Perfect Aix location

  • 5 of 5

Lana is an excellent host who both before and during our stay was fully prepared to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The apartment is accurately described, well equipped, and is very comfortable and efficient. Most of all, the location could not be better for exploring Aix itself and with Lana's generous parking arrangement, the Provencal countryside. It was a perfect place to start our trip and renew our relationship with Aix and Provence.

Great location and wonderful owner!

  • 4 of 5

The apartment is well equipped and convenient to everything. Lana was helpful in all ways

and we loved working with her. The district was a bit noisy at night since we arrived during the universities' return in September, but we are guessing that things would be more quiet at other times. This is a great place to stay!

Excellent apartment in the center of Aix

  • 5 of 5

There are several factors that make this apartment an excellent choice for 2 people (and up to 4 given the presence of a couch/futon):

1) Location - Right in the heart of Aix-en-Provence, this apartment is located off a small square with a fountain that turns into a hub for diners at night. It's a short walk through the winding streets of Aix to visit the various markets, restaurants, and cafes available throughout the city...and even manageable if you want to visit Cezanne's studio north of the center city.

2) Comfort - This apartment is attractively decorated, with a comfortable bed, surprisingly large bathroom (by European standards), nice little kitchen, with access to an efficient washing machine (which came in handy). The air conditioning and the wi-fi both work well, so even in 30 degree Celsius heat we were comfortable as long as we closed the window shutters to block out the sun's rays.

3) Lana - The owner of the apartment, Lana, is friendly, helpful, and informative. While we were quite independent and didn't need to call on Lana for anything during our stay, she was kind enough to check in with us to see how our visit was going and also provided a list of suggested restaurants, places to see, a city map, etc. She speaks at least 3 languages very well and is very approachable.

4) Quiet - We stayed during the Euro 2016 Championships and didn't have any problems with noise...especially in the back bedroom. While one could imagine that late night revelry might disturb someone sleeping on the couch/futon, we didn't notice any excessive noise past 10 PM.

5) Parking - The parking that Lana offers (as an add-on) is very reasonably priced and just a 5-minute walk from the apartment. You should know that there is no parking within the confines of the old part of the city, so knowing that you have a parking spot ready and waiting for you at any time of day was helpful to us. The parking garage is tight, so I would strongly suggest having a smaller car (especially if you're from the U.S.), which makes it much easier to navigate the garage's ramps and tight exit turns.

NOTE: The one possible area of concern would only apply to people who fall easily, are unsteady on their feet, or have lots of trouble with stairs. Since the building is old, the stairway is tight and the steps are uneven.

Everything else is great, especially if you plan on exploring Aix or the countryside most of the day. I highly recommend this apartment in the center of Aix.

Owner's Response: Dear P and L, Thank you soooo much for the detailed and argumented review of my renting. It is very kind of you to give me this good critics, I am glad you found the accomodation convenient and that you enjoyed your stay... Looks like I can't do much to improve as unfortunately the steps in the building leading to my apartment or the parking standards in France are not in my area of influence. I would like just to add for those who might be reading this review that the proposed price now includes the parking and that even though it's not as large as I myself would like to, I manage to park my 4×4 on the same kind of spot every day...The question of habit maybe :) Once again, I really enjoyed meeting you both and thanks again for your flexibility, positive attitude, kindness and also babysitting ;) All the very best to you, Lana.

Great location - warm welcome

  • 5 of 5

If you are travelling without a car, this is a fantastic place to stay - in the heart of the old city very close to the Cours Mirabeau and with a real buzz. The apartment is small but well appointed - comfortable double bed, good monsoon/hand-held shower, good facilities and equipment for cooking and, thankfully, excellent air-con. The communal stairway maybe looks a bit shabby but the flat itself is great and access to the building is by electronic key-fob, so it feels like a safe place to be.

If you can't be bothered to cook, you have any number of restaurants nearby, including Mitch (about ten steps away) which is really good quality if a bit expensive. If your budget won't run to that, there are two takeaway pizza places only a minute away and lots of other recommendations in Lana's welcome guide. There is a good boulangerie - again moments away - or if you prefer 'fast' bread, a branch of the ubiquitous Paul just across the street.

Lana gave us a warm welcome and was very keen to ensure that we knew everything we needed to know. After that, she checked we were OK but left us to ourselves - just as we like it.

This was our first visit to Aix, which we thought was just beautiful! And it seems to have more good quality markets than I have seen anywhere else in France. But if Aix and its wonderful fountains are not enough for you, take a 10-15 minute walk to the bus or railway stations and head for Marseille, just a short hop away.

Too far to travel? Not at all! With Eurostar and TGV, you can get to Aix in about seven hours from Kent. And it's well worth the effort!

Perfect locale and well appointed gem in Aix en Provence

  • 5 of 5

Lana was extremely helpful, friendly and available when needed. The apartment was ideally situated in the old city and we walked to great restaurants and enjoyed the locale. The apartment was modern, immaculate and well appointed. Whilst spacious for two, it would be cramped for four. We loved our time there.

Perfect Location in Aix!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a delightful week in this apartment in October 2015. It is a 2nd (3rd) floor walk-up in the heart of the old city. No street parking, the landlord let us use her garage spot for our rental car, just the other side of the central roundabout, a short 4-block walk. The apartment was perfect after we hung an opaque cloth over the window which looks directly into the apartment across the tiny street. Everything we needed to prepare meals was there, and it was very comfortable for relaxing. The entire old city was within easy walking distance. We could not have been more delighted with the apartment, our hosts, and with our week in Aix!
