This cozy and gently renovated 1950 cottage has the charm of a quaint but elegant country retreat. Gardens bloom from early spring through late autumn, an airy screened-in porch is wonderful for birdwatching, reading, eating a relaxed meal, or, on summer nights, sleeping. A stone fireplace warms you in style in the winter, while the thick walls keep the house cool through the summer. Half of the 5-acre property is fenced in, with plenty of room for dogs to run and play; the other half is unimproved, with a babbling brook. A beautiful pool in a clearing, large old oak and maple trees, and a tiny koi pond finish the picture. A simple but functional kitchen with new appliances makes for easy and fun entertaining. A wonderful place to get away from it all, and just 2 hours from NYC!
Activities: Nearby Stone Ridge, Boiceville, Accord and New Paltz provide opportunities for groceries, antique shopping, dining, and even a (wee little bit) of night life. Hikes, biking trails, and canoeing and kayaking opportunities abound throughout the area, as well as cross country skiing in winter, with Belleayre Ski Center 45 minutes away for downhill buffs. Closer to home, the property's pool provides all day entertainment for the kids, grilling - perhaps some meat bought at the famous Fleisher's butcher shop in nearby Kingston - is always fun, and at night you can make s'mores or just chill by the outdoor firepit. There's tons of stuff to keep you busy, but we admit it - we like most of all to while the beautiful days and evenings away with a book and maybe a glass of wine.
Pet friendly: Much of the property is fenced in, and we provide furniture covers, doggie-beds, bowls - even a kitty litter box if you want to bring along the family cat - all to make your furry friends at home. Felines love sitting out on the screened in porch!
It's our third trip to this property and we enjoy every second. We come for the fireplace, fenced-in yard for our dog and my husband made some great smoked pork and chicken on the charcoal grill. The beds are comfy and we adore the peace and quiet.
Overall house is pretty and cozy. Mine dog and my friends dog had so much fun and exploring time in fenced in properity.House needs better cleaning especially space between screen and Windows. There is so much dead bugs.spider website. Swimming pool area, the cement tiles around the pool area are in bed condition need to be fix. We had to be very careful walking around and need to watch dogs not to get hurt. But definitely recommend this property for vacation and We hope we gonna be able come next year.
Great home, very clean and all that you could want taken care of, like kitchen basics, and a clear welcome book with instructions and advice. Excellent place to bring your pets, the screened in deck is comfortable and dog hair-proofed, our dogs loved watching "doggie tv" out there. We will definitely check to see if this home is available the next time we visit the Woodstock area.
We stayed for five days in April over our kids' spring break, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Julie was quick to respond to questions about the house, and because there was nobody there before or after we left, she accommodated our early arrival and late departure. The house was even better than the pictures, and we loved sitting around the dining room table playing games, and in front of the fire reading. There is an outstanding library of books, and tons of dvds, the beds are comfortable, the kitchen is stocked, and the porch would be heavenly in warmer weather. We brought our cat with us, which we had never considered doing before, but Julie made it easy since there was already a litter box available, and it made our trip that much better. The kids LOVED exploring in the woods, and it was just such a peaceful space. We had great meals at the Country Inn (five minutes away), at Lekkers in Stone Ridge (we went there twice!) and at the Bywater Bistro in Rosendale, which we stopped at after a hike in the Black Creek Preserve (around 45 minutes away the hike is a little under 2 hours, and clearly marked with maps available in the parking lot, and the right level for a 5 and 9 year old.) We would go back, and absolutely recommend this house if you're looking for quiet relaxation away from it all. Thank you for a great vacation!
I like this house a lot, and it would be especially nice to stay there in the summer when the pool is open and the big screened in porch could be used. Lots and lots of books and DVD's, a well equipped kitchen with lots of spices, and the beds are very comfortable. It would be great if the living room were more comfortable, and with seating for more of us, but that is my only critique. There was a heating problem this time (worn out fan belt) but the owner was very good about getting a repair man to us and about giving us a partial refund for one evening when we weren't able to be there. I'm sure that is a rare occurence. There is no generator and power outages can be a problem in this area, but on the whole, a very nice place and a considerate owner.
House is very nice, bigger than the pictures suggest. We were a family and of 5 with a lab/golden retriever dog. Overall we were all very comfortable, didn't feel constrained. Rooms are all nice size. Our only negative comment was the lack of comfortable seating in the living room area. There's just one small sofa, with a couple of chairs. Just wasn't enough relaxed seats for our family. Probably not an issue in the summer with screen porch accessible. Not huge issue, but thought I'd mention.
Yard and grounds are great, everything is fenced in so we felt safe letting our dog, tucker run free during our stay. The house is very well cared for and has everything you would need. During our stay, we hiked the kanape Brook trail, just a short drive away, skied hunter mtn and spent time in Woodstock. Overall we really enjoyed our week in the Catskills and the house and property were a big part of it.
