IBM retiree and semi-retired university professor born in San Juan, PR. Lived 12 years in the US, where we worked and attended graduate school.
Jorge and Maria Charneco purchased this house in 2003
The first time we came to Marchiquita beach area we fell in love with the spectacular 180 degrees ocean view and we decided immediately to buy the lot and build the beach house overlooking the Atlantic Ocean on a 50 ft cliff oceanfront with a 3-5 minute walk or 1 minute car ride to the public beach. There are other nice beaches in the vicinity too. We had visited other beach areas in the island but found them too crowded for us. This area was perfect to make our dream come true!
This is our family vacation home and even though we have our home in San Juan our children and grandchildren, who live in the USA, prefer to stay here in beach house because they love it!
The house is very homey! You will feel this is your 'Home Away from Home!'
Spectacular 180 degree views of the ocean. Walking distance (3-5 minute walk or 1 minute car ride) to public beach. House has a fenced yard, making it safe for children.
It is a 7-10 minutes away from town by car, where you find restaurants, fast food places, pharmacies, shopping and food stores. There is also a Casino in town, in case you are interested!
House has equipped stainless steel kitchen; amenities such as table games, etc. Plenty of sitting space in the indoor terrace and outside deck, suitable for relaxation, while enjoying the spectacular 180 degrees Atlantic Ocean view during daytime or moon and stars in the sky by night!
Play & Pack, stroller, car and booster seats for small children, as well as toys are available.
We have stayed at a few VRBO homes and have been happy, this home topped them all. The house was extremely clean, and stocked with all the extras a person could ask for. You can tell a home where the owners are close enough to make sure their investment is maintained. The outdoor deck was where we lived half covered for the nights with rain and the uncovered portion great for sunning. The great beach is a 4 minute walk or 1 minute in the car, the local eateries were great and the entire stay was fabulous, we look forward to visiting again.

Wonderful home “Villa Charespi” with great ocean views, great location and the best hostess you can find. Jorge and Maria are just wonderful and you know they care about their guest and their home. We stayed 5 nights with 4 children ages 7,10,13,15 a total of 4 children and two adults. You are greeted by the amazing view of the ocean from the terrace and you walk into a beautifully decorated and kept home. Jorge and Maria make sure you are accommodated and up to date on the home’s overall functions and access. The house is perfect for relaxing and provides all the necessary essentials for a carefree stay. The location is perfect to go out and explore the area or to go out in your own adventure. We felt safe in a gated and secured home, several of the neighbors would drive by and say hello. There’s nothing like a morning cup of P.R. coffee with “pan fresco” (fresh bread) from the local Panaderia (store) overlooking the sight and sounds of the ocean.
We hit the Mar Chiquita beach several times (my favorite beach in P.R.), it’s like a three minute walk or you can drive and park within one minute (recommended). If you venture to the right of Mar Chiquita to the “secondary beach” you can see “Villa Charespi”. Nearby beaches include Los Tubos Beach and Vega Baja beach. Vega Beach has a very nice 15 min drive and has bathroom and bath facilities for the little ones, highly recommended. They also have a life guard and tide pool for the little ones.
Another trip is to the Arecibo Lighthouse & Historic Park –kids love it and the Cueva Venta with amazing views from the cave.
The home is close to shopping at the Prime Outlets by Barceloneta, also recommended (hit the name brand stores for great prices). Another day trip we took is the recommended ferry to Old San Juan from Catano, it’s only .50 per pp and $4.00 parking. Leave early to beat the crowds and the hot sun.
Overall it’s a great place to be during your visit to P.R., have fun and enjoy, we will definitely re-book again. Thank you Jorge and Maria for providing access to your beautiful home, kids loves it, we loved it and we hope to be back soon.
We loved Villa Charespi, especially the terrace with such amazing views, a refreshing breeze and the sound of the ocean below. The house is even better than the photos. Maria and Jorge are the perfect hosts. We were a party of 5 (2 adults and 3 teenagers) and we found the villa to be very spacious. We were travelling with 2 other families who all gathered together at the villa for evening meals - plenty of room for us all on the spacious terrace.
We enjoyed the short walk to the beautiful local beach every morning, each time we had the place to ourselves, except for the neighbors little dog who liked to accompany us! The local bakery/shop is very well stocked and our kids loved the freshly made Puerto Rican bread.
This was our first visit to Puerto Rico and we would highly recommend it. We only stayed 5 nights but packed in a lot of adventures:
- Horse riding on Los Tubos beach from the stables just close to the villa that Maria recommended to us
- Cave Tubing & Rappelling with Tanama River Adventures
- Ziplining at Torro Verde
- Visiting Old San Juan via the Cantano ferry
We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend the villa to others.
Marie and Jorge are very warm and gracious property owners! They met us at the airport car rental and directed us to their home. We encountered a little bit of traffic but it generally takes 45 minutes from the airport.
They helped us get settled in the house and gave us a brief overview of the area. We were delighted when we arrived because the house was very clean and nicely decorated. We arrived at night so we ate dinner out and went to bed. When we woke up in the morning we were greeted with a breathtaking and amazing view of the ocean from their spacious terrace! We spent a lot of time there. It is very nicely furnished and we had breakfast every morning out there.
There are several beaches located close to the property and we often were the only ones on the beach. We also enjoyed the various nature trails and took a few hikes before heading to the surrounding beaches.
Overall we had an amazing vacation in Manati and were extremely happy staying in Maria and Jorge's lovely home. It was everything and more than we had hoped for our vacation. We were comfortable and felt very much at home. I had booked a nice hotel in San Juan but decided to cancel and stay in their home instead. I could not have made a better decision. It was ideal for our family and we definitely will be back. I highly recommend it!
We are a family of four and loved this location. It was away from the hub bub, but very safe. The view is spectacular - loved waking up every morning to the sunrise and birds singing with the waves crashing below. Home is clean and well stocked in every way. Maria and Jorge were very helpful - had the pleasure of meeting Lydia who became our Abuela during our stay. Beach down the street is stunning...didn't need to go anywhere else. We loved it and hated to leave.
Our family enjoyed this wonderful home! We felt it was in a great location and also gave us easy access to many of the islands diverse activities. We are a family of 4 with 2 teenage girls (ages 17 & 14). We are the type of family that enjoys some time at the beach but also adventure. We don’t do well with “all- inclusive” resorts and we also love food so this vacation was perfect for us! The house sits atop of the hill and overlooks the ocean with a beautiful view. There’s lots of decking to relax with both sun and shade. There are 3 family tables to choose from for quality dinners and a grill. The public beach called Mar Chiquita beach is a short walk or drive down the road. We spent time there with the locals over Easter break and really enjoyed the crowd. Once break was over for the locals the beach only had a few people besides us. The ocean water is fantastic for boogie boarding and great rocks to climb. Maria and Jorge let us use their beach stuff: umbrella, chairs, towels, snorkel stuff, and ball games.
Beyond the beach we went to Toro Verde in Orocovis which is a zip line. They have the longest and highest zip line in the world! Even though one of us is afraid of heights, we all went and had a blast. We did the 8 zip line tour which was perfect. The drive there is super cool. If you don’t want to go zip lining you could also go to the awesome restaurant up in the mountain Roka Dura. Both are worth the 45 minute drive up the mountains just to see and visit the mountain culture and views. Another day we drove to Fajardo and took a catamaran sailboat through “East Island Excursions.” We snorkeled, had lunch, and spent time on the island beach. Finally, we went into Old San Juan. We took the ferry as recommended by Maria and once off the ferry jumped on the free trolley straight up to El Morro castle (eat first or bring snacks/water). We then walked down and had a great day exploring Old San Juan. We ate at Barrachina restaurant and it was great! Don’t forget to go beyond the gates and walk the water. Maria and Jorge are beautiful people, met us at the airport, and were very helpful. They take great pride in Puerto Rico and it shows! Never did any of us feel unsafe. The home itself is surrounded by locked gates. Before we went, we treated some clothes with mosquito repellent chemicals but didn't see many mosquitos. We skipped the bioluminescent bay, rainforest, and cave this time but hope to be back! Thank you!!
