Property type studio

About the property

Please read full description for info on resort fees.

Welcome to Princeville on the stunning North Shore of Kauai. Studio unit steps from restaurant, pool and a short walk or shuttle to beach. Room is air-conditioned, about 450 sq. ft., has a kitchenette with all the necessities, queen bed with new mattress , brand new & very comfortable queen sofa bed, and lanai with gorgeous emerald mountain views, and most of the time the waterfalls are running, creating amazing waterfall views. If you need more room for additional guests, the hotel room unit next door is available too (VRBO #965227).

Hanalei Bay Resort is a 22-acre resort, and many units require a long walk or shuttle to the front door from the parking lot and an up to a 3-story stair climb, but this unit is on the ground floor, and the front door is literally steps away from the parking lot (I counted 10 steps), and there are no stairs to climb.

Guests are entitled to amenities of the resort, which include:

Golf cart shuttle to beach

World famous tennis courts

Tennis lessons available for beginners to pros, children and adults, from our tennis pro from the renowned Peter Burwash International organization

Gorgeous lava rock waterfall pool with swim-up bar and hot tub

Kid’s area at pool with sandy beach and shallow water

Beach towels at the pool desk

Beach chairs, matts, coolers, umbrellas, surfboards, snorkel gear and kayaks for rent at pool desk

Strollers, cribs, high chairs also available for rent

Free Mai Tais on Mondays at pool at 3:00

Fitness Room with bike, treadmill, elliptical and weights.

Outdoor barbecue cooking area with stove

Hospitality Room with lounge area, TV and kitchen for guests to use after checking out to wait for flight ($25)

Free Parking

Housekeeping service is available

Laundry Room nearby

The reopening of Bali Hai Restaurant is planned soon

There is an $21 a day resort fee that will be collected once you check out, and a $25 check in fee.

Why Steve Thomassin chose Princeville

I have loved the island of Kauai since my first visit over 40 years ago. I had the pleasure of vacationing at Hanalei Bay Resort many times and found myself utterly captivated by the magnificent grounds and breathtaking views. It is a dream come true to now have my own place here. In all my travels throughout my life, nothing can match this ideal location. I look forward to sharing the beauty and wonder of this paradise with you. Its magic will hopefully touch your soul as it has for me--not just during your stay here, but long afterward in countless relived beautiful memories..

What makes this studio unique

My units have breathtaking views of magical mountains that often come to life with streaming waterfalls. The expanse of green grass and tropical foliage leading up to those mountain views is just delightful. From a practical point of view, as great as Hanalei Bay Resort is, most units require climbing one or two flights of stairs since there are no elevators. Also, most units are quite a distance from the parking lot. Both conditions can pose difficulties for older guests or people with injuries. My units are ground floor and right by the parking lot. You have no stairs at all to worry about. This is particularly nice when dealing with luggage or groceries. My units are also conveniently located near the front desk, the amazing tropical pool, and the world-class tennis courts. In spite of these conveniences, your view here makes you feel as you have the tropical plants and emerald mountains all to yourself. And if the outside temperatures and humidity should ever become uncomfortable for you, my units are among the very few with wonderful air conditioning. Speaking of comfort, I just installed 55 inch ultra HD television sets into both units for your viewing pleasure when you are not outside enjoying all the sites. Full kitchenette for your convenience.

Beautiful resort- perfect Hawaiian retreat!

  • 5 of 5

The resort was more beautiful than we could have even prepared for-! We were able to get out and explore the island, and then return home to luxury at the end of the days.

Kauai was everything we hoped it would be and more!

Nice unit for a couple

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in this condo. It's perfect for 2 people. The views are great from the lanai. We ate breakfast out there every morning and would wake up to beautiful mountain views, rainbows, waterfalls, and best of all the birds. We are bird lovers so we really enjoyed being on the terrace level and having them come right up to us every morning (chickens w/baby chicks, roosters, nenes, and other small birds).

The resort itself is really beautiful. The have arguably the best sunset view on the whole island every night. The pool was great and the beach was nice too, but we were there after the flooding so we didn't really into the ocean much.

We did not go to the restaurant but only because we wanted to explore more authentic areas like nearby Hanalei.

Overall we loved our stay. The only critique would be that some things were a little bit unclear regarding the resort's involvement with this rental. For instance, they give you resort towels, but the condo is already stocked with towels. The resort left us an envelope to tip the daily housekeeper but there was no daily housekeeping.

Great value, gorgeous view, super convenient location

  • 5 of 5

I was confused when I just read the other bad reviews. The carpet was not dirty. There were plenty of towels and bedding, and we can go to the front desk, which was conveniently close by, and get more towels at anytime. The view from the lanai was stunning, it has rained the night before, so there were amazing gushing waterfalls on the mountains. Some people need to take off their sh*t-colored glasses and stop looking for things to complain about and look at what a beautiful place they are at. If you want luxury, go stay at the freakin St Regis. The location of the unit couldn't be better. The resort is huge and last time we had to walk pretty far from the parking lot to our unit and from our unit to the pool, but this unit is right next to the pool and parking lot, as well as the front desk and restaurant. The restaurant and bar are great! The pool was beautiful. I was happy with this unit and I will come back again.

Great location but not clean condo

  • 2 of 5

Great location for the price- but I’d never stay here again even if free. When we entered the unit, one of the burners on the stove was on. The unit smelled as if someone had been smoking it in for years and someone tried to cover up the smell....this smell was on the sheets and towels too (not sure if from burner being left on or not but we smelled it our entire stay). The carpet was so stained and disgusting we were afraid to take our shoes off. Even after confirming a week before arrival that there would be sheets and towels for a family of 4, there were no sheets or blankets for the pull out. We contacted the resort front desk and the unit owner- both of which blamed the other. The owner asked that we do his job in resolving the issues rather than him resolving it for us....he simply complained to us about how much he pays in fees to the resort (As a side note, we own rental condos ourselves in Mexico so we know the other side of owning a rental unit). So, we spent the first day of our vacation resolving issues that the resort and owner should have resolved before we arrived. Lesson learned...when even just one review on this unit states the unit is dated and not clean, believe them and stay elsewhere.

Owner's Response: We make sure the unit is stocked with sheets each time we visit, once a year. I communicated with this guest that we don't live on the island, but at last visit there were plenty of sheets, and if for some reason they were missing, a simple phone call to the front desk, and the housekeeping staff would bring some sheets right over, which is exactly what happened. As for the carpet, it is cleaned every 6 months since there are hundreds of people a year walking through this unit. It does get dirty, but we would never leave it uncleaned. It's sad, but we do get guests like this from time to time, who regardless of being on one of the most beautiful places on earth, will find something wrong. Nevertheless, we are willing to address their concerns in any way we could, as in this situation. All her problems were resolved immediately, except for the fact that it rained each day of their stay, which probably contributed to her discontent, but unfortunately we could not help with that and fortunately she could not blame us for that or she probably would.

The property looks just like pictures. It is a good value for the money.

The location is great!

Short walk to beautiful hot tub and pool, ice, laundry and bar. Little kitchen was great for small meals and leftovers.

View from patio of the mountains and falls.

Resort and staff are wonderful.
