Bedrooms 4
Separate WC's1
Space 3,180 sq ft
Property type lodge
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

About the property

Spacious Alpine 4 Bedroom, 4 Bathroom, Chef's Kitchen, Hot Tub in the Woods

Come and experience our spacious Alpine retreat in the forest known as Red Timber Lodge. We fondly call her, 'Logzilla’, our chalet on the Hill.

With no shortage of curb appeal, The Red Timber lodge sits on over 1/3 of an acre of beautifully landscaped grounds. A meandering path winds around the lodge surrounded by Maple, Aspen and massive Jeffry Pines.

From a generous redwood deck walkway, enter the massive timber front porch that begs for an early morning coffee or afternoon tea and a book in the hammock. Welcoming wood doors open to a stunning two-story cathedral ceiling. A spacious great room with 12 massive windows, 20 feet above greet you and offer morning sun, bright naturally lit afternoons and star viewing at night. Don't forget the wood-burning fireplace and floor to ceiling rock chimney to warm family and friends when the chill outside sets in.

Devour the fully stocked chef's kitchen which includes a brand new suite of high-end stainless steel appliances. Gather at the island for conversation and coffee, spread out at the breakfast bar, or sit for dining at the large woodsy table with bear and claw carved chairs adorn with a spectacular antler chandelier above that is surrounded by forest-view windows.

The bar tucked beneath a massive timber log suggests libations and appetizers to draw out the day’s adventures,

Shoot a round of pool or play a few hands of poker in a warm game loft overlooking the great room with a surround sound a/v theater and a crackling wood-burning fireplace,

Retire or lounge in your choice of two grand master suites – one upstairs, large enough to be it's own mini-retreat including a rock-clad wood-burning fireplace at the foot of the bed and two tree lined balconies - both with sprawling bathrooms, views of the forest and jetted Jacuzzi tubs,

Tuck into the snug and cozy bunkroom that will bring out the kid in all,

Bed-down in the warm whimsical cowboy bedroom that overlooks the backyard garden and forest,

Not ready for that yet? Sink into the sofa and chairs of the great room, light a fire and watch with family and friends your choice of an array of entertainment offered through various streaming venues on an impressive flat screen and surround-sound system that rivals any.

Relax or dine on the back deck that demands a festive BBQ or cocktail hour,

Last but not least, and only steps from the back deck, cap it all off in the body-and-soul soothing hot tub and deck surrounded by vanilla scented Jeffrey Pines under the stars. You just can't go wrong here!

On a side note, if you must stay connected to the outside world the lodge is well equipped with Wi-Fi and for those that remember the old days, there’s even a landline telephone!

A short brisk walk or bike ride has you arriving at the base of Snow Summit within minutes for your adventurous day on our four-season mountain! Switch it up and ride to or hop on the Inter-Mountain Ski Shuttle to Bear Mountain for a variety of four season activities. Check event schedules for both as there is always something going on.

Take a five minute drive to the Village for fantastic restaurant, bar, and shopping choices...or just take a meandering stroll or plop down at one of the many Village fire pits to warm up with some hot chocolate or cool off with that irresistible ice cream cone! Don't forget to check out the calendar of concerts, movies, and comedy shows at the Cave while you're in town. If you fancy a mountain dive-bar, check out Murray’s in the village.

If you happen to be here on a Thursday evening you'll be lucky to slide into an open seat at the beautiful lakeview bar at the Pines and catch the stunning mountain sunsets and some lovely live jazz that will leave Snoopy dancing in your head through the night. Or mix it up and head over to the Other Room in Big Bear City for “open mic” night where you'll be amazed with the local color and musical artistry...not to be missed...really!

Head up to the Big Bear Alpine Zoo for a heartwarming visit with some of the most incredibly beautiful and intriguing creatures! Our zoo is one of only two Alpine zoos in the US! They also have a rescue and rehabilitation program, read about their success stories on their site. Don't miss the opportunity to see and learn about a real “big bear”...the family of rescued grizzly bears will have you smiling ear to ear! Raccoon Saloon is not to be missed! The invaluable knowledge and compassion you'll gain will leave you excited to return again and again, especially when their new and improved zoo opens in 2018.

Warm up your swing and play 9 holes of golf at our alpine course tucked in the woods.

For the warm summer days, the lake is a five-minute drive. Boat, swim, ski, ride, paddleboard, kayak or just soak up the high altitude sun!

Or simply stay put and flop around the Red Timber Lodge...snuggle up with a book, a blanket, and a roaring fire in one of our many cozy nooks...or create a masterpiece meal in the well equipped kitchen that happens to have a flurry of squirrels, blue jays, woodpeckers, and bunnies right outside the bay window!

On any day take a peaceful drive around the lake where you may catch a glimpse of the breathtaking American White Pelicans hanging out around the lake or stop by The Discovery Center for nature hikes, local information, and outdoor summer concerts.

Grab your mountain bike, hiking boots or snow shoes and wander through the staggering amount of endless mountain trails! If you have a capable vehicle, explore the more than 600 miles of dirt roads and trails that meander the wilds of the Big Bear Valley. Truly remarkable! If not rent a self-drive jeep or take a guided tour. If you have OHV’s you will be in heaven!

Red Timber Lodge is an ideal place to slow down (or speed up on the slopes) and enjoy time with family and friends.

It's a stunning setting for corporate retreats, girl getaways, reunions, and just about anything else that you can think of.

We look forward to welcoming you to the warm, mesmerizing woods and massive logs of Red Timber Lodge!

Awesome Place!

  • 5 of 5

Just came back from a 3 night stay at this great house. 3 families (6 adults + 5 kids) had a really great time. Owners met us when we arrived and pointed out various helpful hints for staying at the house. Very friendly and nice to get the walk through. House was perfect for our group. Lots of room and kids had a blast. We skied Snow Summit which is only about a 5 min drive away. Jacuzzi was nice after a day on the slopes. It snowed while we were there and the owners sent someone to remove the snow from the driveway which was a nice touch. (driveway is steep - if it snows you'll probably need AWD or chains)

Overall, this was one of our best experiences with VRBO and definitely the nicest house we have rented in Big Bear.

My friends and I were very excited to stay at this beautiful cabin over the weekend during our snowboarding trip. The home is beautifully decorated, spacious, and well stocked with kitchen supplies, linen, and toiletries. Everything was clean and accessible. Location was also great for us, as it was a short walk away from Snow Summit.

Lastly, a big thank you to the owners Daen & Greg who were so kind and extremely welcoming from the start. They made themselves available any time. Communication was easy. They even had someone plow the driveway after it snowed. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Exceeded Expectations!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property with a group of friends (adults and teens) and all expectations were exceeded. As cliché as it sounds, the pictures really DON'T do it justice. I have rented from VRBO and Airbnb, all over the world, and this was the cleanest, most well-stocked property I have stayed in. Daen and Greg were wonderful to work with. Quick to respond as well as met us at the property to show us around (so many times it is such a guessing game). The attention to detail in the home shows their love for it and was much appreciated. It was so nice to have more than enough towels, including beach towels for the Jacuzzi. We brought so many things that were already at the house, such as a crockpot, extra paper towels, and cleaning products that I will know not to bring next time. There are plenty of (matching) dishes and bowls (not a big deal but sure was nice to have...) I will stay in one of their properties whenever I return to Big Bear. Location is perfect and it is well worth the price!!!

Fabulous quintessential Log Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

First of all I need to mention how wonderful and easy it was to book with Daen & Greg; how nice to have owners that truly care about their property and making their guests feel truly appreciated! This cabin is so impressive from the moment you pull up! We spent 12/21 thru 12/26 with our family of 5 and loved every minute. The cabin was beautifully decorated for Christmas both inside & out. Upon entering Daen & Greg walked us all around the property to make sure we knew everything we needed to, even though a complete book of instructions/tips/etc. on counter and at all pertinent places throughout. They answered any questions we had and even left some nice welcome gifts— including dog treats for our pups! Enjoy the beautifully remodeled kitchen with everything needed to cook just about any meal. Upgrades galore and true pride in ownership at every turn. Location was great-so close to everything but we always felt as if we were far away from it all. We hope to be back again soon - maybe this summer!
