This beach house sits atop a cliff next to Lawrencetown Beach, one of the best surfing beaches in Canada. The house is very private set 1 mile back from the main road. The house includes a dog pen for your pet, internet connection, a flat screen TV in the livingroom wood stove fireplace, and panoramic views of the ocean. Only 30 minutes from Halifax where you can enjoy all the attractions of city including tours of the harbour, whale watching and a ride on the Harbour Hopper that takes you around Halifax and then out into the Harbour. Next to the house is the Canada Trail for walking or cycling or cross country skiing. There are several rental places where you can rent surf boards or kayaks or go horseback riding. Beautiful French Acadian villages along the ocean make for great scenic drives. Many artists have walk in studios along the coast and there are many great beaches including Conrad Beach, Martinique Beach and Clam Harbour Beach.

About Beth Newell
I am 60 years old but feel like twenty especially living near the ocean. I was born on Grand Manan Island in the Bay of Fundy where you can see the highest tides in the world. I grew up in the Golden Horseshoe area of Ontario where I studied dance at York University and eventually received my Masters in Counselling Psychology. I have been a Counselling Therapist here in Nova Scotia since 2001 when I returned to the ocean I love. My husband was a police officer with the Dartmouth Police for 33 years. He is now retired and looks after a disabled brother and everyone else in the family. We live about 8 km from the cottage.
Beth Newell purchased this House in 2003
Why Beth Newell chose Halifax County
You will know when you arrive. It is a little gem on the Atlantic Ocean. Very cozy with lots of handmade art and an ever-changing panoramic view of the ocean from the two large front windows. Everything you need to make great meals and lots of walking trails in every direction. Many of my guests have returned several times because there is no place like it.
What makes this House unique
Out in the country and not far from the city of Halifax. Watch surfers or surf yourself all year round. Many beautiful beaches, Lawrencetown Beach 10 minutes on the trail away and others from 8 minutes and up. This is a very central location to use as a base to tour Nova Scotia.

It doesn't get any better than this!
Location! Location! Location!
The sea is literally at your doorstop and constantly enchanting the eye from every spot on this property. Our goal was to be as close to the sea as possible, and we got what we came for. The house is quaint, charming, rustic and leaves you feeling as though you have been there before, comfortable, like home. everything you need is there. The wood stove was excellent. The kitchen, though small, is perfectly adequate.
Having the trail right there is exceptional. The place is also well set up for dogs.
We honestly cannot wait to go back!
Thank you for your kind and sweet review of the little Seadance Cottage nestled by Lawrencetown Beach. I have had such great guests since I have started renting the cottage. They take care of it like it is their own. Everyone has respected me and my little cottage. We thank you very much!
Cozy waterfront home
My family of four enjoyed our time spent at the Seadance Cottage. The cottage had amazing views of the ocean. We enjoyed hearing the crashing of the waves and seeing breathtaking sunrises. Our family took advantage of the walking trails near the property.
Spectacular! The ocean, the property, the home! Loved it all!
We loved this house and so did our dogs!
The home is decorated so nicely with great art and a large, comfortable living room. Bedrooms are comfortable with really nice linens. The bathroom has been nicely done and has a great window in the shower so we could enjoy the outdoor beeezes. The kitchen has what you need to make a good meal, cocktails at night, and coffee in the morning. We had good weather and enjoyed meals on the deck overlooking the ocean, but there is a nice dining table in the kitchen for 4 people. We loved the windows all along the ocean side (floor to ceiling, basically a wall of windows!) providing amazing views all day and night too. The dog area outside was bigger than I expected and it is set up so that you can let the dogs stay on the deck and have access to the fenced area while you are inside or enjoying the deck with them. They are contained on the deck and fenced area so you don’t have to worry about them wandering off for a swim in the ocean or a hike without you. The big yard and gardens are really nice. The owners obviously put a lot of time into the property. My dogs could play ball and wrestle on the lawn or just lie on the grass and soak up the sun.
The location of this house is spectacular! We hiked along the Atlantic Trail right behind the property. It’s also a great place to ride bikes. And the beach! This was our favorite part! We walked right down to the rocky beach from the home and walked along the shore forever! We ended up at a sandy area and had a blast with the dogs chasing a ball and each other and us! So much fun and we didn’t see another soul. It’s like having your own huge, private beach. We found a way up to the trail from the beach and walked back home that way on a smaller trail that parallels the Atlantic Trail and goes right to the yard.
The proximity to Dartmouth/Halifax is a huge bonus. Sobeys and NSLC are 10 miles away and there are great restaurants too. Lawrencetown Beach is minutes from the house and a small grocery is right up the road from the beach and has pizza, ice, etc, and is run by the sweetest guy. Past the road to the house in the other direction is a Rose and Rooster, a good bakery.
Beth and her husband are wonderful and so easy to work with. We had to leave early due to a hurricane headed to our home and they were so accommodating and caring- such good souls. The only negative is that our dogs now want an ocean in our front yard! We will be back!
The most wonderful cottage in the most perfect place. Peaceful. Dramatic. Serene. Heaven.
The perfect spot in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Thank you, Beth.
Fantastic get away with breathtaking ocean view.
My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay. What a beautiful and clean place with all needed accommodations. The house is very private and away from traffic noise and city lights. So, every evening, we sat on the deck listening to the ocean waves and watching thousands of stars. Our two yorkipoo girls especially appreciated the access to the dog park directly from the deck. So pets can also enjoy a little leash-free time outdoors.
Thank you Beth.

We loved our time at Seadance Cottage! A lovely, well-designed little home with spectacular, unobstructed ocean views. A perfect getaway for us, our one-year-old, and our two dogs. (We love that our baby and dogs were made welcome too!) So many personal touches make the home unique and its proximity to both Dartmouth and Halifax is convenient too. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer!!!!!! Thank you Beth!!!
Lawrencetown is a beach community with the best surfing in Canada all year round. The village is approximately 30 minutes from downtown Halifax where there are historic attractions, shopping, restaurants and theatre. My home has a panoramic view of the Atlantic ocean and the lights of the Halifax harbour can be seen at night. The house is next to the Canada Trail a marvelous walking and cycling trail that winds around the oceanside. My house has a dog pen for your pet. The house is set up on a cliff and is very private with the closest neigbours over 1/2 mile away.September is a great month to visit here as the weather is still beautiful and the beaches are deserted.
