|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
Sleeps 8 + cot, available all year for self catering. 3 double bedroom 3-storey luxury house with stunning views of Mt Coronata. Located in beautiful Tuscan medieval mountain village. Totally refurbished. 2 min walk to village delicatessen/shop and 2 bars in heart of village. 20 min drive to Bagni di Lucca for pool complex surrounded by woods, banks, restaurants, supermarkets, shops.
Our recently refurbished (by local artisans) Italian home is in the centre of this quintessential medieval village. We reckon some of the foundations date back some 1000 years. Chestnut beams and terracotta floors are juxtapositioned with fully modern facilities, this 3-storey house built into the side of the mountain is cool in summer and snug in winter (central heating throughout). In the summer find yourself lounging on 1 of the 2 balconies or on the spectacular terrace below. Or curl up in winter by one of the log fires. All bedrooms, kitchen and living room have stunning views of Mt Coronat.

'... interesting, warm, welcoming... lovely balconies with fantastic views.... interesting local community willing to welcome the visitor, with a fair amount of English spoken' Chris Marooney Summer 2006
We immediately fell in love with the magical setting of Montefegatesi surrounded by beautiful mountains. The villagers are incredibly welcoming and also speak English, which was a great help until we learnt some italian.
Fantastic views, cool in summer and cosy in winter. Beautiful chestnut beams in the main body of the house together with terracotta floors. Centrally heated and totally modernised bit in sympathy with the medieval feel of the house
We had a great time on our holiday and Montefegatesi was a nice way to finish our holiday. The people there are very friendly and many speak English. Our day trips to Pisa and the other places were great.
We had about five days that we just stayed in Monte and relaxed. Thank you for your home it had everything we needed. We also enjoyed the meal that was prepared for us on our arrival, we ate leftovers for two days.
Thanks again for sharing your home
Having seen pictures and heard about this amazing house in Montefegatesi from our son and his wife who had stayed here with their family on several occasions, we couldn't wait to see it for ourselves. We stayed here with friends for three nights in May and it was not nearly long enough!
We loved the old house with its modern facilities, comfortable beds and great showers, and enjoyed the very effective Stufa stove which we used on our first evening as it was cool and wet when we arrived. Next morning we awoke to a beautiful sunny day and enjoyed breakfast, and later lunch, on the balcony admiring the stunning views and listening to the bird-song; the only sound to interrupt the peaceful silence. The village itself was delightful with its narrow cobbled streets and panoramic views from the Dante monument at the highest point. After a day exploring some of the walks around the village we ate at Richard's pub in the square where we had delicious pasta and pizza. The following day we visited Lucca with its lovely medieval centre surrounded by the old city walls and on the way back had an excellent meal at Ristorante Del Sonno in Bagni di Lucca.
Our stay at Montefegatesi was wonderful and we would love to have spent longer enjoying the house, the walks and the relaxing, peaceful surroundings.
And thank you so much Alison for the very helpful directions and information you sent which helped us to get the most out of our short stay. We would love to come back and will be recommending your lovely house and Montefegatesi to our friends.
Well equipped, beautiful house well furnished in a good mixture of old and new, in the midst of a small village which cannot be accessed by car and hence is very silent. Place enough for 4 adults and 4 kids. Everything in place including dish washer, washing machine, barbecue, (TV and DVD if required, too) and well maintained. Good help from an English-speaking local support. Including sheets and towels which were changed after the first week. Views are as marvellous as they appear. Due to the 840m above sea climate is fantastic. Some nice walks around and particularly close to the Orrido di Botri, the deepest Tuscany canyon.
The only downside is that you have to drive roughly 12 km on a small and winding more or less one track road to reach the valley. So wanting to go to the coast line in Viareggio, go to Florence or even Lucca takes its time - if this had been a little less it would have been the 5th star. Still a recommendation.
We have been to many home rentals thruout the world and by far this was the very BEST. Spectacular village, spectacular views, total luxury home. Great assistance and interaction with owners and caretaker, would recommend this vacation home at 100%
My wife and I have stayed here on each of our three visits to Montefegatesi. The house has amazing views from three different balconies each on a different level. There is also a basket with a rope to lower picnics down to the bottom terrace. It is clean and well furnished and has everything needed to cook great meals. The beds are comfortable, the bathrooms have great showers and the linens and towels are clean and plentiful.
The town is surrounded by trails of all lengths and difficulty levels, making repeated trips here very rewarding as each time we find new challenges as well as visit our favorite places. Descriptions of all the trails are available in the house, as well as by email request. If you like walking in the woods, this is a marvelous place. We travel without a car, which is a little more challenging, but we check and double check our bus connections and getting here has worked fine. Once in Montefegatesi, Nicoletta's store has everything we need, fresh fruit, veggies, yogurt, meat, bread, pasta, wine and beer. There are two bars in town, and Richard's place serves what we consider to be the best pizza in the world.
The instructions given by the owner on how to find the house were very helpful as the sat. nav. gave up after a while. Once at the village (we arrived in the dark as we had come all the way from Strasbourg that day) we were charmed by the cobbled streets, the piazza and the feel of the place. The house itself was clean and comfortable and beautiful. The next day we woke to brilliant sunshine and walked onto the balcony from the sitting room to find the most breathtaking view imagineable. The valley was filled with house martins twittering and diving all around us, they landed on the kitchen widow sill too and we had areally close view of them. It was very exciting to find the tower with the spiral staircase leading to the garden area, and later we had our dinner there using the rope and basket to lower our food and drink down, marvellous fun. We thoroughly recommend the place.
The village of Montefegatesi is in a conservation area of outstanding natural beauty on the edge of the Orrido di Botri National Park (deepest gorge in Italy). Explore the extensive mountain path walks at a lower or higher level, have a picnic on the top of a bare mountain or under the shade of the chestnut trees.
Bagni di Lucca is a traditional spa town with a superb swimming pool complex surrounded by chestnut woods, plus bars, restaurants, shops etc.
Lucca is a delightful medieval walled city with fine architecture and many places of interest plus superb shops and restaurants. The Lucca festival in July 2008 featured Sheryl Crow (from E28) Alicia Keys (E35). Lucca is surrounded by the Lucca hills which are famous for their wine. Set within these hills are some superb historical country houses which are well worth visiting.
Pistoia, Barga, Carrara, Viareggio are all within easy reach of a day trip.
Florence is just one hour away.
Siena and San Gimignano are 1.5 hrs away
