When inquiring about the pool house please tell us a little about who would be staying and what brings you to Malibu.

Tranquil and peaceful, a stay here is really like being at your own private retreat!

We are a blissful eight minutes away from the noise and hubbub of Pacific Coast Highway but close enough to easily enjoy all that Malibu has to offer.

Located in the Carbon Canyon area of Malibu, the pool house is two miles from the beach and four miles from the heart of downtown Malibu with shops, markets and restaurants close at hand. Malibu is a large area-- 21 miles with many remote canyons-- but we are centrally located and just 20 minutes from Santa Monica (without traffic). Guests can eat dinner at Nobu and be home in less than ten minutes. Our canyon isn't really a "neighborhood"-- no sidewalks or street lights. Lots of wide open space, very few neighbors, an enormous ocean view and solitude.

The closest beaches are Carbon Beach (10 minutes away) and Surfrider Beach (otherwise known as 'Malibu Beach') two miles to the north. (Carbon Beach is private with limited public access). Great hiking trails (Saddlepeak and Backbone) are three miles up the canyon.

Surrounded by organic avocado, lemon and lime trees, the one-bedroom pool house has a private outdoor patio perfect for relaxation and sunbathing.

Carbon Canyon is very rural, quiet and abounding in wildlife. Hawks, owls, deer and other animals are daily and nightly visitors. The canyon is dark at night and without much light pollution providing wonderful star-gazing opportunities.

The pool house is airy and bright and furnished with authentic mid-century furniture. Full kitchen has a new, professional, restaurant grade Viking range, full size refrigerator and a microwave. Bathroom features a shower. Powerful A/C and heat keep the temperature perfect no matter the season.

The pool house is separate from the main house and a distance away. We give our guests their privacy but are available if needed.

100% cotton bedding and towels are provided and we use only natural, chemical and fragrance-free detergent, soaps and cleaning supplies. Full laundry and storage facility for luggage is adjacent to the pool house and is specifically for guests' use. An Apple TV, Harmon Kardon wireless speaker and strong Wifi are provided. The pool house is also stocked with board and card games, an extensive library of books on Los Angeles and Southern California architecture and history, and binoculars for bird and whale watching. The pool house is the perfect place to decompress and soak up the magical surroundings.

If you will be keeping late night hours (to us and our neighbors this is after 9:00PM) or leaving at 4:00 AM to catch a plane please DON'T book our property! This location is rural, not a typical urban residential area , and it is rough on us and our neighbors to have cars driving up and down our driveway at all hours. Our canyon is dark and silent and cars are a disturbance.

Please read the email you will receive from VRBO after you book so you have all the necessary check-in information. GPS is not always reliable in Malibu! Please check your itinerary through VRBO for exact directions and instructions. Because of Malibu's rural environment (no street lights and limited signage) we recommend arriving during daylight hours to make the drive easier. CHECK-IN IS BETWEEN 3:00P.M. and 8:00P.M. NO LATE-NIGHT check-ins please.

The pool house comfortably sleeps two people, MAX.

No unregistered guests on the property at any time unless agreed upon at the time of booking.

No deliveries, Uber or Lyft.

Due to safety concerns we are unable to accept children under the age of 12.

Malibu is an extremely high fire-risk area so please, NO SMOKING anywhere on the property!

Please drive SLOWLY past our neighbor's house and watch for children!

No loud voices or music on the pool deck or in the driveway in front of the main house.

The pool house is accessed via a long flight of railroad tie and gravel stairs to the left of the main house. The stairs may present a problem for some guests, however, we have hosted several pregnant women in their last weeks of pregnancy and they have not had difficulty. We don't recommend bringing large, heavy suitcases unless you are strong enough to carry them. (Wheeling them down the gravel staircase won't be easy).

The pool is unheated and the water is warm during the summer and fall months but quite cold in the winter and early spring!

The furniture in the pool house is not IKEA furniture! The furnishings are authentic and valuable mid-century pieces and should be treated accordingly. Please use coasters under drinks and be careful not to get sunscreen or food on surfaces.

This is a rural, country area--keep screen doors closed to prevent raccoons, mice, lizards, and insects from coming inside!

Don't hesitate, just book it now! Don't miss the opportunity! Absolutely gorgeous house with a perfect view nestled in the mountains. Such a serene oasis in a very quiet neighborhood. The house was immaculately maintained with high end furniture and appliances. Even the bed was super comfortable! The pool deck was very clean and beautiful. Shannon and Vitus were perfect hosts, they let us have our space but made it very clear they were available for anything we needed. Tons of privacy! Wish we could have stayed longer!!!

This place is special

I’m sitting at that small dining table. We check out in about 3 hours. I have a 180 degree view through all these sliding glass doors. Close by is the beautiful landscaping - palms, lavender, rosemary, succulents, avocado and citrus trees and more. Then a steep canyon and a big view of the ocean. We love it here. We spend a lot of time just enjoying the view and watching the birds play in the trees. It’s our third time here and we look forward to coming back.
