About the property

This is the real deal, our camp was built by my grandfather in the 1940's and has been lovingly kept up by our family ever since. Camp Bud has 100' of waterfront in quiet School House Cove on crystal clear, spring fed, Beech Hill Pond which measure three miles by five and has great fishing, loons, ducks, eagles and so much more. We provide a 18' canoe and 2 kayaks for exploring the lake. Acadia National Park is a 45 min drive from camp.

Our roomy 10' by 20' screened/glassed in porch is just 10 feet from the waters edge. Every guest we have had over the past 4 years has said "The porch is the place to be!" Many people sleep on the porch even if there is room for them to sleep in the camp. There is nothing like listening to the rain on the roof directly over your head or hearing the Loons just outside the porch screens, catching the pine scented breeze in the evening, or hearing the waves lapping on the rock lined shore. The porch features a futon and a long roomy table built by my father 50 years ago. Using the bench and chairs the table will seat 8 comfortably for your lobster dinner (we provide all pots, utensils and special plates you would need for this) or maybe you will want to cook out on our large Bar-B-Q / Smoker located just outside the porch door, also all utensils for this are hanging on the porch wall including long forks for cooking hot dogs and s'mores over the fire pit. We also have a large table and chairs for picnicking outdoors under the pines and only 5 feet from the waters edge

Many charming features are still intact such as the painted wood floors, the original knotty pine paneling the pealed pine logs that make up the railing to the loft bedroom. The original wood shed and boat house are also still here.

The master bedroom and bathroom were added on in the 80's. This bedroom has a nice view to the water a queen size bed dresser and large closet. The bath is right beside the master and has a shower. there is another 1/2 bath in the laundry room.

We supply all linens, extra blankets, plenty of towels including beach towels, we also provide toilet paper shampoo and soap.

We have a nice large kitchen as you can see in the pictures. We supply table settings for 8 all pots and pans mixing bowels and cooking utensils in addition to paper towels plastic wrap, aluminum foil, storage containers, most basic spices, salt and pepper, coffee, sugar, flour, cooking oil, Pam, soy sauce, dish washing liquid (we do not have a dish washer).

We have had many guests that have booked 1 week the first year have come back the next year and booked 2 weeks so they can spend one at camp and the other at Acadia National Park and the many other scenic attractions.

Please contact me for more information on our camp.

About The Owner

Myself, my husband Steve and our huge Maine Coon Cat "Chewy" live next door to Camp Bud (Bud is my brother)

We live on a separate lot, not too close, but close enough to help with any issues or questions you may have.

My husband Steve and I were born here and are true "Mainers" we live on the lake year round and love it

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2000

Why The Owner chose Otis

We are the third generation to own our Camp on Beech Hill

When my grandfather built here in the 1940's there was no road to the property, they had to hike in. There were very few camps on the lake at that time.

In order to get supplies to the property that were to heavy to pack in, they waited until the ice froze and drove a truck across the lake to the sight, dropped off the supplies and came back in the Spring to continue building. One of the heavy items was my Grandmothers cast iron wood burning cook stove, unfortunately we had to remove it so our guests could enjoy a modern kitchen. Don't worry about the stove it is now at our hunting camp up north.

Perfect Family Vacation!!!

  • 5 of 5

Camp Bud is the perfect vacation rental. The camp has a fire pit, kayaks, a canoe, and fishing gear. The lake is absolutely beautiful filled with loons and ducks. We have traveled to many places and this was by far our favorite vacation. The camp is located a short distance from Acadia National Park. Linda was the perfect host. She provided a lot of useful information regarding sightseeing in the area. Our boys (who usually play lots of video games) spent their time outside fishing and kayaking. The lake is very quiet and peaceful. At night all you can hear are the loons. We will never forget our time at Camp Bud and hope to return soon!

  • 5 of 5

Camp Bud was a very nice place. The cabin was well stocked with everything that you needed. The furniture was comfy and cozy, it made it nice for our relaxing week. The camp is in a great location, very easy drive to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Beech Hill Pond was beautiful, so relaxing. We loved watching the ducks, loons and all the other wildlife. Perfect vacation ! Thanks Linda and Steve.

A little bit of heaven

  • 5 of 5

Camp Bud is phenomenal! Located centrally between Bangor and Acadia National Park/Bar Harbor, the location was perfect. It's situated on a very quiet cove of a larger lake. Watching the loons and ducks go by was a treat. A previous review mentioned a shooting range across the cove- we didn't hear one shot in our 2 week stay. There were only vacation houses across the cove. It was peaceful and tranquil the entire time.

We met the owners one time, and they couldn't have been nicer. The only time we needed something, they responded very quickly. Otherwise we were left alone. They were not intrusive at all.

We have rented many vacation cabins over the years. I have to say Camp Bud was probably the best supplied of them all. Lots of "toys"- a canoe, kayaks, a pedal boat, campfire ring, fishing rods and tackle. Lots of inside activities for rainy days, too. Lots of supplies,too- paper towels, napkins, laundry soap, bath soap, coffee filters and plenty of kitchen condiments. Linda also put together a book of local things to see and do, including directions. A lot of thought went onto setting this cabin up for rental!

The area was loaded with things to do. Besides Acadia NP, there were many charming and historic seaside towns to explore- Winter Harbor, Camden, Eastport, Machias and of course, Bar Harbor. (Lots of places to shop in Bar Harbor, too!) Too many great restaurants to mention-lobster at most! Make sure you don't miss the Union River Lobster Pound! Fantastic food and scenery. There were so many quiet ponds and lakes, along with the tranquil scenery that go with them. Also, the stars at night were great- no city lights to dim their brightness.

I would give Camp Bud more stars if i could. We really enjoyed our stay there. Lots of good memories were made at Camp Bud!

Well maintained and comfortable cabin on beautiful lake

  • 3 of 5

The property itself is beautiful. It is situated on a clear, beautiful lake perfect for swimming and canoeing. Linda was very kind and helpful. She got us more water when we needed it. She also made arrangements for us to be able to use another kayak.

The reason for three stars (and I would give three and a half if the app would let me) is that the lake was a bit too loud for our personal preference. There is a shooting range situated across the lake and at frequent intervals gunfire can be heard. Also since fireworks are now legal in Maine, at night several of the nights that we were there loud fireworks could be heard resounding across the lake and conflicting terribly with the beautiful sounds of the loons. Also, the camp to the left of camp Bud when you are facing the lake is a bit close, we heard noise from the occupants of that camp.

To sum up, if you are from a city, you will find this to be a very peaceful place and it will be perfect for you. If you are from the country and you require absolute silence to experience absolute peace, perhaps this lake is too crowded for you. The property itself is delightful!

Owner's Response: I'm glad that Patrick had so many good things to say about the camp and his stay. I don't think he understood how devastatingly low a score of three is in this business. I would like to clarify that there is no firing range anywhere on or near the Lake. I don't know what he considered to be "frequent intervals of gunfire" I was home and heard nothing. He seemed to be fixated on loud noises as he called us the second the fireworks went off and asked what was going on? We explained fireworks are legal and there was nothing we could do about it. Fireworks are not a nightly event on the lake, but can occur heading to a holiday weekend such as this, but they are of short duration and fun to watch. Yes there is a camp on the other side and it is rented also. Each camp is situated on a 100' waterfront lot with plenty of separation. Patrick makes a valid point that this is not a secluded or isolated Lake. There are other camps, people, and yes sometimes even fireworks. However the majority of the residents relish coming here for the same reasons our guests seek out Beech Hill. I would also like to point out that both our and our neighbors enjoyment of "absolute peace and silence" was disrupted by Patrick's prank of overturning the canoe and yelling alarmingly for help. After my husband ran over Patrick laughingly told him it was a joke. We were certainly not laughing. When booking I try to be sure our camp is a good match to what a guest expects their vacation to be. Sincerely Linda

If there is heaven on earth, this is it!

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a little spot to unplug and unwind, and boy did we find it. Located on a very quiet part of the pond, it's a perfect location. We were able to sit back, relax to the sound of the water hitting the shore and the cries of the loons. The water was crystal clear and we swam with the ducks. The camp itself is very cozy and well laid out. Linda and Steve were perfect hosts, very accommodating and responsive. We could not have asked for a more pleasant stay.
