About Ashley Hildreth
Michael and Glynis live in Vancouver, BC Canada. We have travelled the world but settled on the undiscovered area of Tulum and have had property in Mexico for over 5 years. We found Casa Playa Maya through friends who live on the Bay. Bill, the previous owner had been here for 18 years and wanted to retire and travel. We made Bill's dream come true and he made our dream come true. We instantly fell in love with the property, it's impossible to not LOVE the bay's beauty, but it needed some TLC and a bit of a facelift. We have the vision and skills to do major upgrades such as painting everything, new hotel quality beds, linens, towels, kitchen items & appliances, blinds and more. We built a lovely warm fresh water pool with a shallow section for the little ones. We added a 2nd Casita building with a studio and a 1 bedroom suites. Beautifully landscaped the gardens with colourful Mexican flora and brand new paving stone path. We completely renovated existing bathrooms and added some Mexican style colour and art. We just want to share this amazing part of the world with those who love a peaceful, relaxing holiday on one of the world’s most beautiful places on earth.

Why Ashley Hildreth chose Tulum
Soliman Bay is the best kept secret on the Riviera Maya. The Casa Playa Maya property is situated in the central location on Soliman Bay which is rock free with only soft, white sand beach. The beach is at your doorstep and largely undiscovered so the beach is never crowded. When you arrive, you will wonder how this beautiful bay and Casa Playa Maya remains so undiscovered. Soliman Bay is the hidden gem of Tulum. Just a few minutes north of Tulum center, it is exclusive and private. Entry to Soliman Bay is protected by our Security checkpoint staff. The bay is protected by the second largest coral reef in the world, we have the safest snorkelling, calm, warm water and abundant sea life.
What makes this Apartment unique
Casa Playa Maya is centrally located on Soliman Bay where there are no rocks on the beach, just pure sand. The location was hand picked long before it was developed to ensure its prime location. Largely undiscovered, many days you will find you have the bay to yourself. Because of the sandy bay, you can walk the length of it for great exercise. Our concierge service will help you make the most of your holiday by helping you book some amazing things to do near Casa Playa Maya. TULUM Tulum, fast becoming the “it” place to be on the Riviera. National Geographic named Tulum Beach 4th best beach in the world. Here you can find a selection of restaurants, and shops. Like any town, there will be banks, pharmacies and other useful things like car rental, a medical clinic, and convenience stores. TULUM RUINS The Mayan city of Tulum stands 130 km south and 700 years away of Cancun. But the contrast between the two can be measured in more than just distance and time. The Tulum Ruins are a perfect day trip for those who tire of idly lounging around the pool. What sets the site apart from other ruins in Mexico is both the fact that it is well preserved and it boasts its own, inviting beach. SIAN KAAN BIOSPHERE RESERVE A guided tour of a sublime area of natural beauty, Sian Ka'an is home to thousands of species of flora and fauna, which is why the region became a designated Biosphere Reserve in 1986. Tours available. XEL HA PARK What do you expect when you hear “world’s largest natural aquarium”? Well, it’s not Wet N Wild or Sea World, it’s Xel Ha. I think you could say it’s a snorkeller’s Mecca. If you want to spend the day with water-based activities and all inclusive food and drink this is the spot for you (great snorkeling, all you can eat buffet and bar, aquatic zip lines, jumps and rope games. JUNGLA MAYA Enter the world’s longest underground river of this Tulum excursion, explored and recommended by National Geographic.

This was our second year staying at Casa Playa Maya. We rented the larger 1st floor casita this year, so we had more room for my boyfriend's son, who slept on the pull-out couch. We were informed that the main house would be under renovation during our stay and given the option to cancel or stay at a lower rate. We opted to stay because of the wonderful experience we had last summer. We really lucked out too. Renovations hadn't started and we were the only occupants - we had the whole property to ourselves! Luis and Annabelle were extremely hospitable and welcoming, and Wendy was very quick to respond to my questions and request to check in early. Despite a little bit of sea grass, Soliman Bay was pristine and tranquil. We snorkeled everyday and took out the kayaks to explore the reefs in deeper water. Our 11-year old loved the pool too!
We rented a car this year, which gave us freedom to explore the towns of Tulum and Akumal - each is 10 min away. In Akumal Turtle Bay Cafe was our favorite breakfast spot, and their ice cream is out of this world! I craved the Dark Chocolate Habenero and Salted Caramel all year long! We love La Buena Vida for lunch, cocktails, and casual dinner on Half Moon Bay. Plus there are shops across from the restaurant with beautiful pottery and silver jewelry. If you're looking for something more upscale or special, I highly recommend Taverna Akumal - ask for Manny! We also had a fantastic dinner at Casa Maria in Tulum - our dinner was worth every one of the five stars! If you get the chance, check out Chamico's at the south end of Soliman Bay. It's as casual as you can get with seafood caught daily and grilled in an open fire pit on the beach. They offered massages on the beach this year, and I took full advantage of that opportunity! Ahhh-mazing!
If you are looking for water adventure - we spent a day at Xel-Ha. It was more crowded than we would have liked, but our 11-year old loved jumping off the rocks and going down the water slide. There's tons to do, and the price includes all meals, drinks, and snacks. There is also a dive center in Akumal...last year we took a snorkel tour to see the turtles. This year we took an Explore Scuba class, which included a 45-minute dive along the reef. It was terrifying at first, but the most extraordinary experience we've ever had.
We're hoping to convince our friends to bring their families next year, so we can all stay in the newly renovated house - the plans look awesome!!
Always a 5 star experience...
Can not beat the location, sun, snorkeling, paddle boarding, etc. Luis and Annabel are amazing hosts and very accommodating. Highly recommend. We don't stay anywhere else in Tulum. Thank you for another enjoyable stay. Sincerely, Rachel
Fantastic location on a gorgeous beach
The home was small but well supplied. Good for two people. We had three and it was a bit crowded. No TV, which was a good thing. Wi-Fi went out for a day or so while we were here. Beds and shower were very good. We could easily cook a meal with the kitchen facilities but ate out most meals. The beach was great. Kayaks and snorkels were supplied as were beach towels. Pool was ok but we didn’t use it with the sea right there. Luis and Annabel were very helpful. A little isolated but there were two good restaurants within walking distance, one a beach restaurant that got good reviews but we didn’t try. The other is more high end but excellent food and service. Overall, a very relaxing vacation with little stress and all the amenities we wanted.
Didn’t want to leave
We enjoyed this beautiful paradise for 9 days. We got out most mornings to snorkel around the bay. Loved having the equipment necessary which made it super convenient. We used the kayaks and paddle boards a lot too. Condo was comfortable for the 4 of us (myself, Husband and 2 young daughters). The girls slept on a pull out. The only down side was there isn’t anywhere to put you clothes. Just a tiny closet. We managed, but just something to note. We made breakfast and lunch in the kitchen and went into Tulum or down to Jashita Hotel (5-Star hotel) which is a 5 minute walk on the beach for dinner. Luis, the property host/caretaker, was awesome. Gave us great recommendations and always helped arrange transportation. He was truly a fabulous host. We enjoyed meeting him very much. Soliman Bay is gorgeous and was so peaceful and quiet. We practically had the entire beach to ourselves. We didn’t have any negative experience w sargassum until we walked closer to Tulum. There was a lot of sargassum down in Tulum and also in playa del Carmen when we spent a day there. We are happy we ended up in Soliman Bay and didn’t have to worry about the sargassum. This place was a great central location for many activities including: Tulum, Tulum ruins, Xel-Ha & many cenotes. We can’t wait to go back!
We enjoyed a 4 night stay at this property. Luis was very friendly & helpful. My only suggestion would be to book a stay on an upper level. We were on the ground floor and found it quite noisy in the morning & that it lacked privacy. Also, rent a car, it’s off the beaten path.
Relaxing stay on beautiful Soliman Bay
We spent 5 days at Casa Maya Playa. The condo was clean and stocked with useful kitchen items. We were just a few steps away from the beach and the small, but refreshing pool was just outside our back door. Luis and Anabel were gracious hosts. The beach was covered with sea grass the week we were there, but this did not stop us from enjoying the warm, clear water. We saw turtles and rays while snorkeling. We enjoyed the kayaks and paddleboards.
We visited Coba and a cenote. The drive into Tulum was less than 15 minutes.
Thank you for a lovely vacation in your beautiful location.
