Overview

About the property

Villa, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3.5 Baths (Sleeps 6-8)

Looking for that special vacation villa with all the ingredients for the ideal Caribbean holiday, away from it all? Then choose Villa Casona Palms. It is one of Costa Maya's newest secluded luxury properties with its private beach and all rooms facing the sea.

Enter the main house and step into the open great room that has all-round wooden latticed windows. You gaze immediately onto the palm beach and ocean and feel the cool breezes. Then step through double doors out onto an enormous covered terrace where you can dine or simply relax facing the ocean. Or, take a few steps to the covered BBQ area to cook the day’s catch ... and have a siesta in a hammock afterwards!

The villa has been beautifully furnished and decorated, striking a wonderful balance between rustic charm and modern eco-elegance. The master bedroom and guest casita (third bedroom) have king size beds, and there are two full size beds in the second bedroom. Each bedroom has its own balcony overlooking the ocean.

The villa is fully self-contained and services (cleaning, linens, bottled water, electricity, propane gas, internet, use of kayaks, etc.) are included in the rental rate.

The remote property has an exceptionally wide beach front (55 metres, 183 feet), lined with mature coconut -bearing palm trees. It offers great views and seclusion. The sea in front, protected by the coral reef 500 yards offshore, is always calm, affording safe swimming for all ages. You can swim out to the reef and snorkel and, if you are into scuba-diving, there are several dive centres in the nearby village of Mahahual.

Mahahual has a number of restaurants and souvenir shops, particularly busy on cruise-ship days, after which you might want to retire to your bit of tranquil paradise. This is a complete home that can be rented either as a 2-bedroom villa for 4-6 persons (2 on convertible couches), or with an additional double-bedroom casita. Be sure to view all the photos – they’ll give you a true impression of this idyllic property.

About Owner/Property Manager

Our villa is located on a secluded part of the coast, about 35 km. (35-40 minutes drive) north of Mahahual which, in turn, is about a 4 hour drive south of Cancun. For those wanting to get out and about while at the villa - highly recommended - renting a car is best. It is a very simple drive, mainly on the excellent highway 307, through Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Felipe Carillo Puerto and Limones. Because the villa is secluded, we recommend guests to stock up on groceries on the way. The local village has a number of food & beverage shops but, as an alternative, there is an F&B concierge service available. All these are described in the Guest Book that is available at the villa and mailed to you before you leave home.

What is there to do once you are at Casona Palms?

- Relax, sunbathe on our private beach!

- swim, snorkel or kayak in the calm sea;

- eat lobsters (in season) and delicious fish caught daily by fishermen along the coast;

- if you don’t feel like cooking, enjoy one of the many restaurants in Mahahual;

- scuba dive with one of the centers in Mahahual (35-40 minutes away);

- visit the many Mayan ruins in the area, some only 1 hour's drive away.

- explore the Sian Ka'an Biosphere coast up the road.

Why Owner/Property Manager chose Bacalar Municipality

After retiring, we looked worldwide for a truly idyllic location for a second home where we could get away from the often harsh European winters. It is within easy reach of North America and Europe. We chose this spot for its beauty, seclusion, tranquillity, ideal swimming waters, year-round warm weather and friendly community. We also wanted a plot of beachfront land on which to build our dream vacation house.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Michael,

We have had an incredible holiday here and will be recommending it wholeheartedly to anyone who asks. Your guest book has asked for comments and, while it is easy to nick pick little things for making life a bit easier when you compare to life styles at home or other holidays, the reality is that after 2 days or so you realise that you actually have everything you could really need for such a beautiful location and all you need to do is step back, breathe in the air, look at the view and begin enjoying your time here. So on reflection, what you have here is perfection - please don't change it. Mario [caretaker] is lovely and welcoming, the accommodation, the sea, the house layout and sea breezes fabulous and your help with the car, plus the emailed directions and things to see and do, simply top off what we had hoped to be our first trip to Mexico and holiday as a family of five.

The only shortfall of this place is that the internet photos don't do it justice – perhaps, in this way, we were lucky, as it ensured it was free for when we wanted it especially at short notice.

Thanks again

Gary, Jo, and 3 small children.

PS. I found the numerous small reefs by kayak - they are stunning and the kids loved snorkelling around them.

Far Away Relaxation and Beauty

  • 5 of 5

Sometimes to experience the world in a totally different way than the majority, you have to make a voyage from the familiar into far away places where few have ventured or even dared. We did this and learned so much about ourselves and others in this awesome home by the sea. Myself, my wife, daughter and son-in-law stayed here for a week in May of 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Words don't do the bedroom view and evening breeze justice. We kayaked 500 yards off the property to find a reef full of fish life. On the way we witnessed barracuda schooling fish and saw sting rays swimming between us and leaping from the sea. No need to go into town for snorkeling, its right out your front (or back) door. We stayed up until wee hours star gazing - absolutely amazing (download the star app). I'd pay a thousand dollars right now to be sunk into the hammock as the sun goes down drinking a beer. Take a walk down the road and introduce yourselves to the neighbors - some lack money but are far from poor. These people are friendly and trusting and eager to try and speak with you. The housekeepers, Marisela and Jorge are endearing and friendly. Jorge paddled out to the reef with me and we snorkeled. He made an awesome drink for us with coconut and tequila that was muy bueno. Marisela cooked fish and lobster for us - US$25 fed 4 of us. How's that for saving a buck or two? Two of us went fly fishing (hunting really) (Nick Denbow) for Tarpon in the lagoon 5 minutes away and had an outstanding time, even though I lost a goliath tarpon after a spectacular jump. We fly fished from the kayak just off the property. Please ask Michael for my contact info if you would like some tips - I'd be glad to help. Follow Michael's suggestions for directions and buying food and other stuff. Mahahual is a fun little day trip 20 minutes down the road, but plan on wanting to stay here the rest of the time. Be wary of the "cruise ship menu" - convert to pesos and use the Mexican menu, you pay less - do the math. Your stay is going to make you have the worst vacation blues you ever had.

Simply Luxurious Property in Paradise. Stunning!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 (children's ages: 6-19) enjoyed a 2 week stay at Casona Palms: an impressive, spacious, clean and well cared for villa.

This rental seemed too good to be true! Now I can attest and add to the perfect 5-star reviews of Casona Palms. It is an incredible paradisiacal property! The home's interior and exterior architecture and design are simple, yet gorgeous. The beauty of its curved lines continue into the landscape: the yard is completely white sand with palm trees, flowering shrubs and meticulously sculpted hedges. All of this is set on a private section of the Caribbean!

From my initial inquiry to Michael (the owner) to my family's return home, I received STELLAR professional, prompt and helpful responses by email and phone to assist in creating a dream family vacation. Michael provided extensive resources and advice to plan and navigate my family's visit. His utmost desire is for his guests to have an enjoyable stay at his property.

Jorge and Marisela (on-site caretakers) were available at all times to answer questions and assist with the property/area. As my family does not speak Spanish, we used Google Translate effectively to communicate with them. Daily, Jorge and Marisela cheerfully set up the hammocks, kayaks, raked the beach, tidied the home and even prepared coconuts and connected us with local fishermen for lobster tails. They were a delightful addition to our Casona Palms experience.

This was our first visit to the Costa Maya area. This home heightened our experience with beauty and tranquility as my family prefers vacationing away from crowds and "touristy areas."

We enjoyed sun-rises, starry nights and the reflection of the moon on the sea, playing bocce ball and beach paddle ball, sunbathing, snorkeling and kayking. It was a treat to relax at Casona Palms with the palm trees swaying, make meals "at home" and dine outdoors. It felt as though we were at a private spa with ample opportunities for adventure and exploration accessible by car. We visited Mahahual (charming fishing village for dining, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving...), the beautiful Seven Color Bacalar Lagoon, and Chacchoben Ruins.

I cannot recommend this home enough.

Michael, thank you for being the best host imaginable.

Fabulous family vacation

  • 5 of 5

Thank you to Michael, Jorge and Marisel for a truly memorable stay in the upmarket Consona Villas and your excellent advice, warm hospitality in such an idyllic and unique place. The local sea and lagoon fishing trips were productive and very good value and the snorkelling both up and down the coast from the shore was fantastic!

Only recommendation is to make sure you have enough cash as the local ATMs in Mahahual aren't always working!

Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Where to start... secluded, clean, safe, just perfect! We traveled with 6 teenagers raging in ages from 13 to 18. We thought we would have to book activities to keep them busy since the property is off the beaten path. Well neither one of them wanted to leave, ever. When ever we decided not to use the amazing grill and wanted to head to town, they put up a fight.

If this isn't a compliment I am not sure what is.

They loved the beach, the kayaks, the volleyball net, the house, the board games. We the parents, loved the tranquility, the clean and ample accommodations. Everything we needed was there and then some. This home allowed us to make memories that will last a life time, we will be returning.

Thank you!

Well cared for. Highly recommend

  • 5 of 5

We are travelers who enjoy being away from the crowds. This is the place to come if you enjoy the same.

Casona Palms is a very well managed and well cared for home. When you walk in you are immediately blown away by the beauty both indoors and out. The home is well crafted with thoughtful details and beautiful landscaping. We enjoyed the patio area which allowed for enjoyment of the outdoors and beauty of the ocean under shade. Hammocks were set up daily for enjoyment of the ocean breeze between the palm trees.

The kitchen is very well equipped and has a full size 6 burner stove, blender, full size fridge and great food preparation area with loads of counter space. Coffee maker with filters is provided as well as a toaster. We never felt like we were lacking anything in the kitchen.

We stayed with our son, who is 8 years old. He loved the caretakers & the dogs, despite the language barrier they were able to form a wonderful connection. Our son spent most evenings hunting around the property for hermit crabs with a bright flash light. If you have kids bring along a light for them to do the same. Jorge helped him find several hiding under the bushes. Such fun!

The beach area is wonderful for swimming or just building sand castles. There are several toy buckets and shovels for the kids to have a great time. The kayaks are great for getting out a bit father to explore and do some snorkeling. There are a few life jackets on hand for both adult and kids.

The beds were VERY comfortable. The adjustable shutters allow for ample airflow throughout the bedrooms upstairs. We all slept very well here, waking each morning to the sounds of the birds, wind in the palms and sound of the waves. There is also a great closet. The bathrooms are very spacious. Bottled water is provided for teeth brushing. Showers are very big, there is no shortage of hot water.

The caretakers were very gracious and helpful. I suggest if you cannot speak Spanish very well, to download Google translate onto your smartphone for easy communication. They were always up early raking the beach and making things tidy, hanging hammocks and setting out the kayaks for our use. If you need them they are there for whatever you need, otherwise they are quiet and keep to themselves. They are a definite asset.

Michael, the owner, has always been very prompt and friendly with communication. My booking was seamless and easy. Do not hesitate to book this vacation home with him. We recommend it 100%!

Location

Our villa is located on a secluded part of the coast, about 35 km. (35-40 minutes drive) north of Mahahual which, in turn, is about a 4 hour drive south of Cancun. For those wanting to get out and about while at the villa - highly recommended - renting a car is best. It is a very simple drive, mainly on the excellent highway 307, through Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Felipe Carillo Puerto and Limones. But do you prefer not to drive? There is a Cancun Airport to Mahahual valet service for groups of up to 8 passengers, with stops on the way for a meal and shopping and combined with taxi support at the villa. Ask us for more information.

Because the villa is secluded, we recommend guests to stock up on groceries on the way. The local village has a number of food & beverage shops but, as an alternative, there is an F&B concierge service available. All these are described in the Guest Book that is available at the villa and mailed to you before you leave home.

The Unique Benefits at this Villa:Our villa combines the style of white Mediterranean villas with Mayan touches (see photos). From the villa, you walk straight to your private beach and the warm waters of the Caribbean! All rooms face the Caribbean Sea, enjoy marvellous views, are very light and have the sea breeze constantly flowing through wooden louvered shutters and doors. The villa is spacious (4000 sq. ft.) yet easy to keep clean! Whilst the interior is delightful, you will find yourself constantly enjoying the unique outdoor features of the property and exploring the near deserted coastline. Be sure to view all the photos – they’ll give you a true impression of this idyllic property.

More Leisure Activities: Boating, Kayaking, Surfing.
