About Laurie Punches

My name is Laurie.

I am an author, artist, muscian and mom.

The log cabin is my get-away where I write my books and movies. Its my refuge, my home away from home and my heart.

As a child, I saved a scrapbook of pictures of my dream home...

and the first moment I saw our cabin, I knew this was IT!

The smell of pines and being a minute stroll to the beach is my favorite part of being in Tahoe.

My desire is to share a yesteryear, nostalgic, homestead restored with all the fascinations of modern comfort without compromising its ambiance has come true. The hand-made, authentic, cozy log cabin duplex, boasts of spaciousness, yet intimate for two which meets my needs for alone time to create and family time to build memories. I have been coming to this log cabin for over 20 years and it still holds me captive with it's beauty.

Dreamt and believed all my life that someday I would live in a log cabin up in the mountains on a lake. Dream came realized more than vividly true, I feel BLISSFUL! :)))

Laurie Punches purchased this cabin in 1992

Why Laurie Punches chose South Lake Tahoe

It is everything I dreamt of.

An authentic, home-made mountain cabin in the pines...

a few steps from the sandy beach,

yet near enough to the city and all its activities, that I can be away from the noise and hustle and bustle, but skiing, shopping, gambling within 5 minutes.

Hand-made of the most beautiful trees from Canada.

Original owner owned the original Tahoe wood mill, and hand made all the panneling, roof, doors and details. It took 5 years to build, while a whole subdivision in the neighborhood was built. The quality and uniqueness of everything about this cabin is beyond my wildest imagination. I feel swept up in a fairytale everytime I stay, and am sad to leave... and can't wait to get back!

What makes this cabin unique

seriously? EVERYTHING!!!!

The full cabin experience. The rock floors, shag carpets, granite counters, rock hewn sinks, lodge pole banisters, huge log beams and vaulted ceilings make the cabin ageless, yet pampering.

Great cozy place close to the lake

  • 4 of 5

We loved our stay at this cabin. It is very cozy, unique and wonderfully built. The only thing I would like to point out is that the heating in the first floor is not good as it doesn't heat up.

Owner's Response: So glad you loved your stay. Its been a snowy, chilly winter. I am sorry you felt upstairs was warmer than down stairs. The thermostat is at the top of the stairs, because the front door lets heat out. The cabin A-frame lends a tall ceiling upstairs, where heat rises, but I have not been told the downstairs was too cool :( Did you adjust the thermostat for your comfort or the wood burning stove? Some find it too warm. Interesting.

Lovely authentic log cabin - perfect for skiing

  • 4 of 5

A little confusion initially as to which log cabin we were booked into but it all was sorted quickly. The cabin itself was lovely and it was the perfect setting for our skiing holiday. Would have liked a few instructions for the dishwasher and the wood burner. Overall would love to return for another stay and would recommend this property to anyone.

Eclectic log cabin in the heart of South Lake Tahoe

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our two night stay at Laurie's cabin. We were on #2 and the yard was a perfect place to play, make snow angels & snow man with the kids. Also, the lake is about two blocks away with a small playground where the kids loved to hang out as well. The insides are great with lots of room for the whole family to hang out together. The renovated kitchen opening up to the living & dining room was perfect to have conversations while lunch/dinner was being prepared. The rooms upstairs were spacious & had a rustic feel. Would love to come back in all seasons - thank you Laurie & special thanks to Melody for preparing the home before we arrived

Owner's Response: Your gratefulness and attention to the endearing details of the cabin as well as the pragmatic aspects is special! I raised my kids, going to that playground at the nearby beach ... daily. Snowmen and angels in the yard are precious memories that bring me a smile:)

Definitely staying here again!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at this beautiful cabin for thanksgiving and absolutely loved it! The interior was so much bigger than what the pictures made it seem like. When we first arrived it was a little difficult trying to find all the light switches since the cabin has a very dim setting. Once we found all the lamps we got the hang of it and it was no problem. The cabin was very clean and organized and felt very homey. It was extremely helpful seeing all the little instructions throughout the cabin, it answered so many questions and that way I wouldn't have to call the owner for every small thing. I would recommend not wearing really fuzzy socks or going down the carpeted stairs too fast, I accidentally slipped and slid all the way down. I didn't get hurt, and my family mostly found it funny but I definitely did not use those socks again haha. The location of the cabin is near so many things that its perfect for any time of the year. It's walking distance from the gorgeous lake or just a few minutes to drive to Heavenly. We drove over to Emerald Bay and took many breathtaking photos, and also took a snowshoe walking tour with a guide that gave us a wonderful experience and recommended us a few places to eat in the area. We had no problems with the wifi and were able to enjoy some Netflix movies after our daily adventures. Every day we looked forward to come back to cabin after a nice fun and cold day in the snow. We would definitely come back and stay here again, maybe even experience Lake Tahoe in the summer!

Owner's Response: Thank-you for your pleasant review. I needed encouragement after my only 'bad' review as an owner. Solar motion detector lights are enroute to the cabin as many leave the outside light off. Carpet can be slippery on steps though I'd never thought of it... so glad you were able to laugh!

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was as nice as advertised! Two blocks from the beach and just minutes drive away from everything you need or want to do. I highly recommend going to Tahoe and staying at this cabin!

Warm and Cozy log cabin

  • 4 of 5

The property was clean and well maintained and we enjoyed the stay. The layout of the house was perfect. The furniture was perfect for the log cabin feel and had unique touches to it. This cabin had all the stainless steel utensils, gas stove and other amenities which are fairly new. The refrigerator and microwave are all fairly new. I would recommend this property to friends and relatives and I myself would stay again at this place with friends. This time we were only three people in the #2 unit and we ended up using only one bedroom. The activities, attractions and restaurants are close by. We really liked red hut café restaurant. My thai restaurant, Artemis restaurant and Zephyr Cove restaurant was also good. The minor cons we had during the stay - wifi connectivity was almost non-existent (we did not mind that much). The pillows were too soft for us. Shower cap was not present (maybe the listing could clarify shower cap information more clearly).
