About JENNIFER MORGAN

I am an painter and sculptor. My first love is of the mountains and open spaces and gardens and deserts and beaches and wild animals and wild lands. So I don't really know how I would define myself for you.

JENNIFER MORGAN purchased this cottage in 1974

Why JENNIFER MORGAN chose San Francisco

In late 1973 I came back to San Francisco. I loved the city but my problem had always been that I wanted to live in the country as well. I drove and walked all through the Glen Park neighborhood in San Francisco looking for a 'place' that would fit me. I didn't know if I wanted to rent or buy. Then I came across this dilapidated house on the hill. It was falling down the hill. The house sat in the middle of three barren empty lots. I fell in love. Behind the house was a cottage.

What makes this cottage unique

The house and the cottage are surrounded by light and air. Everything in San Francisco and the surrounding communities is easily accessible from here. Most of all it has a feeling of privacy and seclusion; while still being so close to everything.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The cottage is a beautiful hideaway in SF, very comfortable and bright. We had a wonderful time, and would definitely return.

Best kept secret in San Franicsco

  • 5 of 5

I have traveled to many places in my life and have been to San Francisco a number of times in the past six years, but I have NEVER expierienced an ambience so perfect that one has to experience it to believe it. No matter what I say, it will not do this wonderful property justice. I will try. The smell of the flowers and trees, the beautiful natural light, attention to detail, beautiful wood work, Asian art, a beautiful kitchen with appliances and flatware, silverware, and glassware that are beautiful as much as they are functional, a comfortable bed, a beautiful ceramic tiled bathroom all create a very special environment. I dare to say that had it rained my entire stay, I would have been content to stay in the cottage and enjoy a property that the owner obviously holds dear.

The property was clean, the amenities were beyond what one would find in a four or five star hotel, and all claims by the owner in the listing were accurate and truthful. The pictures accurately portrayed the layout and beauty of the cottage.

I must say, I was as surprised to find that Glen Park itself is a wonderful neighborhood to stay and I found a number of excellent eating options although I must admit, I did cook one meal in the cottage due to the fact that there is a wonderful market on Chemery Street. For those who like it, I found the French Restaurant an excellent choice. The Thai restaurant was also a great place to enjoy other ethnic cuisine.

The cottage is conveninent to buses that take you main muni stations and of course one has the option of using BART which I took from the airport for a mere $8.00. Traveling to downtown using the BART will cost between $1.70 and $2.00 depending upon the specific stop. And yes, it IS minutes from downtown.

I hope to stay at the cottage again this fall.

Thank you Veronica and Johannes. I will be sure to come again if your cottage is available.

San Francisco Cottage

  • 1 of 5

Our stay in San Francisco was great! Our stay in the cottage disappointing...inside it was dirty and outside everything was overgrown. While it was painted in a charming way, that was it. Broken counter top, many blown out light bulbs, toaster that made the fuses blow, cobwebs everywhere, hole in the wall (covered with picture),terrible fish odor and walkway up to cottage was difficult since there was no railing. Owner responded to our call but when she came, she only changed light bulbs. Since then, owner has not responded to our calls or emails regarding everything that was wrong. We would recommend staying elsewhere.

Awesome cottage

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is so wonderfully. The neighborhood was very nice. The neighborhood has some nice little grocery market's and restaurants. The Bart is also pretty close to the cottage. The owner and the property manager are so awesome and were very helpful with everything. I will be booking more vacations here. And thanks again for letting us here, we had a great time!

Perfectly secluded and peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

A perfect location for my stay. Glen Park neighbourhood itself is a lovely part of San Francisco within easy reach of Downtown and beyond. Our host was easily reachable and responded to all requests immediately. My whole stay was a delight and as a regular visitor to the area I hope to be able to stay here again.

6 night stay

  • 3 of 5

We came here for the first leg of our 3 week honeymoon. proximity to airport was fine, about 40 dollars. The hills are tough to say the least, 2 major inclines from the Bart station but only a 5 minute walk!the cottage was beautiful but we had a couple issues ...

1. no curtains-bit unnerving at night time and felt a huge lack of privacy. I understand the architecture of the house makes the look of drapes unappealing but it was definitely a necessity for us

2. kettle didn't work - not a major issue but we love our tea and this was a down point!

3. only one roll of toilet roll- we'd actually packed one ourselves and thank god because there was none spare, for a six night stay I would have expected it on reserve!

All in all Glen park was a beautiful area with friendly people, get restaurants and was very accessible to downtown as well as golden gate park etc.

we enjoyed our stay but sue to issues above we'd have to give it a 3 out of 5.

Nice cottage in a great community

  • 3 of 5

We arrived late on a Monday night. The cottage was hot, hot, hot. We immediately opened all of the windows and were greeted by some type biting, flying insects we assumed to be mosquitoes. The owner never responded to any of the three phone numbers when we called to ask about controlling the heat. The first night was miserable. The large apartment complex that was built behind this cottage has all of it's balconies right above the roof. It was loud on Monday night.

I went outside to wander in the gardens but they are mostly dried up and it was not nice enough to sit outside. Dirty furniture, broken Adirondack chairs, and leaves and brush in the sitting areas.

The next four days were much better. We enjoyed the cottage, coffee maker, plenty of towels, seating, etc.

If I was grading the community it would be five stars. Glen Park has so many nice places to eat. The BART is convenient. The hills are tough at first but you get used to it.

I can only grade the cottage as 3 stars. Veronica nor her sister seemed to show much interest in our concerns. That's okay. I really prefer to stay away from the owners as much as possible. Besides the first night being hot, the apartment building patios being right above the cottage, the gardens and furniture outside being mostly unusable, the place was great.

Owner's Response: It is a sad review and much of it I just can't change. San Francisco did have an unusual heat spell. It actually got up to about 80 degrees during the day, which for us is unheard of. However the cottage has a plethora of windows which we throw open to the night air. It also has fans and clerestory windows which open. Houses in San Francisco do not come with air conditioning; we call that fog. As for the biting flies or mosquitos, that has me stumped. I returned the guests calls as soon as I could and the mosquitos are confusing to me. I have lived in San Francisco for over 50 years and have never had an interaction with a mosquito or a biting fly. We are in extreme drought conditions now and don't have any moisture for insects to breed in. I called in the plumber and had him go over the cottage and the grounds looking for any leaks that could breed insects and not only could he not find anything but as a native San Franciscan he was completely stumped as well. As for dying and dead plants; yes there are some. I know many of you come from the Southeastern United States and are used to lush landscapes. We are in a severe drought condition in California that is terrifying. There is some die off because of the cutbacks in watering but I am changing out the plants for drought tolerant and native plants; somewhat because of the drought but mostly because of ecological concerns. The last gardener did not thoroughly understand planting for the region. I have hired Merritt Gardens to change us over to native bird and butterfly gardens. Brian Merritt comes with decades of experience as well as a storehouse of knowledge on planting for water, soil, temperature conditions, and knowledge of the plants themselves and how they mature. So...we will have some growing pains switching over but they should not be horrific. I can't address the broken outdoor furniture because I haven't seen any. I appreciate all comments bad or good as it gives me the opportunity to address the need. Thank-you for your review, Veronica Stork

Location

Car: not necessary

The cottage is located in the Glen Park neighborhood in San Francisco usually referred to as Glen Park Village, because of it's old European flavor.

The Village of Glen Park is nestled in the surrounding hills. In the village you will find coffee shops, some of the best restaurants in San Francisco, hardware store, cleaners, grocery store, book store, vintage store, bakery, pretty much anything you need is two blocks away from the cottage; down in the village.

Glen Park is also a great walking neighborhood. If you follow the main street of Glen Park to it's end you will come upon Glen Canyon Park. A wonderful walking park with a meandering stream and native plants. Trails that can lead you all the way up to the Diamond Heights Safeway and beyond. Then continue back to the cottage in a very scenic loop down Beacon street and through the open areas of the Diamond Heights neighborhood and the Noe Valley neighborhood overlooking downtown San Francisco. Or, for the hikers, you can go in the opposite direction around Twin Peaks and then down and back to the cottage.

San Francisco is divided into neighborhoods. Glen Park is one of the oldest neighborhoods. If you look on a map of San Francisco and put your finger on the very middle of it, you would have pointed out Glen Park.

Consequently the cottage is close to everything. It makes driving unnecessary. The Glen Park BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit - the underground)Station is a short three blocks from the cottage. Which makes downtown or the financial district just ten minutes away. Berkeley and the East Bay easily easily reachable without having to drive. Fisherman's Wharf and other San Francisco attractions just a few minutes away by BART or MUNI (bus).

If you are looking for a Sunday drive to Half Moon Bay or lunch at Barbara's Crab Shack in Princeton By The Bay. You can hop on the freeway, just three blocks from the cottage which gives you access to the coast in less than fifteen minutes.

If you are looking for high end comfort and ease of access to anything or anywhere in San Francisco this is your place.
