Wonderful week with friends at the Manoir in Balon!
This was the perfect retreat for us 8 friends to spend a week in the heart of Burgundy. Many sights/locations within easy day-trip distance. Accommodations were great. The kitchen was great and well stocked with utensils, pots, pans, etc. We cooked a lot. The place was gorgeous and we enjoyed it immensely. Unfortunately the weather did not allow us to enjoy the pool and outside seatings areas much, but they would have been great.
Excellent communication and hospitality from the owners, Mike and Hiroko. They were very helpful if required and gave lots of varied recommendations to enjoy whilst visiting the area. Booking in and out was also extremely straightforward and relaxed.
The house is in a good location for exploring vineyards and sight seeing.
It is also a perfect place to relax whether in the house, around the pool or in the large garden. There are also plenty of dining or seating areas in the sun or shade.
Our extended family group of 8 adults had a really lovely stay.
Family Holiday In Balon
Beautiful old house with loads of country charm. Very spacious and relaxed. The owners were delightful and made us lunch one day.
Wonderfully peaceful holiday
We spent two wonderful weeks at Manoir in July, the weather was perfect and the location stunning. The house has everything you could need, we had more than enough room for our large family. The kitchen provided all the equipment we needed for family cooking and there are many places to eat both inside and out depending on the time of day and heat. The pool is lovely and kept clean by Mike who was always on hand if we needed anything. Beds are super comfortable (we had a memory foam mattress) and there is plenty of wardrobe space. Highly recommend to anyone wishing to explore this area of Burgundy, 10 minute drive into Nuit St Georges and 20 minutes to Beaune. Property is in a small 'hamlet' surrounded by fields, very quiet and relaxing.
Spacious and beautiful.
Nice and spacious house with a beautiful garden. Michael is a very welcoming and polite host. Although the hosts lived in their own part associated with the rental section, there was no noticeable presence. They had their own part at the back of the house guarded from the rental unit. House is placed in a small village 5 minutes drive from Nuits St. George.
Perfect located within a short drive from all the best wine production in the world! The minus is that the place carries some neglected maintenance. Leakage from shower on main floor, so this child not be used. Also a leak from toilet on ground floor., but Michael fixed it tje same day. The kitchen was also not cleaned satisfactorily before arrival. Coffee maker, boilers and oven with fan had to be cleaned and we had to go to the purchase of various cleaning items. But all in all, we are happy with the house and the hosts. Would definitely recommend the place most warmly.
Summer in the Manoir
The house and grounds were just as described, very tranquil and spacious and the pool was very clean. Our hosts were ideal, there if needed but otherwise left us on our own. The local village, Nuits St Georges (8mins by car), had several good restaurants and Beaune (20mins) was beautiful with a wide variety of restaurants.
A thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing two week stay.
' Manoir' has a quiet village location close to the vast forest of Citeau with woodland trails just a few minutes walk from the front door. The vineyards of the Nuits and Cote d'Or lie to the west. A recommended boulanger visits most mornings while supermarket shopping is a short 5 minute drive. The hypermarkets and malls of Dijon are only 20 minutes north while 20 minutes to the south is the historic wine capital of Beaune with its picturesque streets, antique shops, museums and restaurants. Attractions in the immediate area include Clos de Vougeot ( the most popular visitor site in the region) and the Domaines of Romanee Conti ( the most expensive wine in the world). A few minutes away at Nuits St Georges are the Cassisium ( museum and tasting centre for cassis ) and the Imaginarium ( winery visit and tasting centre for cremant , the local champagne . And of course the villages and winemakers of the newly listed World Heritage site are located on the Route de Grands Cru from Dijon to south of Beaune .There are several Michelin starred restaurants within easy access and a vast choice of more affordable places to suit every budget. We are happy to make recommendations for our guests.
