About the property

Self-catering holiday home in the heart of village within easy walk to the beach

Fantastic opportunity to stay in a lofty lovingly restored former chapel, split into two dwellings that is the focal point of Rhosneigr. The property on offer is the rear 2/3rds of the original Church. Retaining many original features of the former chapel it once was including a working pipe organ, it now houses stylish holiday home. Rhosneigr has for over 100 years been a secret gem, where industrialists of the last century have had their second homes by the sea. Today this beautiful little place boasts excellent beaches and has now become a water-sports heaven for those who like to try the new adventurous sports of kite surfing and the like. Don’t worry if you haven’t tried these before there are schools who will give you 1 to 1 or group training, to help you master a new pastime. For a more sedate pace, its possible to hike up nearby Snowdonia and for an even slower pace there is the beautiful village of Rhosneigr and the nearby lanes to meander around. Whatever you choose Rhosneigr will not disappoint.

Activities: Where do we start...??

Anglesey golf course is less than one mile away. Self described as 'an interesting 18 holes links course (6330 yds, SSS 71), set amongst sand dunes, iIt is renowned for its excellent greens and numerous streams. The whole course boasts an abundance of wildlife and is an important conservation area. This golf course is used for North Wales county championship matches and because of its even nature, it is a fair test for golfers of all abilities.'

Anglesey race circuit, less than 7 miles away. Recently undergone heavy investment it now houses events almost every weekend of the year, from vintage races to national motorbike championships. A real special day out.

Beaches and boats. If you like beach holidays, Rhosneigr is the place to be. There are three in Rhos itself, family, boating/fishing and sporty/activity. You decide! Each a stroll away from cafes to eat and drink throughout the day. You can take a walk through the dunes to Maelogg lake.

Magical place: Rhosneigr is a beautiful resort. It has all you need for a great family or activity holiday. The water sports centre is excellent for taking a course in kite surfing.

You are never too far away from mountains to hike at Snowdonia, or day trips around this great Island to the nearby resort of Trearddur Bay. Much bigger and busier, great to visit but great to get away from the crowds at the end of the day and return to Christ Church in Rhosneigr.

Other day trips include Amlwch on the Northern coast and the castle town of Beaumaris on the East. The Island is very easy (and traffic free) to get around by car.

The church has been lovingly restored during 2007.

About The Owner

Hello I'm Dave from Wigan. I am a volunteer fundraiser and trustee for Friends of Mulanje Orphans (www.fomo.co.uk) caring for 5,500 orphans in Malawi. I am also a property developer and have developed the UK's first zero energy cost business park (www.armstrongpoint.co.uk), but more importantly I am a dad. My little girl loves coming to Anglesey and spending time in the Church and down on the beach. I think she prefers the winter time as she can appreciate more a hot chocolate with marshmallows at one of the many cafe bars. My personal favourite is Sullivans. The friendliness of the staff is unrivalled and their hot chocolate with all the works is delicious!

The Owner purchased this house in 2007

Why The Owner chose Rhosneigr

I bought Christ Church in 2007. I have always loved coming to Anglesey and in particular Rhosneigr. I always dreamed of bringing my kids here to play on the beach. I spent over 12 months completely renovating and refurbishing Christ Church, which I designed along with local architects. The work was contracted out to local builders, whom I project managed in 2007/8. I love the location, close to the beach and within walking distance of the golf club, railway station, village. Now my little girl comes for weekends at Christ Church and my dream is fulfilled. I want to share it with you and your family to help me with the bills!

What makes this house unique

I inherited a pipe organ when I bought the property. I got an expert in who said it was worth a few hundred pounds as no-one really wanted them. I took the option to restore the organ. My new expert friend took the pipe organ to pieces and I transported every piece to his workshop to set about the restoration. Some people think I am crazy, I couldn't let the organ disappear for ever. A stay at Christ Church means you too can play this fantastic instrument. Be careful with her though, we want to preserve her for the next visitors. The church is also very lofty. The snug, Lounge and dining areas are full height with beautiful beams above. The whole property is heated by underfloor heating to keep your toes warm on winters days. Enjoy, we do!

There are some real beautiful places to explore in Rhosneigr. Ask, we will share.

Magical place

  • 5 of 5

Great owners pack giving us lots of information about the property and our stay.

We were shown around to make sure we had everything we needed.

Our stay was magical. A great place for the whole family to interact and spend some quality time together.

The accommodation was excellent, very lofty and comfortable. There was everything that we needed for our stay. Nice to find toilet rolls and tea and coffee on arrival.

The local area is fantastic. Some small shops and lots of cafes to try out. We recommend going to Chaplains as the kids loved the ice cream. They also said they were open all year round.

Walking on the beaches was our favourite thing, it was so relaxing and peaceful. There were lots of kite surfers out one of the days. We are told it is very important place for kite surfers with great conditions.

We explored the island, taking in Newborough forest, Pilas Palas and South Stack. All thoroughly recommended.

We are all relaxed and recharged.

Awesome place to stay

  • 5 of 5

A perfect place to relax. The Church is so big and so peaceful. We had the best nights sleep ever. We played the pipe organ and the kids played table football.

Lynne the keyholder showed us around and explained some good places locally.

We love Rhosneigr, the beaches are so beautiful and the cafes are friendly and charming.

We will definitely book again.

Amazing Family Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had the most amazing time at Christ Church. On arrival Lynne showed us around and made sure we were happy with everything. The kids could not believe that we were staying in an actual church. The pipe organ made a beautiful sound. My husband liked playing that as the kids liked playing table football. The house had everything that we needed and was clean and tidy on arrival.

The beach was really close and we loved visiting the local cafes for breakfast and lunch. In the evenings we would return to the church for our dinner.

It was lovely taking an evening stroll on the beach, then relaxing as a family in the church.

An amazing family holiday.

In need of some TLC

  • 2 of 5

The property, I imagine, was amazing when it was renovated but is now looking tired and in need of some minor attention to cosmetics. In addition, improvements in hygiene levels between rentals would greatly benefit this unique building.

On arrival the first task for me was to put some food items in the fridge, however it smelled awful and had food remnants inside the food drawers. So the first part of my holiday was to clean the fridge out before placing any items in there. The kids wanted to used the water chiller which was integrated into the fridge but because of the hygiene standard I checked the container that dispenses the water first, unfortunately there was some black mold at the exit hole so I told the kids not to use it. Whilst the kitchen was very well equipped some of the utensils hanging up were dirty and there was an unwashed tumbler in the cupboard. There was old hard lumpy coffee in a container but no sugar or tea. The spiral staircase leading up to the mezzanine area had a layer of dust on together with a couple of toe nail clippings. The steps leading up to the Alter area had fluff on as did the rug. The TV plug was loose so again told the kids not to touch just incase of danger.

The wetroom ensuite was a disappointment, very tired looking, a family of spiders settled in the high roof and in the lower corners or the shower area. The floor coming away from the wall in one section and all the metal accessories like soap holder, loo roll holder were rusty. We never used the room. The main bathroom was nice overall , just one issue with the tap being very loose and fragile so we had to turn it gently. The tiled floor had sand on it. Consequently the first part of the holiday was spent cleaning and polishing. I informed the owner and he quickly responded offering for the cleaner to come around and clean again, but I declined as I had done what I felt was essential. A further blow to this holiday was the keyholder complaining about the dog mess in the back yard on the Thursday stating his wife was happy to clean but would not be happy to pick up poop. Our 3 dogs mess several times a day and I admit it was not the first job of the day! We left a day early because this just topped off what was an already disappointing holiday, and of course ensured all dog mess was cleared. I felt judged, and distressed which the kids picked up on and cried with me. Not a great holiday but Rhosneigr beaches are fab. The area is well worth a visit.

Owner's Response: Hi Vicky, Thank you for your comments, I am happy to discuss them and take genuine criticism to make further improvements. When you contacted me, I immediately offered for the cleaner to attend site to ensure the property was to your personal satisfaction. My cleaners reported substantial dog waste that was left after your stay. It was not cleaned by you or your family. That is really disappointing. I hope you find alternative accommodation next time. As following the amount of waste and scratching to furnishings and the door, we are no longer accepting dogs. Kind regards Dave

Amazing place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic place to stay. Perfect for a family or as we were, three couples with dogs. Close to the beach for some fantastic walks. Everything you would need is in the property and the underfloor heating is wonderful. Lots of space to rub the dogs down after a good walk so they are not getting the floors dirty. Would recommend to anyone.

A unique holiday home

  • 5 of 5

The property is a beautiful conversion, finished to a very standard. The retained features (such as the working pipe organ) allude to the building's heritage, but it has all the mod cons. The beach is on the doorstep and the village is a short walk, with everything you need. Sandy's is a lovely place to eat. I'd recommend this holiday home to anyone.

Christ Church is located in the village of Rhosneigr. It is within easy walking distance of the three distinct beach areas in Rhosneigr, the main family beach, with beautiful golden sands, the boating/fishing area with rocky outcrops and the activity beach with kite surfing and windsurfing.

Less than one mile from Christ Church is Anglesey Golf Course and less than 5 miles is the Anglesey Race Circuit and for those who like watching RAF aircraft take to the skies the nearby air base provides for this.

Anglesey in many ways is like the place time forgot. There are many rural lanes and beach walks to take part in. The lanes make for great cycling routes to nearby towns of Beaumaris, Amlwch and Trearddur Bay. The South coast of the Island of Anglesey has some great bays and beaches, try Aberffraw and Cymyran.

There are some lovely cafes to rest after a walk along the beach and there are local country pubs to have a super Sunday lunch nearby golf course
