About john talley

We are John and Niki Talley. I am one of Frank Talley’s grandsons. Frank and his wife, Arline, purchased the property in 1961. I have spent most summers of my 45 year life on the Ranch. I am an avid fly fisherman and fly tier and was a Wisconsin DNR Angling Instructor for 2 years. I also am a 2 handicap on the golf course so if there is any instruction needed on our little course, or on the river, I am your guy. Niki has 6 years managing large multimillion dollar accounts in the outdoors industry. She has spent time in wilderness survival programs for youth teaching outdoor survival skills to troubled teens while obtaining skills herself. She is always willing to share (ask her to teach you the bow-drill fire starter while you’re here!) We both love backpacking, with many trips in the Tetons, Wind Rivers, Uintas, and of course in the Bitterroot Mountain ranges. In short we love the outdoors and are exited to share this great part of the country with you!

The best place in Montana!!

  • 5 of 5

This was the fourth time my family and I have gone to the ranch, and every time we have come home with more amazing memories. Our family has a range of grandchildren from 21-1 and each and every child and adult is able to fill every moment of every day with experiences and fun adventures. The meals out on the beautiful patio with the wonderful view of mountains and endless beauty, and every day packed with tennis, golf, fishing, games on the lawn, the rope swing into the pond, boat races down the little pickett creek and just exploring the unbelievable beauty of the surrounding mountains and lakes have made this vacation spot the favorite of my entire family. The accommodations are perfect for a large family and the people there on the ranch are always available and happy to help out in any way needed. If you want a family get away from all the things that keep us too busy to enjoy each other along with the beautiful gifts of nature, this ranch is the best place in the world to come!!

Best of Montana

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at the Piquett Creek Ranch in early August 2016. The property is very private and beautiful . We played tennis and golf on the private facilities and went fly fishing every day along a great private stretch of the Bitterroot River . Hiking was excellent . The Tully family were very hospitable and helpful. The house is large, comfortable and fully equipped . This is a great Montana ranch vacation which we highly recommend.

Great Get Away

Could not have been better. The houses were everything as advertised and more. We had 26 people comfortably between the two houses. Golfing, tennis, fishing, floating all very convenient. Best of all a great place to just relax. We have booked again!

Incredible Montana Experience

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Piquett Creek Ranch last summer and it was the best vacation our family has ever had. The ranch offers something for everyone: fishing, golf, tennis, rafting. The facilities are first-rate, and the location is amazing. Would recommend it for anyone looking to experience all that Montana has to offer.

Absolutely Idyllic!

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family of 17 people stayed in this vacation rental in August a few years ago for a family reunion, a treat from my mother-in-law. We found it on the internet. We couldn't have made a better choice. Family members from Minnesota, Idaho, California, and Washington all met at the Piquett Ranch. I cannot imagine a better view, a more idyllic setting, or a more magical place to be and relax. We rented the main house, and it's much larger than it appears in the photos. Seven bedrooms & seven bathrooms allowed all four adult couples to have their own bathroom & privacy, and that makes for a happy family. We had five boys (all first cousins) ages 5 - 15, and what a great time they had - tubing in the river, biking, fishing, swinging on the rope over the pond, playing tennis, basketball, golf, hiking and exploring. Bill, the ranch manager, led my 3 sisters-in-law and I on a horse ride early one morning and it was fabulous; we saw a large herd of elk. My brother-in-law went for a hike one day, and snapped a photo of a large moose. The horses are gorgeous and add to the beauty and ambiance. Each couple/family took turns preparing the meals each day. The kitchen is well equipped and there is plenty of seating for a very large family. We especially enjoyed sitting on the large patio, with the weather being absolutely perfect. One night a wind storm came through just as we finished our family dinner, and the electricity went out for a few hours. There were plenty of large candles in the house, and we enjoyed our night of candlelight, sitting around the large round table telling stories and laughing. After the storm, we laid out in the reclining lawn chairs and watched a beautiful meteor shower light up a huge Montana sky. (Did I mention that the famous Bitterroot River borders the property?) We made my mother-in-law a memory book of the trip, and I even made a CD with music with our hundreds of photos. It's truly a week we will all treasure for a lifetime. I wholeheartedly recommend this vacation home and ranch. You truly get a feeling that you are tucked away from all the problems of the world - no phone, no internet, no problem. Montana is truly "the last best place."

Aside from fishing the river and Piquett Creek, there is an acre+ stocked pond on the ranch. There is also a horseback riding insturction area at the barns. Becasue we are surrounded by national forest, there are plenty or roads and trails on which to ride. The tennis court is new; the golf course more for fun than for serious players. Perfect place for nountain biking on logging roads and mountain trails.
