Set in 5 acres of communal gardens, the castle is a tranquil and peaceful place to stay.
The living area, formerly the castle ballroom, has a high ceiling and large windows, so is spacious and full of natural light. It is beautifully furnished to a high standard with wooden floors and large leather sofas. Indoor entertainment includes a 50' plasma tv and hi-fi with surround sound. The spacious bathroom also on this floor, has a stand alone bath and separate shower.
Dollarbeg Castle is ideally situated for both playing/watching golf and sightseeing. Gleneagles is only 15 - 20 mins away and visitors are welcome at Dollar Golf Club, only a few minute's drive away. Stirling is only 20 mins by car with other amazing castles such as Edinburgh, Scone, Blair and Glamis (childhood home of the Queen Mother) within an hour's drive.
The apartment is finished to a remarkable standard. So much space. The main drawing room is huge, kitchen doesn't just have everything, it has every little thing you could want, to the last detail in such quality and taste. Bedrooms are lovely, main bedroom is stunning when you open the curtains to look out over the gardens and the hills in the background. Bathrooms are beautiful, with nice touches and above all, everything was immaculate. I could go on for a while, but as we were leaving my wife said: Its like Gleneagles, but so much nicer. Thanks for a great stay
My husband and I, along with another couple, have recently returned from a fabulous holiday in the United Kingdom. Besides the kindness and friendliness of the Scottish people and the outstanding sights and scenery, the ballroom apartment of Dollarbeg Castle was definitely a highlight! We knew from our first communications with Sue, our warm welcome from Christine and the top quality refurbishment of the ballroom apartment, that we had found very special accommodations. Coming from a land with very few castles to a country with so many, and then to actually stay in one, was a dream! I can't add much more to the existing comments other than to say it was a privilege to have been able to share this beautiful holiday home with the owner. Thank you! (One note, if you are two couples travelling together...the master bedroom is outstanding, to say the least. Since we all wanted the experience of staying in such luxury, we took our bedding and swapped rooms halfway through the week. You will understand when you see it!)
We had a wonderful stay in the ballroom apartment. The pictures looked beautiful but they don’t do the castle justice. It has everything you need for a comfortable vacation home.
The rental process went very smoothly and Christine met us and made us feel very welcomed and at “home”. This was a very quiet/peaceful location but also a great home base to visit many areas in Scotland.
We would love to come back again!
Our stay in Dollarbeg was truly an experience – it must be by far the largest and most beautiful apartment we have ever stayed in. Both from the outside as well as from the inside the castle and apartment was truly wonderful. Very beautifully furnished, with all amenities one could wish and a very large and very clean apartment. We were greeted by Christine, who had a very nice welcome gift for us.
The location of the apartment is very well suited for exploring the southern part of Scotland, including Edinburgh (1 hr drive), St Andrews (1 hr drive) and the Trossachs (1.5 hrs drive), all very worthwhile trips. Alloa has a lot of large supermarkets and is only 15 minutes away.
Internet connection was easy, but the internet speed was slow. It works for emails and some browsing, but larger files or streaming was not possible. In general cell phone reception in the area was good.
As it was cold in Scotland we wanted to turn on the heating – which did not work. As it was a Saturday, there were no repair servicemen available to fix it. Christine was very helpful by providing us some electric radiators but in the end it took till Tuesday (day 4 of our stay) before the heating worked – and fortunately the weather had turned as well so that at that time it was no longer needed.
If we would come back to this area we would certainly stay here again
We chose this rental based on the photos in the listing and the response from the management. The castle is beautiful and the management is very responsive. Everything was as advertised. When we arrived we were warmly greeted by the local representative and given the "tour" of the apartment. As soon as we were alone we all looked at each other in disbelief. It was absoutely one of the highlights of the trip just staying at the apartment. The setting is very nice and quiet - really quiet, the apartment is very well appointed and extremely tidy. There is a wonderful entertainment center with movies in the cabinet and CDs for the stereo. WiFi is free and relatively easy to connect to (the key for wireless is under the router). The kitchen very good with all the appliances and utensils / plates / glasses you'll need. Dollar is just down the road for a great meal (Campbell Castle Hotel) and the co-op will have everything you need to stock up for your stay. Our kids loved the place and complained we couldn't spend more time "hanging out". It's in a great spot for day trips around Scotland. Don't miss this opportunity to spoil yourself in this truly unique location; you won't be disappointed.
Our week long stay in the Ballroom Apartment of Dollarbeg Castle was everything we hoped for and more. The castle is in a beautiful, quiet country setting, yet conveniently located to the sights of Scotland including St. Andrews, Edinburgh, Loch Lomond, Loch Ness, the Falkirk Wheel, and Stirling. It is a short and lovely walk into the village of Dollar. From the beginning communication was easy and frequent. Upon our arrival we received a warm welcome, which included a beautiful welcome basket. The apartment is beautifully and fully furnished. It is both spacious and comfortable and comes with every amenity. We will definitely plan to return to Dollarbeg Castle on our next trip to Scotland.
