornish Art Colony

  • 5 of 5

We were not optimistic when looking for rentals near my sister's house, but stumbled upon this gem. It comfortably accommodates our family of five. Outfitted with classic but comfortable furniture, an updated kitchen with all the appliances, a screen porch is nice for dining in all weather and bug seasons. It is nestled on a scenic dirt road between a covered bridge, a beautiful waterfall on the Blow-me-down Brook and horse farms. There are great country roads and trails for walking and biking, wild berries for the picking, and a quiet serenity perfect for just sitting with a book and listening to the birds. This home is a true paradise in the Upper Valley.
