Year-round country getaway privately situated on over 2 acres of woodland and open fields with a meandering stream and mature cottage garden. Perfect spot for the outdoor enthusiast, culture-seeker or those looking to get away from it all and just relax.
The great room with vaulted ceiling, wideboard pine floors and wood-burning stone fireplace has a wall of glass doors that opens to the deck with views of surrounding countryside -- this is the gathering area and the place to be if you are cooking, eating or just hanging out talking, listening to music or watching a movie. The kitchen contains everything you could possibly want for preparing gourmet meals and hardy country breakfasts. Basic spices, condiments and accoutrements provided. The dining table comfortably seats six. In the wintertime, a blazing fire is a must and we use it to toast marshmallows for smores and head out to cross-country ski on the property.
In summertime, the activity shifts outdoors to one of the two large decks, the lawn, garden and expansive woods.
Comfortably accommodates UP TO 6 people. The sun-filled master suite with queen-sized bed and country pine furniture, has its own attached full bath and glass sliding doors that open to a newly built large deck surrounded by lawn and gardens. A large second bedroom with two twin beds and a third bedroom with a twin trundle bed (twin bed expands to be a king or two separate twin beds) share a full hallway bath.
Privately situated within 30 minutes of most attractions in the Hudson Valley, the Catskills, and the Berkshires. Fifteen minutes from Rhinebeck Center. Fifteen minites from Bard College. Fifteen minutes from Lake Tagkanic State Park. 30 minutes to Poughkeepsie and Hudson.
I'm from NYC, but always loved going away to summer camp as a kid. What I've tried to re-create here is what I would call the experience of 'getting away'. An easy-care country house with lots of outdoor living space, gardens, wooded area and a babbling brook. And indoors a great room with fireplace and lots of seating for a group to relax.
Suzanne purchased this house in 2000
I must have looked at over 40 properties and this house had the bones of my perfect "not so big house" and it was located in the country with plenty of privacy but close enough to town and basic amenities like great restaurants, groceries, movies/the arts.
People tell me that it's cozy and that they love the private setting in the woods and the opportunity to walk around the babbling brook. And the proximity to every thing you could possibly want to visit.
just wanted to let you know we had a wonderful time in NY, thanks in large part to our stay in your lovely home. It was so peaceful and relaxing to be there. I am so happy that I found your listing and that it all worked out.
A beautiful house, tastefully furnished on a large, wooded lot, this property is ideal for a comfortable vacation. The kitchen and dining areas have high-quality equipment with everything one might want. The three bedrooms have comfortable beds and the living room and deck have plenty of seating indoors and out. The excellent photos were an accurate record of the lovely property. The location is convenient to the Taconic Parkway and is only about 15 minutes from the town of Red Hook which has an excellent super market, Hannaford's, flower and fruit stands, restaurants, is close to Bard College with its superb Performing Arts Center and only an hour from Tanglewood.
Thus house was perfect for our needs! Just right in every way...
Lovely home and property. The wrap around deck was great for relaxing. We even saw a mama deer and her doe walk through. Would surely go back!
Cozy, quiet, woodsy, and homey---with wireless connections, satellite tv and a washer/dryer. We had all we needed.
We love this place. The house is clean and comfortable. The spectacular decks are all around the house and let us enjoy the peace and quiet, and watch the birds! The house also has a beautiful native plant garden. What a wonderful break from Brooklyn!
Four of us stayed during the Rhinebeck Sheep and Wool Festival. We thoroughly enjoyed the house. The kitchen had all we needed and the sleeping areas were comfortable as well. My friends were quite happy with me for finding the perfect home for a fall getaway.
