More verbose way of saying everything above:
Make our ski-in/ski-out townhouse condo your home base as you experience the best Mother Nature has to offer in Big Sky Montana. Our goal is to provide our guests with a true home-away-from-home experience. We strive to make you as happy to come back to the condo at the end of the day as you were while you were skiing or rafting, hiking or biking, or doing any of the other countless outdoor activities that Southwest Montana has to offer.
Big Sky is centrally located between historic Bozeman and West Yellowstone making ours the perfect location if you want to spend most of your time enjoying the outdoors of Big Sky, but also want to spend a day or two seeing the geysers and fumaroles or visiting the Museum of the Rockies and doing some shopping down Main Street. Then come back to Big Sky for skiing or dog sledding or mountain biking or fly fishing or whitewater rafting or golf. There is also horseback riding, wildlife viewing (the Gallatin National Forest is just down the mountain), zipline, paintball, tennis, ATV riding, snowmobiling, snow shoeing and more and more...
Our highly rated home-away-from-home is located in the Big Sky Resort Mountain Village with unobstructed views of Lake Lavinsky and the Cascade mountains. Our front door is about 100 steps from the Bear Back Poma lift which is a short ride to the bottom of the Silver Knife ski run and the base area. In less than 10 minutes, you could go from the living room to sitting on the Swift Current high speed quad on your way to enjoying over 5700 skiable acres.
When you return back to our place after a day spent in the Montana outdoors, you won't be at a loss for something to do. For starters, the living room has a 46” HDTV (with actual HD programming), a Bluray home theater, streaming Netflix & Hulu Plus. Every bedroom also has its own HDTV & DVD player. All rooms have HD DirecTV with HBO, Showtime, Starz, Cinemax, The Movie Channel, Encore and the Sports Pack. If you're concerned you might miss your favorite TV shows, just have one of the DVRs record them for you and watch them later from any TV.
If you took hundreds of pictures, have fun editing them on our computer with Photoshop Elements then send them to your friends back home. If video is more to your liking, get a head start on your production with Premiere Elements. Don't forget to bring your laptop, tablet or smartphone and connect to our free WiFi. We also provide a selection of board games and magazines or you can settle down in front of the fireplace to read a book and enjoy the mountain views.
The upstairs master bedroom is decorated in an Indian theme and has a queen bed, a queen sofa sleeper, a 40” HDTV, Netflix, Hulu Plus and views of Lone Peak. There is also a PlayStation 4 to keep the kids occupied. The downstairs bedroom is decorated in a fisherman's theme and has a queen bed, a 32” HDTV (also with Netflix & Hulu Plus), PlayStation 3 and panoramic unobstructed views of the lake and mountains. The living room and upstairs guest bedroom offer the same views. The guest bedroom is decorated in a hunter's theme and has two twin beds, a 32” HDTV (also with Netflix & Hulu Plus) and XBOX360. The living room, decorated in a western skiing theme, also has a queen sofa bed.
Our kitchen is fully equipped and our washer, dryer and hot water heaters (we have two) are large capacity (a feature you'll appreciate if your group is on the big side).
Do you have a hot tub or pool access? Day passes to the Shoshone pool, hot tub, sauna & workout room are available for purchase from the resort.
Are you 'true' ski in - ski out? You will need to walk the approximately 100 steps to get to the poma lift, but if the roads are covered with snow, you will be able to ski back to the front door with a little bit of polling. Likewise, if the roads are snow covered, you may be able to ski to the Thunderwolf high speed quad, although the poma would be the better option.
Will we need a rental car to get around in Big Sky? We are on the free shuttle route that loops the mountain & meadow villages and the canyon. These take you to the shops and restaurants as well as the ski base area if you don't want to ride the poma lift. We are about 1/4 mile away from the main base area.
Are discounted lift tickets available? Big Sky Resort does not make discounted lift tickets available to rental by owner. About the only way to get a discounted ticket is to purchase the Sky Card before Sept 30. The Sky Card discounts $25/day of each ticket. It also offers discounts off lessons and merchandise. The Sky Card and lift tickets must be purchased directly from Big Sky Resort. Another option for discounts in general is the free Boyne Reward card. You'll earn points on lift tickets and purchases at Boyne owned stores and restaurants that can be exchanged for gift certificates. It typically works out to about a 5% savings.
We first visited Big Sky in 1994. Being from Florida, we never skied before, but we wanted to give it a try. Not knowing if we would like it we decided to find a place close to Yellowstone as a back up plan in case skiing wasn't for us. Well, both were great experiences. Since that first trip to Big Sky, we'd skied about a dozen other resorts, but Big Sky is the only place we ever returned to. It's not that the other ski resorts weren't great, but Big Sky has less than half the visitors of Jackson Hole and four times fewer than Vail while at the same time offering one of North America's largest ski areas and unlimited outdoor recreational activities in both summer & winter. Big Sky is the place to be to escape the monotony and stresses of everyday life.
Ethan Jordan purchased this townhome in 2000
Going up the lift one day, we asked a former European ski instructor why he moved to Big Sky. He pointed to Lone Peak. Some of the best lift served extreme terrain in the country. But, it isn't only about the steeps, you also get long wide uncrowded blue and green groomers. Imagine being the only skier on a 3 mile long half-a-football field wide slope. No wonder Warren Miller calls Montana home. Some don't like the lack of a bar-hoping nightlife, but that makes it more appealing to us. In addition to a world class ski mountain, Big Sky is just an hour away from Yellowstone, America's first national park, and its about 15 minutes to the Gallatin National forest. While whitewater rafting and fly fishing is a short ride down the mountain, we are located in the heart of the resort activities (skiing, mountain biking, zip line, paintball and more...). So why Big Horn? First because it is in the Big Sky Mountain Village in the heart of the ski resort. Second, because it is only an hour from Yellowstone and the airport. Third, because it offers all of the above at a reasonable price.
While you'll probably spend most of your daytime hours skiing, rafting, hiking or doing one of the other many outdoor activities Big Sky has to offer, you'll probably spend much of the night indoors. That's why we strive to provide our place with as many in-house activities as you would have in your own home. For example, while most places offer only basic cable, we have 4 HDTV's all with actual high definition DirecTV and all the premium movie channels. Plus all of those TV's have Netflix & Hulu Plus. While some places don't offer internet at all or less than 6 megabit/sec if they do, we offer 20 megabit/sec plus free use of our computer & printer. Or, bring your laptop, tablet or smartphone and connect to our WiFi. While most places have one hot water heater, we have two. You may say, so what, but two heaters make it much less likely you'll run out of hot water. Also, image the disaster if you stay at a place that has only one and that one breaks down. It's not like they're a hotel and can move you to another room. We upgraded our washer and dryer to large capacity so you can spend more time enjoying Big Sky and less time washing loads of clothes. We upgraded our wood burning fireplace to an EPA efficient system that burns not just wood, but also the smoke and volatile gases resulting in less pollution and more heat. With the interior surroundings, we spent a little more to theme decorate making for a more inviting and enjoyable atmosphere for your stay. We did all this in part because it makes business sense, but we also did it because we use the place ourselves for our vacation and we like to treat ourselves well. Some other things that make our place stand out are the unobstructed lake and mountain views. And, you will really appreciate the ski/hiking boot dryers. Nothing can ruin a ski trip faster than wet cold feet.
We were very pleased with this condo. This was my first trip to Big Sky and I'll be back. This condo was comfortable and convenient. We rarely used our car, but it was nice to store it in a garage. Ski in and Ski out is a plus. It is a short walk to the mountain base too. The kitchen has everything anyone would need. The internet connection was a plus. This place comes with lots of nice little extras.
Store ski's in Garage!! Great mud room for putting on boots and 2 boot dryers and an easy walk to pama lift to ski to Mountain Village!! Easy walk to Village to eat and shop!! If you need 3 bedrooms and 3 baths this is a great spot. A bit to warm, but that's Mother Nature's responsibility!!!!!! Enjoy
This location is terrific for skiing at Big Sky. It's a short 100 yard walk to the Bear Back Poma lift for an easy glide down to the Mountain Village base area. (And only a five minute walk from the condo on the street to the same base area.)
About the condo. First, we have to say that working with the owner is a delight. He's very responsive and helpful. Next, the condo is very well equipped with cooking and dining items. The condo was clean and efficient. I will say that it's a bit tight around the dining table -- for our party of four, there was no issue, but a larger group might find it a touch on the congested side. The bedrooms and baths (3 of each) were clean and comfortable and stocked with the appropriate items. We didn't use the fireplace, but there was a good stock of firewood. We took full advantage of the garage for our rental GMC Acadia with plenty of room for it and our skis. One other thing, the amenity of two boot dryers is very thoughtful. We've never had those at the other condos we've used in the 10 years our group has been making an annual western trip. A very nice touch.
Skiing at Big Sky is exceptional. Obviously, with 5800 acres of terrain, there's good variety. And as we've become more knowledgeable of the resort, we've found that it's easy to get around. There is a nice selection of groomers (BS really should get accolades for that in the annual SKI magazine reviews), plenty of glades and bumps, and, of course, some really challenging stuff off Headwaters and Challenger lifts and the Tram. Oh, and it's just not crowded. We seldom waited more than a minute or two to load to a lift (the Tram being an exception) and most often just skied right on.
So go to Big Sky and seriously consider this location.
We had a problem with no hot water. After a call to the property manager the problem was fixed within a few hours.
The cabin was comfortable and it was easily accessible as it was about .22 miles to the Main Lodge and about a block to the Bear Back Poma.
I have stayed in a number of VRBO rentals over the past couple of years and this is one of the best for sure. It is in a great location and is well apportioned for your stay. In fact, this place was probably the most well thought out I have been at and we did not want for anything in terms of supplies. The location in the upper village area is ideal (although we didn't realize what a cool area it was until the last day of our trip). The lake in front of the house makes for a great walk and a great backdrop to nights spent on the deck overlooking it. I cannot recommend this place highly enough ... it is a great place to stay for a great vacation!
1 hour from the airport and West Yellowstone entrance.
