The chalet was exactly as we expected - the pictures online were accurate. Plenty of space for 4 of us. Beautiful location on the water.

Exactly as described

We stayed here for the Door County Century in September, as we needed a pet-friendly place to stay. The cottage is as described on the website. There is no air conditioning, but the owners provide several fans to use in the cottage.

Nice quiet getaway!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for a couple days with our two young children. Overall we really enjoyed it, but as parents of small children there are a few things we wish would have been more clear.

1) There's no bathtub, only a stall-type shower. Our 3yo had never taken a shower before and he threw a fit about it. Thankfully, it was easy to bathe our 9 month old in the kitchen sink.

2) The loft above the living room with the twin beds was pretty neat, but we didn't feel comfortable having our 3yo sleep up there alone (potential climbing/fall hazard) so my husband stayed up there with him. It would be great for older kids though.

3) The blinds do not block light out very well at all, so it was very bright in the cabin even at 5:30am. Which meant our kids thought it was time to party VERY early. If we came back here, I would come prepared with some way to black out at least the bedroom window.

We also wish it would have been more clear that you have to bring your own towels -- not just bath towels, but kitchen towels and a hand towel for the bathroom. I'm not sure why the resort provides clean sheets but not clean towels. Seems like it wouldn't be that much extra work to include both.

Those things aside, however, the cabin was the perfect size for us. The resort is so quiet, the playground was great, and my husband and older son really enjoyed fishing off the well-maintained pier. The fire pit was beautiful too, although we didn't have a chance to use it. We would come again!

Owner's Response: Dear Laura R., Thank you for your response to your stay at Chalet cottage and your concerns about vacationing with small children. I'm sorry you didn't realize Chalet doesn't have a shower. We have always tried to include all our amenities on our listing, and to that end, we have a photo of the bathroom with a new shower and also have a shower listed in the amenities. I noticed a photo of the loft is not currently included in our listing. I will replace that photo. There is a gate at the top of the loft stairs but children 3 and under still may not be appropriate for sleeping in the loft without a parent. A possible alternative would be using the new king size sofa sleeper in the living room. Our linen service does not launder towels so we ask our guests to bring towels. I will include kitchen and hand towels in the request. We have a clothesline or a deck railing, depending on the cottage, to hang wet items. I am glad you were able to enjoy some of our amenities for small children, including the play yard and sand box and that you plan to return to Sunset Shores Resort. I appreciate your taking time to write your suggestions so we can make Chalet cottage a great getaway for all ages!

Nice Stay

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for a weekend, and it was very enjoyable. It was perfect for what we needed, as we didn't spend much time there, as we were out and about quite a bit. My only compliant is that we didn't know that we needed to bring hand soap for the bathroom. It was nice being near the lake, even though it was too cool to use the boats and what not. Would stay here again.
