Maison Bleu is furnished to a very high standard & set in 5 acres of south facing garden with large orchard (help yourself to fruit). Situated in a small tranquil hamlet, with panoramic views of the countryside, easily explored on foot or bike. The 40 x 20 ft pool is enclosed to current safety standards with ample space for loungers/parasols. Croquet/boules/badminton/golf practice. Inside.Cosy reading lounge with music system, extensive collection of books/music. Large dining area with french doors onto front terrace. Fully equipped farmhouse kitchen with farmhouse table & chairs and french doors to sunny front terrace. Double bedroom, bathroom with corner bath, seperate WC. Conservatory with view of pool, perfect for watching the sunset with an aperitif. 1st floor.Large TV lounge Sky TV (Freeview channels), video/DVD player. Large video/DVD library. 2 large bedrooms one double and one twin/triple. Bathroom with walk in shower WC & wash basin. Perfect for a family or 3 couples.

Relax: Water sports are available along the banks of the river Dronne at various locations.Kayaks and Canoes can be easily hired.

There are two golf courses within 30 minutes, 9 hole at Aubeterre & 18 hole at Perigueux. There is also an excellent 18 hole course at Cognac. Within our grounds we have a large area in which to practice your golf swing, clubs and balls available.

You will find many relaxing short walks in the area and we can provide picnic equipment for a longer day out.

The surrounding countryside is perfect for cycling as it is not too hilly and there are many quiet country lanes.(3 bikes available on site)

The area is frequented and favoured by many artists, with perfect light and a variety of subjects.

Taste: You will find a multitude of excellent restaurants ranging from quick snacks to fine dining in and around the villages and towns of the region, including Riberac known as the capital of foie gras. Other specialities include wild mushrooms, walnuts and also the truffle.

The fresh fish in the area is superb and don't forget to try the moules. .

One of the main features of the balmy summer evenings is the free outdoor live music sessions held at local cafes throughout the area. Just relax with a beer or glass of wine and soak up the atmosphere.

Explore: Markets are a big attraction for visitors, the best being in Angouleme, Perigueux and Riberac. There is also a large market in Chalais (40mins) on Monday.

There are many fine Chateaux and Churches for you to explore as well as historic medieaval towns with pretty cobbled market squares.

You will find excellent shopping in the larger towns also good antique shops, and vide greniers throughout the season.

Visit the vineyards at St.Emilion and many others around Bordeaux and Bergerac or the famous distilleries at Cognac.

You cannot fail to find plenty to do here if you have the energy, if not just relax by the pool, you are on holiday !

Electric gates and private driveway leading to the property with ample parking for at least 3 cars. Owners live discreetly on site but away from the property.They are very discreet and the property is completely private. They will provide a warm welcome and point of contact for any local information. Will also provide occasional babysitting service. Excellent welcome pack provided including milk, tea, coffee, wine, fruit & croissants. We provide toilet rolls, dishwasher tablets & cleaning materials. Washing machine available. Tea towels, towels, pool towels and all bed linen included in the rental and will be changed mid weekend on 2 week stay. We have bicycles available at the property. There are badminton/volleyball nets and equipment. Boules and Croquet. You will find an extensive library indoors and a variety of board games. There is WIFI available and we can provide printing of documents if required.

Maison Bleu is in a beautiful location with stunning views along and over the valley. It is very quiet and has extensive outdoor space (lawns and orchards). The house is extremely spacious, comfortable, homely, well maintained and immaculately clean. All the rooms are of a good size and thoughtfully furnished with comfy beds and lots of cupboard and wardrobe space. The (4) central rooms are large and means the house can easily accomodate the maximum number of people without you feeling on top of each other.This was also the best equipped house we've ever stayed in (by a mile), with everything you could possibly need in the kitchen, lots of board games, books and DVDs, as well as garden games, bikes and swimming pool kit. There was more than enough to keep the children occupied in and outside the house with the big, safe and beautifully maintained swimming pool a particular positive.

The area immediately around the house is excellent for scenic walks and bicycling and there are a number of extremely pretty market towns and villages nearby. There are various more specific attractions further afield.

The (English) owners live next door which we found a real bonus. They were extremely kind, friendly, thoughtful and unobtrusive and provided any help we needed.

I cannot fault any aspect of the setting, house or garden and would have no hesitation in recommending a visit to Maison Bleu if you are considering a holiday in this area. We were there for 3 weeks and were very sad to leave as we felt so very much at home!

Fabulous pool and house to spend a peaceful holiday surrounded by places to visit

We had an amazing holiday here. We have 3 kids aged 7-9 and the house caters for them brilliantly with garden swing and games, and a great pool. They were swimming all day in the constant sunshine. Dave and Paula are welcoming and helpful, yet leave you to enjoy the house. The welcome pack of wine and food is very generous. We were somewhat lazy but there are plenty of places to visit by car. Aubeterre for a spot of river swimming. Brantome for a boat trip and canoeing. Lunch in little villages. We need to return to try out the markets and some lake swimming. Surrounded by fields of sunflowers, it's a wonderful place to sip cold rosé and watch the sunsets.

A lovely house in an idyllic setting

This house is absolutely lovely. We have just returned from a week's stay with our 21 and 17 year old children, and we have all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is like a home from home, beautifully furnished and well appointed. The grounds are vast and fabulous - we have played table tennis, badminton, golf and frisbee all week long and have picked and eaten fruit from the orchard - and the pool is immaculate. The setting is gorgeous as the views from the house are marvellous - you can see for miles - and it is really peaceful.

Nearby Mareuil is charming, about 5 minutes drive or 15-20 minutes bike ride away (we cycled there each morning to buy the croissants!).

We had a really enjoyable, relaxing break and have returned with our batteries fully recharged.

The owners, David and Paula, live clo by and could not have been more helpful.

We thoroughly recommend staying here.

Absolutely fantastic - loved every minute

Brilliant - huge house and grounds - fantastic for the kids . Pool exceeded expectations. Very well kept. Dave and Paula wonderful hosts - there if you needed them, but very unobtrusive otherwise. Lots of information. Excellent communication with them before the holiday too.Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you - we would love to come back!

The perfect holiday location

When we arrived at Maison Bleu we were delighted to find that it was not only as good as it had appeared on the website but even better!

We felt immediately at home; the house is spacious, clean, comfortable and incredibly well equipped and the grounds are stunning. Absolutely everything we could have wanted as a family was there: a wonderful and safely enclosed swimming pool; orchards where we could go for evening strolls and help ourselves to apples and apricots; a really large garden to play and relax in; a great outdoor eating area with a barbeque; a table tennis table and lots of other fabulous toys and equipment for the kids to play with.

The location suited us perfectly as due to its position (just outside the main area of the Dordogne and not in a coastal location) it was unspoilt by tourism but near enough to great places to visit (we loved going on the river in Brantome) and fantastic places to eat (the house folder with helpful information on nearby attractions includes a list of great restaurant recommendations). The walkers in our group were also delighted to find that the long distance walk, the Grande Randonnee 36, went past the front gate.

David and Paula (the English owners who live discreetly on site) strike a great balance of being incredibly helpful (David does the daily maintenance of the swimming pool and they are really friendly, giving you extra information on anything if you ask for it) yet unobtrusive.

We had the perfect holiday here and hope to repeat the experience next year!

Fantastic French property

The best French property we have ever stayed in. Absolutely beautiful location with a house to match.

Everything was over & above the listing description both in relation to the house itself , the pool area & all the facilities.

We were made to feel so welcome and were included/invited to join in local activities.

Dave & Paula live very discreetly on site & are always available if needed. We have come home feeling like we have made new friends.

Usually we like to try different places when we holiday , but this experience could break that rule

Beauclaveau is a small hamlet 3.5km from the pretty town of Mareuil which has all the amenities you are likely to need, inc. bank, supermarket, bars/restaurants, butcher, bakers, doctor, dentist, post office, garage, various other shops & a small market on Tues. Riberac (20km), has larger supermarkets, greater variety of shops and restaurants & a large famous market on Friday. A further 10km south is Lac Jemaye, a beautiful lake with white sandy beaches, picnic areas, cafe/restaurants and various water sports. 20km south east of Mareuil is the picturesque town of Brantome, surrounded by the river Dronne, with prehistoric caves and abbey. To the south is Perigueux (45km) with its medieaval old quarter & magnificent domed cathedral. Also in easy reach are the vineyards of Bergerac & Bordeaux and Cognac, with its famous distilleries worth a visit at 70km. Angouleme with its ramparts & many shops is 35km to the north. Countryside Culture and Cuisine a perfect combination.
