This was a great place to stay and be in the middle of everything. Literally step out the door and you find yourself in the midst of activity. My wife and I were able to walk to many of the attractions in Paris but also had access to the metro a block away.

The unit itself had everything we needed for our stay and was just right for two people. Previous posts mentioned narrow stairs up to the unit which were true. Fortunately we only had carry on luggage making it ok. The kitchen had everything needed for a short stay. If planning to do some light cooking there is a grocery store just down the block for any items needed. Of course you will be passing up several restaurants which may make you think twice about cooking at all. In most cases we made breakfast and coffee to start our day. One thing to keep in mind is that there isn't an oven if you are thinking about making a quiche or bigger meals. Again there are literally restaurants the second you take your first step out of the building. To the right you can have Italian or to the left get a crepe.

The bottom line was the place was great and its location awesome!

Best location EVER

  • 5 of 5

This was our second trip to Paris. We stayed in the Marais last time. The location of this place is SO much more convenient (for touring, metro-ing shopping, Notre Dame-ing) and yet quiet and homey. We survived the 80F heat by opening the windows for some cross ventilation and the location of the apartment at the back of the building made sleeping with the windows open not too loud once the restaurants downstairs got their dishes done.

We loved the creperie downstairs (Tevi and family) and the rachlette bistro. There is a grocery store at the end of the street and there is the Hotel D'Cluny on the next block. We heard the lovely bells of Notre Dame on Ascension Day. We were able to metro to anywhere by turning either left or right. It was a lovely place to stay and I hope we get to come back. Merci beaucoup!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you, and we're glad you enjoyed your stay! This is our favorite part of Paris as well. There used to be a pizza place downstairs that was lovely, but, alas they closed. Plenty of choices still. :-)

Just as good the second time around...

  • 5 of 5

We loved it the first time, and were just as happy the second. The studio itself is spacious and well equipped. We enjoy some of its features, which after many Paris rentals, we find special: the large and separate kitchen with a convenient pass-through, an easy to use washing machine, a clothes rack with clothes pins, and lots of amenities which we don't use, like TV and phone. The heading for this studio is "location, location, location," and that couldn't be more accurate: you are in the middle of a lively, safe, semi-pedestrian tourist street loaded with restaurants and stores, 1 block from the metro, and within walking distance of practically everything you wish to see. Be prepared to enter into an old building, though, with narrow spiral stairs, and a very creative way of updating the plumbing facilities: the toilet/sink is one step down from the shower: both are in the hallway. Bring a night lite because there are several steps leading up into the kitchen/bedroom. Most of all, have fun - you are right smack in the middle if the most beautiful city in the world.

Great return visit

  • 4 of 5

This was ous second stay (initial one in 2008, look for review) and had a great time, despite the cool and wet spring weather. It felt like coming home to an old friend! Nice to have some basic supplies in stock in the kitchen, and cooking your own meals with supplies from the nearby farmers' markets makes eating in Paris much more affordable! Loved being able to hear the Easter bells from Notre Dame!

What an enchanting week!

  • 5 of 5

We had never been to Paris before, and wished to have an apt. instead of a hotel as my husband has so many food allergies. The apt. was way more spacious than we expected. It was easy to cook for the 2 of us there and having a clothes washer was great. We always travel with a nightlight for washrooms, so we aren't falling. This was particularly useful here as the washroom was creatively put in on a different level. The narrow stairs up scared us the first time, but soon became a new norm and they added to the wonderful character of the building. The area was so perfect for 1st timers as we walked for miles with always architectural eye-candy flooding over us. We felt safe out on the streets even late at night as always lots of tourists about and the business owners soon got to recognize you and not try to tempt you in to their restaurants. When we wished to go farther afield, like Versailles, it was so easy to jump on public transportation. Jean Claude was so welcoming and thorough, and made it very easy for our early exit also. If we ever get back to Paris, ahhh! [too many places to see, too little time left, too little vacation funds] we would be very happy to stay here again.

Really convenient location

  • 4 of 5

This location is extremely convenient--you can walk to a lot of the sites, and the St. Michel metro/RER station is extremely close. (You can take the RER from here directly to Versailles or the Eiffel Tower.) The apt is roomier than most studios, with a separate kitchen. The street is super-touristy and crowded, but the apt. is quiet--plus, if you're hungry at midnight, it's easy to step outside the door and get a crepe or some other low-cost food. (We liked the pizza place on the corner of St. Severin and Rue de la Harpe--that was a cut above some of the restaurants in the vicinity.) Although you don't get street noise, you do hear preschool recess in the courtyard in the late morning (only a problem if you want to sleep late). The kitchen is convenient and well-equipped. The place was not super-clean in general, but I've mentioned this to the owner and he's very responsive to feedback. This apt. is not well-suited for anyone who has trouble with balance or stairs--you have to be extra careful on the narrow, spiral, uneven stairs, and there are also a couple steps down to the bathroom--something to be careful of in the night! Furnishings are spartan, but do the job, and I found the futon mattress plenty comfortable. Finally, if you're sensitive to fragrance or simply have a nose that works the way it should, do not use the laundry detergent pouches under any condition--you'll never, ever get the odor out! Really, it's bad. Two bottles of Febreze and four washings later, we're getting to where the clothes don't smell from several feet away, but my suitcase may never be the same. We left behind some liquid detergent--we couldn't find unscented, but it's less scented and you can control your portion. I'd use only half the recommended minimum amount--the washer is small!
