Fantastic last minute short break

  • 5 of 5

We booked this at short notice for a short break for half term and we certainly weren't disappointed. We were greeted on arrival by Anne (and her beautiful dog Lara!), who showed us into the warm and fresh smelling property. It was much bigger and more modern looking than the photographs portray, but with a great amount of character.

Anne gave us directions for walks, food establishments and instructions on how to operate the stove, heating, etc then left us to explore the wonderful property. Knowing she was next door was reassuring in case there were any problems, but there weren't.

The location was great for walking the dog, accessing the motorways, visiting Stirling, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. Unfortunately we didn't have time to visit Edinburgh or Glasgow on this occasion, but both are a short drive away.

I'd certainly recommend this accommodation and hope to return with our 3 teenagers and border terrier for a longer stay in the future!

Quiet and spacious

  • 3 of 5

Quiet cottage with ample parking (we fitted 3 estate cars in the drive). House could have been a little cleaner (ongoing issue with ants!) - a bit tired around the edges and whilst not possible - another loo would have been even better. Would have been nice to have had at least some basics in the fridge when we arrived. (Just a half full packet of Aunt Bessie’s Yorkshire puds!) but Anne resolved this soon after we’d settled in. It was really quiet, very accessible and Anne was great in letting us do our own thing.

Best venue for excellent food (the only one we tried!) was Gabe’s Diner in Stirling. Few local stores for basics nearby.

Would def recommend Ochil Cottage for it’s proximity to Stirling/Bannockburn (we were there for a wedding in Stirling) but still sufficiently away from it all.

Cottage charm

  • 4 of 5

. We had a wonderful time at Ochil Cottage. Anne is a delightful and helpful host. She welcomed us and provided lots of information about the area. The cottage is spacious, charming and well equipped. Beautiful rural setting on the edge of Stirling. Location is perfect for touring the area. Would be challenging without a car. Wifi was free but even with recent upgrade it was a little hit and miss. Would give the cottage a 4.5. Highly recommended.

A lovely cottage and a delightful landlady

  • 5 of 5

We were met on arrival by Anne, who gave us a quick tour, then directed us to the Tartan Arms where we could get a bite to eat and a pint. There we were greeted by a friendly staff, and met several patrons who over the next ten days proved to be a marvellous resource and a wealth of historical knowledge. The comfortable and beautifully appointed accommodations and the generous citizens of the community made for the best holiday ever.
