Great views and sunsets, lovely pool!!!
We were a group of four who stayed at Avalon January 7 to 21. We had one of our best vacation experiences and hope to return for more next year. Montserrat is a really special island.
We arrived around 9 pm on the ferry from Antigua. We were greeted by Yvette the property manager and Mr Gage who rented us a car. Our trip to the villa in the dark was exciting. We were pleasantly surprised to have beer wine mixers as well as a salad and lasagna dinner waiting for us! As well there was everything we needed to make breakfast the next morning before our first trip to Ram’s, the closest grocery. Please note they are closed from 1 to 3 pm for siesta. There is also a phone # for someone who delivers fresh eggs and chicken. We found a man outside Ram’s who we arranged delivery of fresh veggies like kale lettuce and bok choy. My brother in law and sister like to play chef and sous chef on vacation so we actually never ate out during our stay.
We loved the layout of the house and basically lived outdoor in the living and dining room or lounging around the pool. It was a bit rainy during our stay and there were some mosquitoes and no see ems at night.
Josephine the cleaning lady came twice a week. She was a sweetheart as well as a very thorough person.
We enjoyed feeding the iguanas vegetable scraps and the chickens any other leftovers. We frequently saw an agouti in the garden munching on fallen flower petals and pelicans fishing in the bay.
We got an awesome tour of the exclusion zone from Sunny Lea , visited several beaches and a few nature trails. Be sure to visit The Montserrat National Trust and the botanical garden behind it.
Amazing!! Best Villa we have ever stayed in
Avalon is amazing! We stayed for 1 week from 10/7/17-10/14/17. We could not have been happier. Kate takes such good care of the house. We have stayed at many villas on many different islands and this, by far, was the best villa we have ever stayed in!
Yvette-the lady that takes care of the house, is amazing and checks in through out your entire stay. Our cell phone was not working properly, Yvette picked up the old one and had a new one for us with in an hour. Rosa, the cleaning lady, was amazing. She cleaned the entire house and spent several hours at the house to make sure everything was spotless!!
I truly can not say enough good things about Avalon, but the house is the main reason we will be returning to Montserrat!!
Perfect location with unbeatable views!
We spent a week in Villa Avalon during St Patrick's Week 2017.
Our stay was nothing short of wonderful.
The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was that we had a slight hiccup on checkin, but it was quickly resolved.
The villa is in the perfect location, close to Salem, where a lot of the St Patrick's festivities were. There is also a grocery store very close by, and Olveston House, which was our favourite restaurant for dinner.
It is perfectly appointed, and the bedrooms are well laid out to allow for privacy from one another.
The outdoor living spaces were our favourite places to be. The pool, the view, the comfy furniture, everything was great.
Having stayed on several other Caribbean islands, the lack of AC was a concern to me before arriving. But the Montserrat breezes, combined with fans in the room, meant we slept comfortably in the fresh air each night.
Yvette was available to give us a hand with any questions/concerns we had.
We also loved the resident iguanas and chickens!
If we ever return to Montserrat, Villa Avalon will definitely be our first choice of places to stay!
This was our 1st time to Monserrat. Driving on the left with a right side drive car took some practice but traffic on the island is light. John Gage provided a perfect car and valuable advice on the Island. The Villa is terrific and you could spend all your time just enjoying the views. The fridge came stocked with drinks and snacks to get us through to our 1st trip to the store. The grocery stores are not like anything in the states but have plenty to keep you from going hungry. We actually found a great buy on steaks, although all meats are frozen. Every restaurant was delicious and cheaper than most Caribbean Islands. Some are a little difficult to find and even Google maps had trouble with roads. The ATM's work fine for getting EC with low fees and good exchange rate. The Volcano observatory is a must but be prepared the road is very steep and narrow. A trip to the exclusion zone gives a little insight on the destruction. Connecting through Antigua requires some time since you have to clear customs with forms in triplicate and then go back through security to get to Fly Montserrat. The ferry might be a good option if it's running and you have the time. The people here are incredible. Friendly, considerate, not like any other island we've been too. This is a very relaxing trip and the villa is just the place to spend it. Thanks Kate!
The house is better than advertised. Very well maintained and clean. Truly the best spot on the island! Everyone that works at the house are friendly and helpful. The island is clean and the drinking water is fresh and clean. This is my 32nd island I have stayed at in the Caribbean and Montserrat is one of the friendliest and cleanest. But wherever we went we could not wait to get back to Avalon. My son proposed down at the overlook at sunset, it was a wonderful moment. The second week was just my wife and I. So relaxing we did not want to leave. We stayed in Antigua for a day and a half and it made us realize how clean and friendly Montserrat was in comparison. Antigua was dirty garbage all over more aggressive. We hope to make it back To Montserrat someday soon. It is truly a jewel in the Caribbean. Can't say enough you just need to come see for yourself. We were a party of 4. From the moment we walked in the doors we couldn't believe our eyes. Stunning Caribbean views. The whole home opens up to a wonderful covered patio. Comfortable relaxing furniture to enjoy every sunrise and sunset. Wonderfully clean bedrooms to bathrooms to a well stocked kitchen. Friendliest people on the island. Gorgeous quiet beaches. From Yvette, the property manager to John Gage, who we rented our car from and the sweet Josaphine who cleaned the home, were the most helpful wonderful team. Jay & Charley w the Montserrat Dive Center are extremely pleasant, fun and professional. You must look them up for any underwater adventure.
We had never been to the island, we had such a blast exploring. I highly recommend Montserrat and this lovely home for a wonderful Caribbean adventure.
Very well located and near Old Road beach ,hiking trails , grocery stores , veggie stands, bars and 2 great restaurants
