Hi there future traveler! My name is Elizabeth and I am the Guest Manager here at AvantStay. I've lived and traveled all over the world, so having stayed in many Airbnb's myself I am hyper sensitive to what goes into creating an incredible experience for travelers. My team and I all share a passion for the luxury real estate market, design, and offering a high class service to our guests. We're proud to deliver luxury, boutique home rental experiences at an affordable price. Like everybody else, we value our time with our friends, family, and close colleagues almost more than anything. That's why we're dedicated to making your time with us completely hassle-free. You shouldn't have to worry about broken appliances, sketchy internet, or any other logistical headaches. When your next vacation or retreat is with us, the only thing you need to worry about is enjoying yourself, your friends, and your surroundings. Enjoy yourself. We'll take care of the details.
Why AvantStay chose Van Vorst Park
Located in historic Jersey City, our property is only 10 mins away from downtown Manhattan. It is equipped with all modern amenities needed for your vacation or retreat. Along with what was detailed in the listing you will find silverware, appliances, cookware, and dishes stocked for your convenience. This property is also professionally managed and is cleaned before each stay, including a fresh stock of clean linens, towels, and soaps. The Van Vorst Park neighborhood features many spectacular dining experiences (we recommend Razza and Porta), along with many other fun places to enjoy, including the beautiful park itself. To explore Jersey City further, or quickly hop over to NYC, you’re just a few blocks away from the Grove Street Path Station, which is just a short 10-minute ride to NYC. What’s more, Newark Airport is just a 20-minute drive away, the NJ Light rail is down the street, and the ferry to Manhattan is a 9-minute walk. The entrance to the NJ Turnpike is also nearby. While the neighbourhood is so great you may never want to leave, this is also truly a commuter’s paradise.

Nice accomodations, great location.
Great location and lots of space to spread out. We were a family of 3 generations and there was plenty of room for everyone to enjoy the various levels. The basement level had a storage room with extra frig and washer/dryer + a kid’s table and chairs. This level had two large beds and a small sofa great for our 4 year old, and a nice bathroom with shower. The ground floor had a well-appointed dining room and modern kitchen which was well equipped with coffee maker, waffle iron, plenty of pots and pans and dishes. There were a number of nice spices available as well. The first floor also had a full size bathroom with a tub/shower. The second floor housed a relatively spacious living area with TV (Roku) and a bedroom with a queen bed and sofa. There was an extra sofa in the stair landing on this floor as well. The internet went out a couple times, but a reset and call to the manager had the issue resolved within minutes. The third floor housed the MBR, large shower, and an adorable kids room with a couple of twins; the twins also had extra mattresses stored underneath allowing for 4 small children to share the same room. The top floor had two bedrooms flanking a galley style kitchen (range, sink, small frig). There is a curtain separating one of the bedrooms from the kitchen. All in all, it was a great location, close to the train for getting into NYC and an easy drive to Liberty Island State Park. Off street parking was not available, but it was relatively easy to find parking on opposite sides of the street depending on the street cleaning schedule. There are also several public parking garages about 4 blocks away. Conveniently located near a small park with a playground and an easy walk to several nice restaurants on Newark Ave. The weekly rate is better than individual nights.
This is a large and beautiful brownstone. We rented this for the days leading up to and including our wedding and it worked out very well. We had about 8 adults and 3 children staying there and the house never felt crowded. There is a wine shop within two blocks and many restaurants and shops within 4-6 blocks, as well as a Path train to NYC. My favorite local restaurant was the Kitchen Step, 2 short blocks away. Lots of stairs in the so if you have older guests, you'll want them to sleep in the bedroom on the second floor or the basement.
Nicely decorated spacious property. Host was friendly and easy to communicate with the host. We all had a great time !
Had a good time at the house nice and clean . Had everything that we needed and I would want to book his place again in the future.
Cancelled at the last minute! BEWARE!
We were a group of eleven traveling together to New York (two families with kids and my elderly parents). We booked several months in advance to time our stay with our kids' spring break from school. One week before leaving, however, I received an email saying that our stay was cancelled "per owner's request." The owners didn't bother to call; they offered no explanation for the cancellation. We had to scramble to find accommodations for all eleven of us at the last minute. Although we did manage to find three separate places to stay in New York City through AirBnB, we obviously couldn't stay together, it ended up being much more expensive, and we had to eat the cost of several things we had planned on the assumption we'd be staying in New Jersey (like tickets to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island departing from Jersey City). When I asked one of the property managers if they could help us find another comparable rental in Jersey City, that person's (verbatim) response was, "I'm sorry. I don't have as much time to dedicate to this as I would like. I apologize for the inconvenience, but my hands are tied on the matter..." The manager suggested one other supposedly "comparable" rental. It was a smaller place in Flatbush, and from the pictures you could tell it was not nearly the same quality or accessibility. I find it outrageous that a VROB owner can cancel at the last minute without offering any reason and with impunity. If you are planning to rent from these owners, beware. They could do the same to you.
It was very saddening to read this review as we constantly strive to provide a high level of service for every guest. As with all reservations we were extremely accommodating from the start to guarantee a memorable experience, but unfortunately after our last guests left the home in complete disarray we were forced to help find this guest alternative accommodations.
Cancelling on a guest last minute is something we do not take lightly and is incredibly rare. Only after EVERY POSSIBLE alternate is explored will we reach out to our guests in hopes of working with them to find another home. This situation was no different and the publishing of this review was incredibly disappointing. Bottom line is we will never deliver a home that is not ready. Its become very clear that the guest is taking advantage of the situation in hopes of making a profit off of us. We will not allow that to happen.
What’s more, we notified the guest over a week in advance of their stay, not a couple of days as was claimed in this review.
In addition, the guest states we were not helpful in our efforts to find them another home, our team spent the bulk of the day reaching out to our friends and colleagues nearby to provide them a host of options.
Unfortunately, there was no way knowing that the home would need to undergo repairs leading up to their stay or how long that might take, however, we can (and did) have the right processes in place to help them the best we possibly could.
We do not want potential guests to fear a last minute cancellation as this was a rare and unforeseeable circumstance. Our company is about the people, not the bottom line, and it breaks our heart to have to cancel a reservation. The guests' experience is always our top priority and had this guests had the chance to stay with us, I can guarantee the review would have read much differently.
Great Location and Great for a Large Working Group
We rented this space for a 6 person work group on a team retreat and it was perfect. Each person had their own room and there was plenty of space for cooking, eating and team discussions and exercises. There were some small quirks (the main front door seemed to be out of commission, the kitchen was on the lower floor of the house) but those quirks in no way affected the positive experience we had with the house. The pictures absolutely represent the house and the location was truly amazing. Very close to the public transportation (maybe a 7 min walk from the train to the house) and the restaurants around the house were perfect and various (nice variety). We could have used a larger grocery store but the small corner stores were still great for snacks like cheese, crackers, olives, bread, milk, etc. We did not get a chance to use the backyard but we would have definitely taken advantage of it if we were not in the middle of winter.
The house was extremely clean and the kitchen was well stocked with tons of great cookware and stylish serving-ware. We would absolutely stay here again and would recommend it for other groups planning retreats or family gatherings.
Thank you the great response Uchenna. Please stay with us again in the future!
