|Minimum Stay||4 - 7 nights|
Our half-timbered, self-catering cottage, which we use regularly ourselves, is set on a gentle incline in its own half-acre field, bordered by our 2 acre forest. It's perfect for walks and cycling straight from the door. People who've stayed here say it's like a Hansel and Gretel cottage. It's at the end of a track, surrounded by valleys, trees and meadows as far as the eye can see - yet less than an hour from Rouen, Honfleur and the sea. Pont-Audemer, the 'Venice of the North', with its canals and medieval buildings, is just 10 miles away. And it's only 3 kilometres from the historic village of St-Georges-du-Vievre, which has shops, post office, bank and a bar. The cottage is small and simply furnished, with all the basic essentials. Bedlinen & towels, and cleaning before and after your stay are included in the rental price. The living room has a beamed ceiling and wood-burner. The shower-room/WC is on the ground floor. And up steep stairs, into the roof space, with beams and 2 windows, is the double bed . Outside is a patio with furniture and a forest view to die for. Sit here with a glass of wine and listen to the birds. Bliss.
Property was great, just a we imagined :-)
Lovely watching the cows coming down the hill in the mornings, feeding the horses in the neighbouring field and hearing owls calling at night.
Was really impressed with the kitchen facilities. Lots of pans, cutlery and a very clean oven.
Perfect for a peaceful break but if you want to explore the are lots of places to visit just a short car ride away.
Would definitely stay again, recommended.
Superb location. Some facilities could do with updating, particularly the shower cabinet. This is the first time I have had to go out on Sunday morning to buy a frying pan and a sieve to drain vegetables. No saucepan lids, four spatulas and no draining spoon!
if you are looking for a place to get away from it all,then this is the place for you, this rustic cottage has oodles of french charm, with all the necessary mod cons to have an enjoyable stay without the distractions of modern communication.
With only the sound of birds a heard of cattle and 2 adorable horses as neighbors it is in the ideal place if you are looking to escape the rat race. We had a lovely stay as it was like stepping back into the 1960's with the surrounding areas all having their own small shops and no rushing, it was as if everything was in slow motion, we would definitely be looking to stay here again in the coming year. .
This is a characterful Normandy cottage with bags of atmosphere. It feels like somebody's holiday home not a bland holiday let. It's isolated and quiet but not too far from shopping and interesting places to visit. The only reservation is that you need to be able-bodied to user the staircase / ladder which takes you up to the bedroom particularly if you're carrying luggage.
We Holidayed for two weeks in the charming rural Bakehouse, it was a completely relaxing experience ,and a cosy warm log burner was a bonus in the evenings. We really welcomed all the local information that was provided.
A holiday to remember. R&A Brown
lovely little gite in a secluded setting for those who love peace and quiet and wish to escape from the world! No TV, the outside world ceases to exist if you so desire! We had a peaceful week only interrupted by the odd owl, horse or cow sound. Bliss! Was a shame to have to go out exploring but Honfleur, Evreux, Pont Audemer and the surrounding locality is worth a visit. Highly recommended!
Our typical Normandy colombage cottage sits in splendid isolation at the end of a track, with a view across to the forest, a kilometre from the tiny hamlet of St-Benoist-des-Ombres. Unlike many holiday-lets, our rental charges are fully inclusive of cleaning and heating. It is one of only three properties in the valley known locally as 'La Vallee Perdue' because no one else knows it's there, it's so off the beaten track. It's 2 miles from the traditional village and food shops of St-Georges-du-Vievre, famous for being a Resistance stronghold during the 2nd World War. The nearest supermarkets are in BRIONNE (5 miles) and PONT-AUDEMER (10 Miles). But don't forget the open-air markets. ROUEN is less than an hour away, famous for its cathedral, painted so often by the Impressionist Monet, whose famous house and garden you can visit at GIVERNY. The ancient leisure port of HONFLEUR is a 50-minute drive away, with its attractive port and plethora of restaurants. Enjoy the sandy beaches of TROUVILLE, or have a flutter in the DEAUVILLE casino. Also within easy driving distance are several chateaux, museums, the PARC DE BRETONNE (including JUMIEGES), MONTFORT FOREST, the 'Cheese Trail' and the monastery you can visit at LE BEC HELLOUIN, one of the 'plus beaux villages de France'.
