Great access to the Park

  • 5 of 5

A great place to stay that is 5-10mins away from multiple entrances to the park as well as the town of Bar Harbor. Otter Creek allowed us enter and exit the park without being committed to driving the entire one-way park loop road each time, as well as get into and out of Bar Harbor with relative ease. Given the construction and lane closures on the North end of the island, this place was the perfect location to stay during our trip. Sheridy was quick to respond to all our questions and provided excellent instructions for our arrival and departure. The cottage was well laid out and included all the amenities we required. While there was some noise coming from the nearby road, we did not find it disturbing and it settled down significantly after about 8-9pm. We want to thank Mike and Sheridy for the use of their cottage and excellent service throughout and hope to visit Mt. Desert Island again soon!

Cozy Little Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a week's stay at Sheridy's cottage and it was the perfect getaway. The location is just a few miles out of Bar Harbor but very convenient to in-town restaurants and shops as well as Acadia hiking trails. The cottage is modestly furnished but fulfills most every need. The washer/dryer alone is worth Five Stars! We especially enjoyed building a fire every night in the backyard fire pit and taking a 15 minute walk to the most beautiful ocean view at Acadia in the mornings.

Great Place for a Couple's Get Away

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was small but well laid out and comfortable. It came well equipped with pretty much everything you might need. It's not fancy, but was clean, neat and mostly up-to-date. We did have some frustrations with the washing machine - but maybe it was because I didn't understand the controls. The bed was comfortable...but the mattress made some strange sounds. Since my husband and I were there to enjoy the great outdoors (there was a lot of hiking and biking for all levels) we spent almost no time there and didn't cook because we were enjoying the great local restaurants! There are a lot to choose from. The weather was perfect so we were out and about as much as possible. The location was convenient to Bar Harbor without being disturbed by a lot of traffic and we were able to get to almost anywhere on the island within a few minutes. We would recommend it to others who plan to visit Acadia and Bar Harbor.

In the heart of Acadia

  • 5 of 5

We had a beautiful week on the island and enjoyed staying at the cottage immensely! The place was the perfect size for us two and our dog, Finn. The bed was comfortable, bedroom ceiling fan a plus, and the cottage is very quiet inside. The location was closer to the road than optimal, but we found that the incredible convenience of the place - near Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, trails, and the Jordon Pond park entrance - more than made up for it. After spending our days hiking, biking, and exploring outside, the cottage was a peaceful respite!

Mike and Sheridy are extremely welcoming and responsive owners. We were contacted shortly after arriving to see when it would be convenient to stop in and attach the dishwasher - mentioned in a prior review. In this age of social media, it is sometimes easier to say nothing and write more harshly. In fact, when the 2 yo flat screen tv in the living room unexpectedly died, they insisted on giving us their own. This is a lovely family, present and more than happy to help make your stay comfortable.

Convenient but not worth the price

  • 2 of 5

Convenient location if you want to go to Acadia but wouldn't recommend going during peak season. Spent the week tripping over tourists and not finding any parking at Acadia. The house was way over priced for what it was. Little kitchen items, enough laundry detergent to do one load of towels, no dishwasher detergent, dishwasher was not screwed in properly which causes the entire dishwasher to fall out. Was expecting a quiet get away and that is not what we got. Wood is sold right in front of your driveway so people are pulling in day/night, across the street is a shower/laundry location for campers so there was also noises from both locations. The neighbor across the street was yelling at cars to slow down every night when we were outside. House was very clean and relatively modern but should of cost much much less. We had friends that got a 3 bedroom 2 bath whole house inland on a private lake for less than this house cost us. We ended up spending a couple nights with them to escape the noise and hussle of Mt Desert. I would suggest going off season and staying a little inland to have a more enjoyable Maine vacation.

Owner's Response: Hi there, I'm so sorry for your experience in Acadia and disappointment in your vacation overall. You are only the 2nd person in 6 years that has had any complaints with our little cottage but we appreciate the feedback so we can keep improving. As for the price, I'm sure you looked at rentals in our area and saw that we are priced at the lowest rate for what is offered. If you were looking for a cabin in the woods, we would have gladly referred you to other locations. Most of our renters seem to be very active and take advantage of the numerous hiking trails, carriage roads, lakes and ocean while here....maybe dinner and some shopping in Bar Harbor where it's very busy during July and August. As for the dishwasher and detergent, I wish you would have called as soon as you noticed this issue so we could have addressed it. Now new renters are in there and we had no idea that there was an issue. If we do not know that something is not working properly, we can't fix it. Instead of writing it in your review, you could have called any of my numbers or emailed and we would have been there the same day to fix it. I would also like to know about noise because we do try to let the campers buying wood know not to disturb the residents and I can easily call neighbors to keep it down as well. As far as Acadia being too crowded, you chose the 100th anniversary week and visors are up by at least 20%....so you literally chose the busiest time of year for your vacation. We are so proud of this beautiful island we call home and literally have 2 busy months per year....July and August. The weather has been gorgeous so, of course people are flocking here to take in the beauty of this place. If you were looking for a remote setting away from it all, I would have happily given you recommendations. We border Blackwoods campground and most residents sell fire wood to campers because it is illegal to bring in your own firewood. It's never been a problem with any other renters over the past 6 years of renting our cottage. Most people are very respectful but again, we appreciate knowing about any issues or concerns. We do hope you come back during off season to enjoy the splendors and beauty of Acadia. Regards, Sheridy

Great place!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is a *great* location. It's close to everything - lots of trails in Acadia, Bar Harbor, the coast. There is a small grocery store that's literally just around the corner. It has everything you need, including laundry. Neat and tidy on the inside. We definitely will come back!
