Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Las Olas - Canopy Vista

Master bedrm up, studio bedrm w/ queen & twin below, tent platform,

Rent this beautiful 2011-custom built house with pool/spa, flower gardens, wifi and great cell phone reception. The house has air conditioning in the bedrooms.

It is located in the Rain Forest Preserve just above the town of Dominical. The house is just up the hillside from the famous Dominical surf beach and has easy access to shopping, restaurants, surfing and surf lessons. You may pre-arrange with the owner and caretaker for catered meals. Take the short hike to you very own private waterfall/pool within the Preserve.

This amazing house has huge views of the 1000-acre Rain Forrest canopy from either the wraparound deck or the adjacent large yoga deck. Tucans come to visit most mornings as you lounge in the pool. Have breakfast on the upper deck as you listen to the jungle awakening and see the butterflies and other wildlife come awake. Take a 5-minute walk from the house and you will arrive at the community-owned covered “mirador”. This beautiful covered deck has tables and chairs where you can sit and watch the sun go down, enjoy the big ocean views, and be on the lookout for migrating humpback wales.

It is simple to book tours and adventures. For example, you may wish to go horseback riding on the beach, try snorkeling at Canyo Island, do a zipline tour at Hacienda Baru, visit the big amazing Nayuaca Waterfalls, go scuba diving in the Osa, see live reptiles get fed at Reptilandia, try paragliding or do a bird watching tour. The owner is happy to send you a customized set of recommendations.

This house is perfect for 2 couples to share as the upper and lower levels have separate entrances and bathrooms. Families with teens may request set up of the luxury tent to provide a 3rd living space. Upper & lower levels have setups for movies songs in the IMAC computer and AppleTV

The house is generally not well suited for young children or toddlers due to the layout. The house has 1 master bedroom upstairs with bath, full kitchen, and deck. The downstairs is accessible by the outside staircase and has a bedroom with1 queen and 1 single bed, private bath and it’s own kitchenette area with microwave, 2-burner range-top & cooler.

We do recommend anyone who stays at Canopy Vista have a 4-wheel drive vehicle or take a 4-wd taxi ride up to the house due to the steep terrain.

About Kathleen Chiras

I fell so in love with this country that I mortgaged my house here in Colorado to buy the land at the Rainforest Preserve in 2006, and then I also bought a reforestation farm about 30 min. from the Preserve. I built the house there in December 2011.

Kathleen Chiras purchased this house in 2006

Why Kathleen Chiras chose Puntarenas

Awake to the sounds of the jungle and see the Tucans fly into 'Tucan tree' right in front of your eyes shortly after dawn. See the top of the canopy and animals like the Pizotes or white faced monkeys wondering around below.

Canopy Vista is up the mountain 6 switchbacks, and this affords greater safety away from the public beach, and is only a 15-20 minute walk or a 5 minute drive down to the famous Dominical surf beach.

There are lots of places to walk within the Preserve, including the big ocean overlook ('the Miradore'), and our community orchard, and a waterfall.

The house has incredible views of the Preserve on 3 sides and a small view of the ocean. The house is new as of 2011, has lots of windows and a great ocean breeze.

Bedrooms can be air conditioned individually. High speed internet available at the house, and IMAC computer may be checked out. The computer also has lots of movies and music. There is also a small TV monitor with Apple TV in the downstairs room.

What makes this house unique

Easy access to the beach, the town of Dominical, and all of the local attractions. Easy to bird-watch or see butterflies right from the house. Paraglide launchplace nearby. Big tent available for extra guests or teens 13 or above. Pool, Wifi, air conditioning.

The Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay here was absolutely lovely! The house is right in the middle of the jungle which makes you feel like you're in a tropical paradise. The views are stunningly beautiful and the house itself is very nice. The location is great because you're tucked away in the jungle, which gives you a great sense of privacy. At the same time, you're minutes away from the beach, as well as the town, so you don't have to go out of your way to get anywhere. There's a great kitchen area that was a lot of fun to cook in and the wrap around balcony is incredible! I think the balcony and views were two of our most favorite things about staying here. We saw so many colorful birds and butterflies outside in the front yard which was awesome. We even saw a sloth down the road on one of our walks to a nearby waterfall. There's a tent platform on the property that you can camp out in which was really cool and there's a downstairs room with two beds that makes it really easy to travel with friends and family. It was so nice to be able to just walk outside and have so many great trails for walking and hiking. It was also nice to be conveniently near the beach and all of the town's restaurants and stores. This was honestly the best vacation I have ever had. Costa Rica is a beautiful place and this house was the perfect home during our stay. If I ever get another chance to visit Costa Rica, I will definitely choose to stay at this wonderful vacation rental again.

Pura Vida! :)

Very nice house

  • 5 of 5

While we were initially concerned about the steep drive to the house, once you drive it a couple of times it's not bad. Would recommend a smaller SUV instead of the full size as some of the corners are too tight for a long vehicle. The house was very nice however air conditioning is only available in the bedrooms. The common living area upstairs has screens that do allow ants and gnats to get in. It was not a huge issue just don't leave trash and food out. The caretaker was wonderful. One night there was a storm and some trees were down in the road. Edwin was out clearing the road for us before 6am!! One thing to note is that the sun sets at 6pm. We were back in each night before the sun sets which left for long evenings without a TV so be prepared. Overall I would go back to this property and would recommend as a very quite secluded retreat.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback and 5*s. Yes, it gets dark early in the tropics. You may have been unaware that we have an Imac at the house that is loaded with movies & music for those long evenings in Costa Rica. Also, many people just bring their own mobile devices, these days, or cruise the net using the house wifi. Would love to have you back! The owner

Beautiful and isolated.

  • 5 of 5

We came to Costa Rica for adventure, and we found it! The house fit our vacation needs perfectly. We wanted to stay away from resorts and tourists, but still be close to a lot of the activities we wanted to do, e.g., surfing, hiking, ziplining, cliff-jumping. From the toucans in the 'toucan tree' just off the deck to the hiking trail into the jungle to the howler monkeys' bone-chilling cries to the surf at Dominical and Dominicalito, we had it all. The house was beautiful and much more modern than I expected. The ceiling fans were refreshing and the furniture/beds were comfortable. Best of all, we felt totally isolated on the property. No noise and no traffic! We would absolutely stay here again!

Uniquely relaxing

  • 5 of 5

The canopy vista is like no other house I've ever stayed. Nothing compares to waking up and having coffee with Tucans and hummingbirds flying past your window. The views you get are unparalleled to anything I've ever seen! You really are in the middle of the Rain forest. Kathleen was nothing but helpful the entire trip! She made sure we had Edwin to help us find the house and directed us to the nearby markets perfectly. I would recommend this stay to anyone looking to get away from it all and really get the feel of the Costa Rican rain forest! The only negative thing I have to say is that we couldn't figure out how to turn on the oven or the computers to watch a movie. But the stove had a grill plate so we used that instead!

Beautiful home in rain forest

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I have spent a great deal of time in Costa Rica and this stretch of the central Pacific coast is our favorite part of the country.

We spent two weeks at Canopy Vista while we were exploring the area to relocate to ourselves.

The location of the house is amazing.

We had regular visits from toucans, agoutis, frogs, parrots, lizards and every other imaginable rain forest creature.

That is why we come to Costa Rica.

The house itself has everything you would need. We cooked most of our meals there. The A/C in the bedroom makes it comfortable even on hot nights.

Wifi w/excellent speed.

Small pool is perfect for cooling off on hot days.

Wrap around deck is perfect for the evenings and views.

Caretaker Edwin is exceptionally helpful and friendly -especially if you speak Spanish

We will be returning ourselves this summer and hope this home is available for another stay.

Amazing honeymoon!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just returned from staying at the Canopy Vista for a little over 2 weeks for our honeymoon. What a perfect setting! The house is located on the top of a mountain, completely surrounded by the beautiful rainforest. We spent so much time lounging in the pool and sitting on the balcony just taking in the stunning surroundings, spotting all kinds of birds (a family of toucans came out most mornings to sit on the tree in front of the balcony), and listening to the howler monkeys in the distance. We really enjoyed the surfer town of Dominical, very young crowd and lots of shops and restaurants. We went on 2 fishing trips where we caught lots of mahi mahi and two large sail fish! Also had the most amazing time horseback riding to Nauaka waterfalls and going on an AVT trip with Diamante Verde Tours. For restaurants I would have to recommend Por Que No (the ceviche and mojitos kept us coming back!) & Cafe ensueno for breakfast or lunch (huge portions and everything we tried was SO good especially the burgers and pancakes).

The house is on a large mountain which was daunting at first (DEFINITELY rent a four wheel drive car) but we quickly got use to it! Also the bedroom has air conditioning which we were very appreciative of at night when we went to bed. One of our favorite parts about the house was having so many fruit trees on the property. Most days we ate something from the yard whether it be a coconut, papaya, or used a lime for our drinks.

Truly a perfect honeymoon in our eyes, couldn't be happier!

Location

Car: necessary

House on the edge of the Rainforest Preserve with pool/spa, air conditioning in bedrooms and optional 2-room Luxury Tent on the adjacent viewing platform. Internet available at the house. Located within the Rain Forest Preserve on

a private 5 acres lot. Straight down Mango Manor road and across the Costanera highway you will find the famous Dominical surf beach. There is a waterfall within the Preserve and I will help you locate many hidden waterfall jewels in the area. GREAT house for one or two families with teenage kids to enjoy as there are 3 distinct living spaces: upstairs, downstairs & the tent platform. It is a small house, but packs a lot of privacy.

The ocean and great surf beach of Dominical are just a 15 minute walk down the hill. This amazing new house and tent platform has easy access to all of the amenities offered by the southern zone: great wildlife, the beach, fantastic restaurants, day excursions.

30 foot waterfall with pool below within walking distance. Special breakfast 'Mirador' overlooking the big Pacific just a 5 minute walk away.

A yoga retreat center is located within the Rainforest Preserve. Please check for retreat dates.
