Traditional style apartment in Arles, good location

  • 4 of 5

The host, Alban, was quite welcoming and waited at the house to meet us (even though we were lost at first and a bit late because of that). He gave us good information about what was nearby, and the best place to park. He was easily available during our stay when we had questions. The house was clean and there were plenty of towels and fresh linens.

The house is very old, a stone house, that has been restored and remodelled. The bedrooms were lovely, each with its own bathroom, and there was plenty of hot water. The pictures on the website can be a bit confusing because two different properties are shown, and the pictures are mixed together. For instance, we thought this house had a living room separate from the kitchen because of the pictures, but it doesn't. The heat worked well, which was good, because we stayed in Arles in late winter/early spring and the nights were very cool. However, we found it was necessary to keep the windows open a bit because of the indoor air quality. This house smells very strongly of dampness (wet limestone?) and sewer gas, especially if you open the cupboard under the sink in the kitchen for any reason. Maybe this was just because it was winter, but it was the one down side to staying here. On the up side, it was close to historic monuments, the market, and everything we wanted to see, so excellent location.

The neighbourhood felt safe, and it was easy to get daily needs with a small bakery nearby, and stores within easy walking distance.

Fun visit, good place to stay. Bon expérience.

I would stay here again.

One reviewer said the stairs are not for the faint of heart. The stairs are awesome. Steep, yes. Stone, yes. Narrow, yes. That's what you expect in an old house like this. It is well-renovated, and comfortable.

We have two young boys so we all stayed on the upper floors so they would not have to navigate the stairs at night. We did not even use the middle floor bedroom; another small family or couple could have stayed with us.

The main floor is a bit tight, but manageable. Wi-Fi provided. No TV.

Nearby are two boulangeries and a take-out pizza place. Also easy access to plenty of restaurants.

On Friday nights, be careful about parking as the marché is along the nearby avenue under the trees on Saturday. But there is ample other parking nearby. it's a good marché, with trinkets as well as all the food you'd want to find.

Most of the historic parts of Arles are within walking distance for a 3-year-old. Also easy to get to Nimes, Avignon, Les-Baux-en-Provence, etc by car.

Enjoy your stay!

House of Eloise Stay (two coulpes)

  • 3 of 5

The House of Eloise was just one of our average stays in France. The bedrooms and bathrooms were very clean, however the kitchen appeared not inviting to cook in. There were a few major things wrong with the unit: Internet did not work for our 3 day visit, washing machine was broken our entire three day visit, and the second floor shower handle was broken the entire 3 day visit - you had to manually hold the hand held shower head over your head. The owner did offer to wash and dry our clothes while we were there and the service was wonderful. We would rent hear again if the three items discussed were fixed. I would say the stone stairs in this ancient house are NOT for the faint of heart.

schöne Tage in Arles

  • 4 of 5
