Listen to the quiet…
Do this for yourself. Our year-round private retreat has magnificent 180-degree views. Three sides of the large windows and deck are west and south-facing, overlooking sunsets, the ocean and miles of forest.
TO OUR WINTER GUESTS: Having lived in Neskowin for 13 years, I learned a lot about the Oregon Coast: Winter can be the best time of year for several reasons. The weather changes quickly, it can be warm and sunny one day, stormy the next. Either way is good! I have played golf in 65 degree weather on Christmas Day, or I have spent hours watching the high tides and howling wind from our warm and cozy living room. The winter coast temperatures are virtually always much warmer than inland, usually in the 50's and 60's. Fewer people, more quiet...consider.
Newly built in 2011, we have furnished this cozy but contemporary 900 sq ft 1 bedroom, 1 bath home as a pristine getaway. It is located 500 feet above the valley, with southern exposure. Three sides of windows and decks show off a view from many vantage points. It is likely the most elegant “tree house” you have ever seen. SUNSET MAGAZINE featured it as one of 3 BEST PLACES ON THE OREGON COAST in the "Call of the Oregon Coast" issue of September 2012. (Please note that the second bedroom has a futon only, and our maximum is 2 guests. The futon is not particularly comfortable! But it is a lovely room with a small desk to work on.)
Best features: The cabin is sited to take advantage of the incredible views and feeling of peace. In the Spring and Fall deer and elk will be wandering the property (patiently watch during the early morning or evening hours.) The deep bathtub has a skylight to see the stars, and two large windows with a forest view. Total relaxation... The cabin was custom designed so that every room has a full view of this stunning part of the Oregon coast.
One large bedroom with a wonderful ocean view, Queen Temperpedic-style mattress, a tub with hand-held shower head with forest views. The TV (with many DVDs to choose from) is set up to watch cozily from the bed. THE BEDROOM AND BATH ARE ON THE SECOND FLOOR. Contemporary minimal style, large windows on three sides of the cabin, full kitchen, deck.... Check the reviews! Our guests love this cabin. There is also a small office where you can write or read.
The modern kitchen has brand new stainless appliances, views as you cook, and lots of dishes, pots/pans, and an electric coffee maker. (Please note that there is no microwave. And we do not have WiFi in the cabin, although the 3G connection is excellent. And Wifi is easily accessible at the café in Neskowin.)
The cabin sits high above a large, forested valley, with just a few other homes It is just one mile north of the lovely, small beach village of Neskowin, along the north/central Oregon Coast, a 2-hour drive from Portland. NOTE: There are only a handful of residents in this area, and it is a ONE-LANE GRAVEL ROAD FOR ONE MILE. Please consider if this sounds too remote for you...it is one mile from HWY 101, and another one mile to the village of Neskowin. www.greenflashcabin.com
Sunset Magazine recommended our cabin as one of three best places to stay along the gorgeous Oregon Coast, in the September 2012 edition, 'The Call of the Oregon Coast.'
TWO-PERSON MAXIMUM. NO DOGS ALLOWED.
Keep in mind that the location of this cabin is one mile east of Hwy 101, sitting up high along a valley that has few residents. It has a one-lane gravel road that cannot be found by GPS. (I have explicit directions, of course!) If this sounds too remote for you, then you may want to be closer in to town. But if it sounds appealing, it is honestly just fantastic. It is two miles to the beach.
This is a retreat destination, without the ammenities of a microwave, WiFi or cable TV (although 3G access is very good). There is a TV for watching our large collection of DVD movies. The claw foot soaking tub with a side-mounted faucet has a flexible head for 'showering' while in the tub, but does NOT have a stand-up shower head or surround. We have a brand new electric range with oven. In addition, there is a dishwasher, electric coffee maker and toaster, plus plenty of dishes. While in the kitchen you are surrounded by views of miles of unspoiled wilderness.
The 'Green Flash' is an atmospheric phenomenon that, when the conditions are just right, you will actually see a very bright lime green flash - similar to a light bulb flash - right at the moment when the sun drops below the horizon at sunset. I have seen this only once during my many years at the coast. It was truly memorable...
Just a 5-minute drive to the village of Neskowin, you’ll be far from the beach shops and boardwalks of larger beach towns. In Neskowin you will find one golf course, one grocery store, one art gallery and one wonderful café – the only commercial businesses. Enjoy 7 miles of gorgeous beach walking, evening bonfires, surfing, skim boarding and tide pool exploring. Within a beautiful 10-mile drive is Pacific City, where there are numerous fun shops, galleries, restaurants, a surf shop, another wide and walkable beach, plus the tide pools and hiking of unique Cape Kiwanda.
This beautiful part of the north/central Oregon Coast is just a two-hour drive southwest of Portland, between Lincoln City and Pacific City, north of Cascade Head. There are many hikes, shops and restaurants within a ten mile drive - either north to Pacific City or south to Lincoln City. This is a wonderful, scenic part of the Oregon Coast, with access to incredible headland hiking and long sandy beaches. You can walk for miles.
Check out Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, a most wonderful facility located along the south side of Cascade Head. They offer a wide array of classes and workshops all summer. (about a 7- mile drive)

After living in Neskowin for 13 years, I moved to Portland with my family in 1991. I am a silversmith who handcrafts jewelry, and also manages several vacation rentals in addition to my own. I love my job, gardening, kayaking, biking, hiking, spending time with my dog, and taking off for a few days at the coast.

Neskowin is a small, special place that has changed little in the 30 years since I lived in and now visit the area. It is quaint, friendly, relaxed, has headlands, a miles-long beach, eagles, majestic forests, hiking trails....everything you would want in a coastal village.
Time, quiet, privacy, beauty, nature, peace, sunsets, tidepools, elk, deer, eagles, reading on the deck, dozing on the couch, walking on the beach. Time, quiet, privacy.
It is a 5-minute drive to the beach and village where there is one cafe, one small store, and access to the beach. Keep your eyes peeled for seals in the surf and sand dollars on the beach. I even found a whale vertebrae in the sand a few years ago!
A beautiful cabin in an extremely peaceful location surrounded by nature. The house is clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to just settle in and relax for a few days.
My husband and I wanted to stay on the coast for our honeymoon and the Green flash cabin was absolutely perfect! It was nice and private which we wanted over a hotel, close to any city we wanted to explore and we loved having a kitchen to cook in for the week. It was also super easy to get to with her clear directions. Beautiful views and a wonderfully cozy cabin made for the best honeymoon!
This was our second visit to the Green Flash Cabin and it was just as wonderful as we remembered. The location up a windy, forested gravel road is very "Oregon". We enjoyed watching the storm clouds drift in from the ocean and it was very cozy listening to the rain and wind. The cabin itself is spotlessly clean. We met the co-owner upon our arrival (we were a bit early since we were getting anxious about the weather/daylight) and he was kind and welcoming. Although the Oregon coast isn't known for being a great destination in December, we feel like it's the perfect time to come to the Green Flash Cabin. We were happy to hike at nearby Hart's Cove which is one of our favorite places on the coast. We appreciated the many nice touches in the cabin and are grateful to have had the opportunity to stay someplace so special. Thank you!
My husband & I recently spent our honey moon at the green flash cabin, it was nothing short of perfect! It was the perfect relaxing getaway that we needed after planning a wedding! Highly recommend!
Not good! We decided to get away for a big birthday and anniversary. We booked Green Flash cabin after hearing it was featured in Sunset magazine. The View was fabulous but that was the only thing . Pretty rustic. It contained only a bathtub which my husband did not fit in so he could not shower or take a bath. The bathroom was connected to the bedroom and only had a big wooden sliding door with gaps so no privacy (not romantic at all) the towels smelled really bad, bed did not feel fresh and very uncomfortable I got spider bites while sleeping. Oh also the furniture was very dirty. We left asap. However the owner said that she is under no obligation to refund us because it is peak season. Very disappointed. Huge waste of savings.
This cabin is situated in a great location to get away from it all. The wrap around deck allows for views of the ocean and and the foothills to the east. You can sit on the deck and veg for hours. The cabin has a simple contemporary feel with windows that wrap around allowing for an 180 degree view from the inside. You become aware of the peace and quiet of the property, the closest neighbor is about 200 yds away and I never heard them. The property is about a mile from Neskowin - a cute little beach town with access to Neskowin beach and hiking trails. If you're looking for a place that offers peace and quiet, is surrounded by nature, and has a simple contemporary feel I can't think of a better place.
Green Flash Cabin is a nice, secluded cabin on a mountainside in lovely Neskowin. The forest and ocean views are exceptional. Kitchen and laundry room provided all the tools necessary for a week-long retreat. Seating on the deck is perfect for enjoying a meal (or just a cup of coffee) with the best view in town. Owners were readily accessible and very helpful. Truck/SUV recommended for accessing the cabin, but not necessary.
Watch the sun set with an evening beach fire. Elk, deer and many birds surround the cabin area at different times. Many classes and workshops are available at Sitka Center for Art and Ecology. Shopping and movies will be in Pacific City or Lincoln City - each a ten-mile drive.
