A wonderful, beautifully appointed, corner house directly overlooking the sea

The exclusive comunidad of El Enclave is positioned on rocks just above the sea. It has its own private jetty where you can swim, fish and explore the nearby marine park. El Nido (the Nest) has a private terrace with 180 degree views of La Herradura bay giving it a real 'wow' factor. It is both private and romantic but close enough to the beach to make visits to the bars and restaurants an easy 10 minute walk. The house is furnished to a very high standard and is the home of the owner for half the year. This ensures that it has all you need for a comfortable and hassle free stay. The house is watched over by Inma, the concierge, who is on site to help with any problems. The nearby village of La Herradura manages to keep its Spanish character and still maintains a daily market. El Nido is special as the top mark reviews and the many repeat visitors and early bookings testify. It is popular for honeymoon and anniversary stays.

Out and About: La Herradura is only an hour away from Granada, a must for most people and there are several shorter trips that can be done to the Alpujarras mountains and other inland places for a look at the more typical Spain. All the well known tourist centres of Andalucia such as Ronda, Sevilla, Cordoba and Marbella are within a 3 hour drive making it a good centre for sightseeing. Granada Province and La Herradura itself are well known for its tapas and generally speaking offer good value for money compared to its neighbours to the west.

There is plenty of reading material and advice available to visitors in the house. For those less active the house and the comunidad are ideal just to chill out and relax either by the pool, on the jetty or on the terrace. The owner has been in the area for over 20 years and knows it well so is only too happy to help with advice.

Sporting Activities: La Herradura has a comprehensive water sports centre on the beach which gives tuition and hires out boats and surf boards. Underwater diving can be done from centres in Nerja and Marina del Este both within easy reach. Hand gliders can be seen regularly taking advantage of the cliffs above La Herradura bay.

Tennis courts can be hired opposite El Enclave and there is a well run riding school close by which provides beautiful horses and tuition for all levels of riding expertise. What better way to explore the courtryside and the beach!.

Golf is more relaxing, cheaper and accessible than on the western side of Malaga. Details of courses are given below.

For walkers the area has a superb variety of interesting walks from strolling on the beach to more serious forays into the Sierras where the views match any of its rivals from Peru to the Rockies. The Costa Tropical is also unusual in that you can enjoy sunbathing on the coast or sking in the mountians on the same day

Why Jill Parker chose Costa Tropical & Lecrin Valley

I have always loved the area and jumped at the chance of a property on El Enclave, only 15 kilometres away because of its position overlooking the sea and the spanishness of the village and the comunidad itself. I am only the second owner of the house in over 30 years and both of us have loved it since we moved in. The architect made good use of the position and every house in el Enclave looks directly out onto the bay. Having said that, I believe that El Nido has one of the best positions of any of the houses.

My neighbours now are mostly spanish. Many of them live in Granada and have owned their houses since el Enclave was first built. In spite of my limited spanish they are very helpful and I am slowly getting to know them even though many of them only visit at weekends or use their houses in July and August.

I have never regretted the move especially as I look out into the sea from the terrace. It is easy to take it for granted and then someone comments on what a beautiful house it is and I realise that it is special. Sharing this with others gives me great pleasure.

Lovely home, location and views

A perfect location for totally relaxing week. Everything it says on the tin and more.

The out door terrace, with lovely flowers, fantastic sea views and a superbly laid out barbeque area is wonderful. Although Early April, the weather was mostly sunny and we spent most of our time sitting out realxing with a good book and a glass of wine....perfect.

The house itself was spotless and very well laid out with every thing you could think of provided for a hassle free stay.

Waking up to the seaview from the bedroom window each morning is special and with a similar view in the kitchen, even the washing up becomes enjoyable.

Its our 3rd visit on this coastline but the 1st time we've stayed in La Herradura which we found to be the best location for easy access to shops, beach bars, markets, great bakeries and anything else you might need.

The local information Jill provides is well worth taking note of, we tried out several of her recommendations and every one was a hit. The gambas pil pil at La Gaviota lives up to the rave reviews and the tapas at El Salon just keeps coming, a meal in itself.

I'd definately recommend El Nido to anyone who appreciates fantastic views and a relaxing holiday with a tradional Spanish feel to it.

The only downfall, was having to leave.

Superb rental

This is our second holiday to this region. Last year we rented a property through owners direct which was in a very poor condition to say the least, but having really enjoyed the region I was keen to return.

I’m so pleased I never gave up on the dream of returning, El Nido was a 5-star upgrade and one I have no hesitation recommending.

The house is beautifully maintained with everything you could ever need for a relaxing holiday. The views from the balcony out to sea are amazing. Jill the owner has gone the extra mile with a first class service.

Most of our eating / drinking out revolved around Jill’s recommendations, which were spot on. A couple of our favorites tapas bar’s were Bola Marina and Bodiga. Almunecar was our preferred beach day out. I did try to spend a day in Nerja but only managed a couple of hours, definitely not for me too touristy. Snorkeling off the jetty was superb.

Perfect Holiday Hideaway

This is a beautiful, well maintained property in an excellent location with the most stunning sea view. The large terrace is the perfect place for all your al fresco meals and relaxing sundowners. A short walk takes you in to La Herradura itself with many restaurants, bars and a market which is held six days a week selling a wide variety of fresh local produce. If you can tear yourself away from El Nido the villa is well placed for day trips to Malaga , Granada and beyond. We loved swimming from the private jetty - such a treat! Jill makes the whole booking process very straightforward and she is extremely approachable. I would have no hesitation in recommending this perfect property.

Relaxing retreat in the sun at Easter

El Nido is a very special holiday home in La Herradura in Southern Spain.

The house is beautifully decorated and furnished with everything you need for a relaxing stay. The terrace is even bigger and more beautiful than the photos suggest and I guarantee you will spend a lot of time admiring its stunning views.

We had a week at El Nido in March and were blessed with sun every day. The walk into La Herradura is an easy one and we enjoyed visting the chiringuitos on the beach for lunch, buying local produce in the daily market and exploring the old town.

Jill the owner was super helpful during the booking process and she has provided a lot of useful books and leaflets in the property with ideas for visits in the area.

We had a lovely holiday in El Nido and hope to return very soon.

Beautiful home in idyllic location

A beautiful home, chic furnishing and fantastic views from all of the windows. The terrace has the wow factor looking down directly into the sea, over the bay and the headlands in both directions. The outside dining area provided the 'best table in the house' and we had every meal al fresco. El Nido is perfectly located for visiting Granada and the Alpajurras (both roughly an hour away) as well as neighbouring coastal attractions. We only stayed a week but wished it had been longer. Highly recommend this property.

Flawless vacation rental with amazing views.

We stayed at "El Nido" for a week in the beginning of May with our 1 year old daughter. The house itself was beautiful. It was well-kept and had all of the amenities we needed. And even though it was part of a community of houses, it felt incredibly private. Because of our daughter, we were busy during the day and always returned to El Nido by dinner. So for us, it was critical to have relaxing outdoor space that we could use. We must say that the deck is phenomenal and we enjoyed every moment we spent on it.

Additionally, the location is perfect to visit both Malaga and Granada and many places in between. Jill provides a ton of touristic information for guests with a personal touch. In fact, we followed one of her suggestions and had an amazing drive/lunch in a small town called Otivar.

Following our stay, Jill reached out to ensure we enjoyed our stay and asked us if we had any suggestions for the rental property. We did not.

All in all, we would highly recommend El Nido. It's worth the stay!

La Herradura has been protected from aggressive development as the coastal motorway has only recently been extended there. It is still very spanish and much less developed than the western end of the coast. The beautiful bay and wide stretch of beach can easily absorb visitors and is not overrun with crowds, even at the height of the season. It has many good restaurants along the beach and a further selection is available in the neighbouring towns of Nerja and Almunecar. There are many interesting trips that can be made inland to the typical Alpujarran villages nearby and both Malaga and Granada have much to offer visiting tourists. Both are only an hour's ride away. It is a good base for the famous Andalucian centres such as Sevilla, Cordoba and Ronda. Bus connections are good and very reasonably priced. Sea and other sports are readily available and there are three good golf courses within half an hour of the house by car. It is a well known underwater sea centre.

Golf: There are 3 golf courses within a half hour's drive of the house and a further 3 near Granada. All have very different characteristics and are both enjoyable and challenging. Rates are very good value (around 40 E's per round) compared to the western end of the coast. There is a booklet in the house covering all the courses in Andalucia with directions and facilities of each course. Courses tend to be less busy in the summer but can be tiring in the heat of the day. Most courses offer a special rate for 2 with a buggy during the summer months. Numbers for bookings are given in the booklet.

  • The bathroom has recently been completely refurbished with modern fittings and natural marble and wood décor. Plumbing and lighting have been upgraded as part of the improvements.

  • The house is more than big enough for 3 visitors but the owner prefers to limit the number to 3. Both bedrooms have wonderful sea views over the bays. The sunrises and sunsets are spectacular and the view over Herradura Bay at night is equally lovely with ever changing seascapes. Both bedrooms have recently been refurbished. The main bedroom has air-conditioning. The second bedroom has an electric fan and a double bed. Furnishing and equipment are to a very high standard. There is ample cupboard and hanging space.

Notes:
The house and complex have a spanish feel but the original german owners made sure that the rooms were carefully designed and spacious with the terrace for extra living. As well as the views it has a large sheltered eating and sitting area with a barbecue and plenty of space for sunbathing. It is completely private and a wonderful place to chill out. In the Summer guests spend most of their time there. Wifi and channel TV is available in the house. For those wanting to swim there is a choice of the private jetty where you can lie on the rocks and swim directly in the sea or you can use the communal pool which is pleasantly laid out with shades for sunbathing. All the houses are well looked after in keeping with the reputation of the complex for being one of the best locations in the area. Security is good with off street parking, a permanent concierge on site and regular visits by the gardener to keep and eye on the properties.
