The Neighborhood and Beach: The villa is at the sea front of a quiet, lonely and safe residential area with about 10 family houses surrounded by a clean and fine beach and a beautiful landscape of pine and eucalyptus woods, all within a littoral Nature reserve with plenty of birds, some rabbits and chameleons.
The beaches are truly breathtaking with whiter and finer sands than their Mediterranean counterparts. The beaches are typically framed by sand dunes and pine trees creating natural landscapes. Here, the Atlantic Ocean is clean and its beaches, 40 metres wide on average, are a lot wider than most beaches on the other coasts of Spain. The gentle slope of the ocean floor and the sand banks just off the coast ensure that the sea is always calm and safe to swim in along the whole beach with just gentle surf and never any big and dangerous waves. Size of beach & the Nature reserve ensure that there is plenty of space on sand to enjoy sunbathing, beach sports & walks.
TV satellite, Gastronomy and Transport: TV Satellite: The villa is wired for TV satellite reception providing a number of international channels.
Gastronomy: The rich gastronomy of the area is mainly based on wide variety of seafood (tuna, sea bass, gilthead, mussels, prawns, lobsters, etc), which are caught daily and pork products such as Iberian meat, ham, sausages.
Transport: Connected by toll-free highways with Isla Cristina, the closest international airports with car hire facilities are in Portugal Faro, in Spain Sevilla, Jerez and Malaga (Costa del Sol) at 30 min, 1 h 15 min, 2 hours and 3 h, respectively. Besides airlines, public transport includes express direct buses to/from Huelva, Seville, Madrid, etc, high velocity trains to/from Seville, Madrid, etc.
Restarurants, cafes and supermarkets: Many restaurants in the area. Specialities are fresh sea fish, mussels, prawns, lobsters, etc and Iberian meat, ham and sausages. Not expensive to dine out.
Owners favourites: 1) A beach hut cafe and restaurant at the site named Casita Azul (200 metres along beach). The friendly Manolo & his family cook and serve excelent quality lunch, dinner and coffee and the sea front is just wonderful. 2) Restaurant Cacheron (good & cheap) & El Estudiante (Extremadura St.) and 3) La Gola, the las three at Isla Cristina.
Try breakfast of coffee with churros (long pancake sticks) at Gran Via and other cafes in España street in Isla Cristina.
Open market and supermarkets:
Isla Cristina has a market with a great offer of open sea fish, meat, fresh fruit and vegetables. Well supplied supermarkets in town are Eroski, Dia, Lidl and Jamon.
Furthermore, in Isla Antilla resort, Antilla town (3-5 km) there are commercial centres, golf courses, country clubs, shops, supermarkets, cinemas, restaurants.
Email sent by Susan, Stephen & Jacke who rented the villa between 27th December 2004 and 3th January 2005:
Dear Carmen & Manuel, we arrived home safely yesterday after a lovely week's break. We enjoyed staying
in your villa, the peace & quiet and the birdlife. The weather did improve and it was lovely to have clear blue skies and sunshine everyday.
We visited the beach every morning and made some short excursions in the afternoons & were lucky to watch flamingoes on New Year's Eve.
We particularly enjoyed the Restaurant El Estudiante in Isla Christina which was very friendly and served excellent food. We also enjoyed a couple of visits to the Parador at Ayamonte for a coffee in a relaxed atmosphere & the superb views.
Thanks again for your assistance and also to Rosario & her husband. It was lovely to meet you all.
With all good wishes for 2005.
Susan, Stephen & Jack.
Dear Carmen and Manuel,
Thankyou so much for renting your villa to us. We had a wonderful holiday and thoroughly enjoyed staying there. The villa was lovely, it was very well equipped and we had plenty of space. Our children Isaac and Freya loved playing outside and Isaac was especially pleased with the table tennis table as he really enjoys playing that. We had glorious weather every day of our two weeks there and spent lots of time on the beach. It was perfect for us to be so close to the beach as we could go there so easily with the children. The beach was wonderful, we swam every day and enjoyed watching all the kite surfers.
We visited lots of local restaurants and ate gorgeous fish and seafood; we really liked the Chiringuito just along the beach and had lots of long lazy lunches there! We also visited Portugal from Ayamonte and had a lovely day there. Isaac and Freya loved the boat trip. We enjoyed visiting Ayamonte in the evenings as we found some great Tapas bars there, Freya adores squid and she ate that everywhere we went! As you can imagine we also visited lots of heladerias! Isaac and Freya were very happy with all the different ice creams they tried.
We all felt very relaxed and could happily have stayed there a few more weeks, we really didn’t want to return to the UK! The summer has been dreadful over here, lots of rain and cold. Anyway, thankyou once again for the rental of your villa, it was a very great pleasure to stay there for two weeks in August 2008.
We hope you are well and get to enjoy some time there yourselves very soon.
With very best wishes,
Elsa, Steve, Isaac and Freya.
It was a great experience, especially when it comes to nature, lonesome beaches in the morning and spanish hospitality.
Local people were very friendly, warm harded and open minded. And at our service when needed. Many thanks from my family and myself to Carmen and Manuel for that change of experience and culture, including Juan who was of great help for all kind of support.
The Villa itself with our 3 kids (1 + 5 +12) and grandma was the appropriate environment which met our requirements in full during our 3 week-stay. We were leaving with a "crying" hard back to Germany.....
We will come back again in 2012.
We visited in mid-September and really loved this place. Manuel and Carmen were extremely helpful in resolving any issues - even arranging a taxi from the airport - and the house is lovely: right on the beach, 600 m through pine forest dunes to a little beach cafe/restaurant (open only weekends out of season) and just over 1 mile along a forested path to the town.
The villa is more spacious than the pictures make it seem, and with huge roof terrace and shared courtyard it never feels cramped (even with 2 young children!). The front door opens onto the dunes with a path directly onto the beach, and the laundry and outdoor shower area are great.
The beach is stunning - miles and miles of perfect sandcastle sand backed by pine trees and dunes, with beach cafe's every km or so. The sea ranges from fun waves to flat as a pond and we had no worries about the children. In mid-September we had sunshine every day except 1 (in 2 weeks) and were on the beach till 6pm most days.
Isla Cristina is well equipped (although UK visitors should remember the siesta opening times for shopping) and full of cafe's, restaurants etc. We hired bikes and cycled in, there are lots of good cycle paths. The nearside of the town has ice cream shops and a couple of supermarkets; the furthest end has the main streets - very beautiful churches and buildings.
We'd love to go back and would recommend it to anyone who likes the beach and is looking for a quiet place to visit.
We had a wonderful time with our kids (9 and 6 years) and we were very surprised how warm it was at the time end of October - we went swimming every day (-1) and could not even get our kids out of the water in the evening. The idea to count the stars from top of the roof (excellent view in the late evening!) worked well. The location is great, the beach is very clean, the house had everything you need including very nice instructions by the owner and ideas what to do in and around the area.
The villa was well equipped and, if you are a beach lover, could not be better located; literally walk out of the front door on to the dunes and straight down to one of the best beaches in the area.
Easy driving from here in to portugal in one direction, and good for day trips to Seville, or Jerez in the other.
Local restaurants are generally of a very high standard with excellent seafood - check out the local fish market for the choice, and see what all our big chains have deprived us poor Brits of!
Will definitely return to this area of Spain.
We stayed in one of the two villas. We did not realise from the description that they share a common entrance and the patio/dining area and windows of our villa over looked and were over looked by the adjacent villa which was occupied by the owners and literally ten feet away. There was therefore no real privacy, something which we like on holiday. The area with the fountain (not working), suposedly connected to our villa was really a common area and used by the owners. These points should really be made clear and was a bit of a dissappointment.
Some of the features decribed in the accommodation were not avaiable, for example no sky even if you did take your own card, and the motor boat- locked up in a garage!
The villa is small and quite dark inside. In fact I would not really describe this property as a 'villa' in my understanding of the term.
On the positive side the beach was fantastic, the food at the local restuarants on the beach was good and the owners if too close were very friendly.
Villa is 0,5 mile from Isla Cristina, fishing town in Southwest Spain. By toll-free motorways, Andalusia wonderful cities at 0.5-3 hours. Luminous, mild coast, 3000 hours sun/year, 185 days/year for swimming, 19 C average air T over year, 26 C in summer. At 0-6 mille, 2 marinas, 2 casinos, 2 golf courses, at 45 min driving the beautiful National Park of Donana , at 80 min the thematic park of Magic Island in Seville.
NICE WEATHER & SEA TEMPERATURE, SUN, SAFE SEA, RELAX, GOLF, BIRDWATCHING, WALKING. NICE TOURS TO ANDALUCIA & ALGARVE SITES.
Other Activities: Fishing, sailing, windsurfing, football, tennis, basketball.
Golf: There are two excellent golf courses, Isla Canela and Isla Antilla (27 holes), at 1-6 mille from the villa. Visitors are welcome. Facilities include; Full Grass Driving Range, Putting Green, Chipping Green, Practice Bunkers, Resident Golf Professional.
Isla Antilla (1 mille) is the perfect place to explore the golf courses close to the border between Spain and Portugal, only the Dunes of Doñana course at Matalascanas being more than an hour away by car. The beauty of the courses close to Isla Antilla is that they are all rather different. Compared to the Western Algarve and the Costa del Sol, Costa de la Luz – Huelva and the Eastern Algarve are as yet ‘undiscovered’. Green fees are lower, the courses are less crowded and less busy making it much easier to get a start time that you want and to be able to get round in reasonable time without delays. Other golf courses in the area include Isla Canela, Nuevo Portil, El Rompido in Spain and Castro Marim, Benamor, Quinta da Ria, Quinta de Cima in Portugal.
