Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday villa in Canillas de Aceituno

Traditional house with private pool, sea views and mountains

In the midst of nature, in the natural park of Sierra Tejeda, you will taste an unexpected tranquility in this villa decorated with taste and equipped with everything you need for a comfortable vacation. Divided into two parts, the house has a double bedroom, a bathroom with tub and separate shower, a lounge / dining room with TV and wood burning stove for winter evenings and a fully equipped kitchen. The second bedroom is separated from the main house and has an en suite bath. All rooms open onto terraces and shaded patios with views of the surrounding hills and the sea beyond. The garden is a delight, steps lead to an outdoor shower and pool, which is designed to sit comfortably, have a drink or read and watch the sunset. The property is just minutes from the village and close to the coast and its activities and services.

Casa Almendra is surrounded by a garden which has a large variety of trees and plants. The main screened in porch to enjoy the shade and equipped with a table and four chairs for dining outside. There is also a barbecue and utensils. On the front deck there are four chairs. Steps lead down from the garden and pool. On the pool deck there are four sunbeds tan. This deck is partially shaded by an ancient carob tree. The second bedroom opens onto a small courtyard and a large patio shaded by a huge oak tree Spanish 300 years old. Another path and steps lead by an outdoor shower surrounded by jasmine and cypress and also at the pool. The oval shaped pool has a current seat all around. The gardens themselves are surrounded by wild vegetation that is a haven for birds.

Located on the border of National Park of Almijara and Sierra Tejeda you have endless opportunities to venture to discover the fauna and flora. You will see all kinds of birds, smallest to hawks and eagles, chameleons even venture into the garden and you may see also a boar trotting down the road. The area is ideal for hiking and excursions, such as the four-hour climb to the summit of Maroma mountain that starts in the center of the village of Canillas de Aceituno. It is also possible to go horseback riding in the national park or biking on mountain roads. The wild and pure beauty of the surroundings offer wonderful possibilities for photographers and painters. If you like more relaxing holiday there are good restaurants in all the local villages nearby and good shopping to do in Velez-Malaga and Torre Del Mar, which also host an excellent market on Thursday. During the summer months there are festivals and local celebrations almost every weekend in different villages and towns all around. Canillas de Aceituno is one of the most picturesque and has two good restaurants and a lot of beautiful little bars, various small shops selling everything you need during your vacation, two banks, a well-stocked pharmacy and a post office. The people are friendly and welcoming although the village is not very 'touristy'. If you need a larger supermarket you will find several in Torre Del Mar, where it is worth taking time in some small establishments where you will find excellent fresh vegetables, meat and seafood.

The coast and nearest beach are those of the lovely Spanish resort of Torre Del Mar. The city offers excellent sandy beaches, restaurants of quality seafood and many specialty shops. There is also the golf Baviera. The coast is about 30 minutes from the property.

Velez Malaga, the largest city in the area, has an old neighborhood to visit.

Malaga with its great cathedral and the Picasso Museum is also a must visit.

The villa is located approximately 2 hours from the Sierra Nevada and its ski resort. Malaga airport is around 45 minutes.

We strongly recommend to have a car for your stay. There are many car rental agencies located at Malaga airport.

Very nice situated Finca

  • 5 of 5

We stayed as a couple at this very nice place and enjoyed it every single day. The site lies a bit far-off and it takes about a bit more then a half hour to get there from Torre del Mar. If you intend to go to the beaches or to explore the area every day it could be a bit to devious. And not everyone will enjoy as we did the condition of a part of the path to the site. But if you want to calm down and enjoy the peace and quiet this is the place for you. It is like a green oasis with two terraces wich provide partially natural shade from the trees and bushes. You can find on the site even grapes, almonds and pomegranate trees. We recommend the place!

Owner's Response: We're very happy to hear that our place pleased you. You're right: it is a place far-off the tourism of the coast sometimes too noisy... Take care and come back whenever you want!

Fantastic Location!!

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was as described with the most beautiful views over the mountains.

There were 'snake' eagles flying over the cottage daily and we spotted vultures, bee eaters, blue rock thrush, spotted fly catchers just to name a few. There were lizards out in the garden day and night and to top it off after lights went down there were bats flying past.

The sunrises and sunsets were spectacular and what a way to see them but sitting relaxing in the pool or on the terraces.

There were lots of native fauna however I am not very green fingered so not sure what they were but some were unusual and beautiful.

The cottage was clean and spacious with all facilities as described, appropriate for a family of three.

Would definitely recommend a visit to anyone if they want a quite relaxing holiday in a part of Spain that has not been ruined by tourism. The local shops, cafes and restaurants in Canilas de Acetunia and Competa were well stocked and very cheap for eating out and shopping.

Lovley views but a disappointing stay

  • 3 of 5

I will start by saying the views from the cottage are lovely and the cottage itself was nice and clean.

The location is OK - 10 mins drive to the village and 20 mins drive to the coast, there is nothing within walking distance.

However....we were disappointed to find that the canvas which covered the outside terrace (shown in the images) wasn't there which meant we couldn't sit on that part of the terrace as it was far too hot without shade.

There was also no sun umbrella (also shown in the images) so we couldn't sit down by the plunge pool as again, it was far too hot without suitable shade.

There are 4 sun loungers all of which are very old and broken with disgusting covers on them so we had to use our own towels.

No beds weren't made and the bedding that was supplied was cheap and there were only two pillows.

I contacted the 'manager' who came over and told me she was just the cleaner, shrugged her shoulders and left!

I contacted the owner and asked for a partial refund due to the cottage not being as shown and they have refused.

Note to anyone else giving consideration to renting this cottage - please make sure you are happy with the above before parting with your money.

Owner's Response: First, please note that this guest has asked for a partial refund threatening me in posting a bad review: isn’t it close to blackmail? I just can't accept these criticisms: The large terrace is entirely covered with a roof and providing a very huge shade all over the dining table, only the little sun deck is not covered with the canvas that have been broken with the recent winds. There is no sun umbrella on the pool deck because the natural shade of the big carob tree is much better than an umbrella! This tree has fruits that stain the lounger covers, which is not "disgusting"... No comments with the problem for not being a manager but only a house-cleaner…

Lovely views!

  • 5 of 5

Peaceful remote location surrounded by nice villages and restaurants. Close to lots of areas to hike and photo opportunities. Villa has lots of character with a nice garden path to the pool. It also has a great view from the balcony.

Fantastic retreat

  • 5 of 5

A lovely countryside cottage in a beautiful garden with fantastic views. Everything needed was in the cottage, which was very clean, comfortable and ideal for a family holiday. Older children will like the fact that they can lock themselves away in the second bedroom (self contained) and not be disturbed! Close enough to the coast and Malaga for some variety, try Almayate for a quiet beach, and also within striking distance of Granada and the wonderful Alhambra. But relaxing on the patio and next to the pool was an equally excellent way to spend some time in the sun.
