Quiet house in great Hillcrest neighborhood. Open floor plan and large deck overlooking serene bird filled canyon. Walk two blocks to Balboa Park, Museums, World Famous San Diego Zoo, Hillcrest restaurants and bars. Driveway parking and easy street parking too! Queen beds in large bedrooms. This is a great family neighborhood.
Come and enjoy a great vacation in a great neighborhood. Finish each night with a barbecue and a drink on the deck.
PLEASE NOTE - I keep the online calendar VERY accurate. When I receive a deposit, I immediately mark the days on the calendar. A marked day means that the house is rented for that evening. So if you reserved for 7/2-7/5 I would mark of 7/2,7/3 & 7/4, NOT 7/5 since you would be leaving that morning.
I purchased this house as my residence. I've since purchased another house around the corner and I am living in it and restoring it. In the meantime, I am renting our my original house on VRBO. My VRBO property is my preferred place to live but for now I am renting it.
JAMES MCDERMOTT purchased this house in 1996
I've lived in San Diego since 1989 and have always lived in the neighborhood where I own 3 properties including the one I rent on VRBO.
The canyon, the canyon, the canyon! It is full of wildlife, it is very peaceful and in the summer the cool breezes that come up the canyon from San Diego Bay are so pleasant.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Hillcrest house. The location is excellent and within walking distance to shopping, restaurants, and balboa park. We are golfers so there were many golf courses to choose from within a few miles from the house. The home is spacious and great for entertaining a small group of friends. The home was equipped with all the necessary items that a vacationer would need. The driveway was a little too narrow for our car, however, we never had any problems parking on the street right in front of the house. I would recommend this very reasonable priced property to our friends. The owner was very accommodating with our needs.
The best thing about this property is location - 15 min walk from the Zoo, in a nice neighborhood, a short drive to grocery stores (e.g. Whole Foods) and restaurants. We stayed there for a week with our three kids (6, 2, 2 y.o.) - mainly to visit the Zoo. There was enough space there for all of us. The twins shared a bed and the older one slept on a spare twin mattress. The house is not a bad place to stay, but not what I'd call immaculately clean or well maintained. I don't mind silverfish in the silverware (I like silverfish), and I too have a hard time keeping ants out of my house, but there was a layer of dust on furniture, towel bar and curtain holders falling off walls, porch light out, a loose board hanging from the roof over the deck. AC in the living room is a floor unit and is "vented" through an open window (so not especially efficient). The doors kind of grimy. The place is adequate, but needs some care and a better cleaning service.
Our family of four had a wonderful 9-days stay in this charming and comfortable little house. We particularly enjoyed its privacy without vis-à-vis, large living and dining room opening to a spacious deck that is overlooking trees. Its large closets offer ample storage space. The location at about 15 minutes walking distance to restaurants, Whole Food market and the beautiful Balboa Park is ideal. The quiet street with easy parking is an added convenience. We appreciated being provided with fans in each room, many towels and household products. We cannot wait to return to this little gem house for another perfect vacation!
We needed temporary housing until construction on our new home was completed. The location is very conveniently and centrally located in the city and close to freeway access. We have a cat and appreciated that the owner allowed pets. The neighborhood is quiet and safe and parking for two cars on the street was never a problem. We originally planned to stay about a month and ended up staying almost three months. The house and furnishing are a bit worn which makes it feel and live like a beach house. The TV is newer with cable and there is a wireless network, although a bit slow at times. The owner, James, was very responsive to all inquires or requests and wanted to be sure we were comfortable.
This house was perfect for us - my wife and I wanted to spend Thanksgiving weekend with her 79 yr old parents. Kitchen was fully stocked - we cooked a great Thanksgiving meal - and many others. Bedrooms were generously large and beds were comfortable. The area was very convenient in a beautiful neighborhood - 2 blocks from Balboa Park with a "park-like" feel in the back yard. The house seemed to get a lot of use, but it was also well cared for. I highly recommend.
Great location, the house was nice and charming. We were a family of 4 and had everything we needed. The bedrooms were spacious and beds were comfortable. The kitchen was fully equipped and we enjoyed home made dinner every night - it helped us to stay in the budget and spend the days touring beautiful San Diego. Will definitely recommend to families!
