Peaceful Location near Minho River, Golf and Coast/beaches, 5 Mins to Spain.

The Villa is in the most Northern part of Portugal, Minho, which is hilly and beautifully green. A place to get away from stressful life, to relax and regain energy. Luxury and cosy interiors with central heating and spacious exterior areas with high solar exposure make the villa a perfect place for holidays all year round. The peaceful romantic gardens have many secret corners and in the orchard you can find organic fruit: apples, lemons, pears, cherries, orange, nuts etc. The pool garden relaxation area is secure and private with furniture, a parasol and BBQ. The patio runs the length of the building and the parking area is large enough for 4 cars and is secure behind high steel gates (remote controlled). The local towns such as Vila Nova de Cerveira, Valença (fortified town), Caminha and Ponte de Lima are picturesque and interesting. Just a few minutes you can go from the river to coast, green countryside to historical towns, golf to surfing and to enjoy with nice food and wine.

A drive into Spain for shopping and sighseeing and 'tapas' is very easy from the new bridge at Vila Nova de Cerveira. Porto, Vigo and Viana do Castelo offers some astonishing shopping malls with all the international brands you could hope for under one roof. Of course Porto (1 hour away) is the second capital of Portugal that is famous for its wines, culture and historic sites. Nightlife is very good at beach places such as Caminha and Baiona, during summer. During the year Vigo (30 min away) as a vibrant nightlife.

Getting to Vila Mea: flying to Porto is the easiest way to get to Vila Nova de Cerveira. It will be necessary to have a car. We will provide detailed directions from Porto airport to the doorstep of the Villa. It takes about an hour to drive along an almost empty motorway with some spectacular views.

BA, TAP, Easyjet & Ryanair fly to Porto airport. Ryanair also fly to Santiago de Compostela in Spain which is the same distance from Vila Nova de Cerveira (on motorway). Bilbao and Santander ferry ports are 7hrs drive to the North.

Villa Mea is a huge house in a rural location in Vila Nova de Cerveira. The accommodation is immaculate and looks out onto the pool by floor-to-ceiling windows. Surronding the pool there is a beautiful garden aera with barbecue that are hidden from outsiders by high walls. The villa accommodates two families with ease. One PlayStation, games, DVDs will keep the children happy when they are not splashing in the pool, running in the gardens or exploring the orchard. This is a green and hilly region of the yet-unspoilt Portugal. It is quiet but it has plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes nearby. Sightseeing walks from the house in the green countryside and river are available from the property.

What a lovely holiday we have had! The villa was everything we had hoped for! so many places to visit close by and we had a swim (or 2!) in the pool every day. Really good value for money. Thank you. Hopefully we may be able to come again one day.

Private, Comfortable and Convenient

Although our flight was delayed by 3 hours we were immediately put at ease by our host and the key pick up was made simple for us even though it was quite late.

The house is a time capsule with beautiful old furniture and rooms combined with more modern kitchen and bathroom.

The garden to this house is the Jewel in the Crown. Mature, quiet and well tended, it is the perfect place to relax and do nothing. The garden is completed by a very generous sized pool and a spacious outdoor cooking area. Every day we sat in the garden , we commented on it's tranquility and beauty.

While only one room had air conditioning and the WiFi was patchy, these were minor inconveniences and did not detract from the holiday.

I would highly recommend this house and this host.

A lovely villa, but a struggle out of season

It is indeed a lovely house. It is very well furnished and equipped. It is in a good location, within easy reach of spectacular local scenery, many interesting places to visit (eg. the fortress in Valenca, Ponte de Lima, Porto), and good value food and shopping on both sides of the border. In the summer, I have little doubt that it would be a thoroughly splendid experience.

However, staying there out of season (end of March) there were issues. We were unlucky with the weather, it is true - we had gales, driving rain and cold, with the temperature around 5 degrees below average. Even given this, though, we feel that it was reasonable to expect more. The house was colder inside than out when we got there - we suspected it had been empty all winter. The heating (which was mentioned on the house details) was not switched on and there was an inadequate supply of hot water. We flagged up that the house was too cold, which did result in a quick email response, encouraging us to use electric heaters. However, a current of more than 15 amps (3.5kW) would result in the power supply to the house tripping off. So we couldn't have the heaters on and cook anything, or put the kettle on. (It was also necessary to ring the owner to find out how to reset the power supply - it's behind the picture in the dining room.) Another minor thing - the grill pan was also filthy, so the first time we used the oven, the kitchen filled with smoke. And the gates to the drive were a bit psychotic, or at least could have done with more explanation.

Doubtless it is expensive to keep the house warm when it is largely unoccupied over the winter, but the house is showing signs of damp inside, so doing so would protect the house. In any case, the house was so cold that we came close to abandoning the stay there and decamping to a hotel.

Sorry if this sounds negative! As I said to start with, it would have been amazing in the summer.

Great Villa Great Location

We loved the villa and the pool . The property is very accurately described, having excellent facilities with plenty of space and numerous eating places ,inside or out , with or without candelabras . The Villa is clean and well looked after as is the pool and garden.

We enjoyed table tennis in the garage , picking peaches in the garden and swimming of course followed by a warm shower in the garden room.

The Location is great as it is quiet but within reach of numerous sights and beaches. Supermarkets are within 10 minutes (Lidl - in Valenca or across into Spain, and Pingo Doce just past Vila Nova de Cerveira) .

Sightseeing we visited Valenca old town, the River Minha at the nearby river park area, Caminha, Ponte de Lima where you park near the river and can go across the bridge to the gardens as well as visiting the town, Braga, Bom Jesus , Porto and even down to Aveiro.. Also worth visiting in Spain are Pontevedra and the lovely fishing village of Combarro).

Beaches can be rocky but most we found were sandy. We sunbathed and ventured into the sea at nearby Moledo beach, Povoa de Varzim and numerous beaches between the two.

The local restaurant Braseirao do Minho at Hotel Minho was within walking distance and was excellent for both food and friendly service. Saturday night dancing with both Portuguese and Spanish locals was very entertaining.

Our age group ranged from 60 to 75 and we all thoroughly enjoyed our holiday.

There are so many places that we would still like to visit in the area both in Portugal and across into Spain . Hence we're certain we will be returning to both the area and the Villla .

Great architecture, beaches , scenery and friendly helpful people everywhere we went.

Beautiful villa in the Minho region

We had a wonderful stay at this lovely Villa in Minho! It was the perfect base for exploring the region. With plenty of space to spread out and relax and a beautiful outdoor area with pool it was great to come home to after a day out sightseeing. Fast, reliable wifi was a definite plus. The tips and information provided by Felipe were a great help. Also take the time to chat with some locals, they are super friendly and helpful! We drove to many nearby villages; one of our favorites was Pont de Lima. We also did an easy day trip to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. A car is definitely a must to stay here and explore the area. You won't be disappointed spending your vacation here!

Lovely villa and area

A beautiful villa perfectly situated to explore Northern Portugal. The house was great - perfect for our needs, with the added bonus of the private swimming pool and table tennis table which were put to good use. Four double bedrooms; a cot; two bathrooms; well equipped kitchen including dishwasher; useful utility room including washing machine, dryer and ironing facilities; spacious, bright and comfortable lounge area; more formal dining and lounge room; large, secure and well-maintained garden to both the front and rear of the house; brilliant barbeque area and outdoor seating; large driveway and double garage. The property was clean and well maintained throughout, and the owner was willing to help and quick to respond to queries. Excellent customer service and a highly recommended landlord. It was particularly useful to have a good internet wifi connection as well. We enjoyed exploring the Geres National Park, local villages and towns, nearby beaches along the coast and the Minho river which was an easy walk from the house. There is a lot to seeing the region, although a car is recommended to travel around. Excellent local bakery and supermarkets were very convenient. All in all it was a very enjoyable fortnight in a very convenient house.

Excellent villa, thoroughly recommended.

I stayed here for an extended period during autumn 2013. I cannot praise the villa too highly. There are 4 large bedrooms all with double beds and plenty of wardrobes and drawers, 1 also has a cot. There are 2 full bathrooms (1 with Jacuzzi) plus one by the pool. There is a very large lounge with 2 walls which are completely glass. This gives a very bright room a wonderful outlook to the pool and gardens. There is a formal dining room which also has a lounge area with 2 leather settees. The main entrance is very impressive with fine furnishings. Actually the whole house is filled with high quality furnishings which would grace any home. There are 2 kitchens 1 of which is more like a large utility room, the Aga type cooker is not in use. It has however an additional dishwasher, washing machine, tumble drier and ironing facilities etc. The main kitchen is modern, bright and well fitted out with most things including a dishwasher. There are tables and chairs in all the downstairs rooms in addition to the formal dining room. Outside, via the electric gates, is parking for innumerable cars. The gardens are nice and completely secure. There is lots of space, covered walkways, benches, outside dining table and, of course, poolside loungers. The pool is large, clean and well maintained, as is the garden itself. There is a double garage which has a table tennis table in it. There is also a large covered barbeque area where the barbeque is built in with a chimney for all weather barbies. Vila Mea is a beautiful village with a mix of prestigious properties and some more original rural types. The small population is also a mix of professionals and people living by means of subsistence farming. All make you feel very welcome and are incredibly friendly. Few speak English so it is wise to have some stock phrases prepared unless you speak Portuguese, Spanish or, quite a few, speak French. There are a couple of restaurants within walking distance that are good and reasonably priced. The Rio Minho 4* hotel is also within walking distance and has a cafe/bar and also an upmarket restaurant. The restaurant has a daily lunch special of 3 courses, coffee, a half bottle of wine for 8 euros (discount for children). There is a combined cafe/bar/shop in the village which is a delight. All the locals use it in the traditional Portuguese way of treating it as meeting place - I love the place. You are within easy driving of historical towns such as P D Lima, Valenca. I'm coming back.

The villa is a few minutes by car from Vila Nova de Cerveira which is a very nice village, internationally know by the bienal arts exposition, the historic centre and wonderful outdoor Saturday market. Valença (5 min) which is a historic market town with impressive medieval walls and Caminha with its cobbled streets, bars, cafes and restaurants is 20 min away. Viana do Castelo (30 min) and Ponte de Lima (15 min) are the largest local towns and both offer historical interest. Porto and Santiago de Compostela are 1 hour away by motorway. The beautiful Minho river, at walking distance from the property, is perfect for picnics and swimming. 20 minutes away by car you will find the coast which has miles of beaches with golden sand. Just by crossing the international bridge at Vila Nova de Cerveira (5 min) you will be in Spain with a whole different culture to explore. It is a quiet area but has plenty of restaurants and bars nearby.

Golf: One of the best 18 hole golf courses in North Portugal is about 15 min away in Ponte De Lima.
