About Ben

Welcome to our property! Ben is a recently re-purposed fire fighter and river guide. Casey works at the local hospital. While we are both transplants from the lower 48 (Ben from Grand Junction, CO and Casey from outside of Chicago), we feel privileged to call Alaska our home.

Ben purchased this cottage in 2017

Why Ben chose Wasilla

Casey and I traveled around the Palmer, Chugiak, and Wasilla area to find a place that was near amenities but also near recreational opportunities. It had to be in the woods but near the hospital so the Casey could access work. We initially visited on a lark but Casey and I after seeing the property were in agreement that we should live here. This location has all the qualities we needed and wanted from a place to live and a place to access all the recreation and adventuring that we do.

What makes this cottage unique

We both have nomadic souls and constantly feel pulled to fully immerse ourselves in every place we visit. On just about every trip we take, we have the “could we live here?” talk, often at the local brewery. It has been hard to choose a place to settle down, but Palmer has provided the perfect ground to put down our roots. The Mat-Su Valley is a great base from which to explore the last frontier. So many activities are accessible within minutes- hiking, running, skiing, fishing, climbing rock, climbing ice, biking, kayaking, packrafting, etc. We also love to road trip with our camper. Within 5 hours we can get to Homer for halibut fishing, Kenai for fly fishing, Seward for sea kayaking, Girdwood for some resort skiing and great live music, Denali Park for our wilderness fix, Talkeetna for our favorite coffee and pastries, or Valdez to ascend some world class frozen waterfalls. And to top it all off, our local community of friends anchors us in to this abundant life we live in what is truly one of the world’s most beautiful landscapes.

Beautiful cottage with a lovely view

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in the cottage. It's very clean and had everything we needed. Comfortable beds, plenty of towels, stocked kitchen, there were even birthday candles and cake pans that made it possible for us to bake a birthday cake to celebrate my grandson's first birthday! Close enough to Palmer to make grocery runs when needed, but we felt like we were in the middle of nowhere. We hope to go back again! Diane was very pleasant, easy to work with, and responded quickly when I sent emails with questions.

Fabulous Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Its all about the view!

Our first visit to Alaska and what a fabulous place to stay. The Cottage was perfect. Virtually brand new with everything a visitor could need. Did I mention the view? The design and placement of the cottage maximized the view of the mountains and the forest. We have stayed in dozens of VRBO/HomeAway and similar rentals but nothing beats Rose Ridge for the view. Finally the icing on the cake was an evening visit from a cow moose and her young calf.

Beautiful views and very nice house

  • 5 of 5

The property feels new and clean (newer appliances too). The views are amazing. It is perfect for a group of 2-4 people. The location is good for exploring Hatchers Pass and not too far from downtown Palmer. We would stay here again.

This vacation cottage beats every place we have ever stayed on VRBO. Super clean and bright!! All the comforts of home with an incredible view. Diane and David have gone the extra mile in making this cottage feel like home. We would not hesitate to stay there again if the opportunity arises. It was close to lots of attractions. Our favorite part of our trip was riding the Alaska Railroad Hurricane Turn Train. Will never forget it. After long days of site seeing, it was nice to come back to an incredibly cozy home away from home. Thanks Diane and David!!!! PS. We really appreciated the room darkening shades in the bedroom as it was still daylight at 11 pm which we are definitely not used to!!

Super Location & Views!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a month at Rose Ridge Cottage and absolutely loved it! It was centrally located to all the places we wanted to see in Alaska, but very private. We traveled to the Arctic Circle, south to Seward and over to Valdez. It was close to Palmer and not far from Wasilla for any shopping needs. The cottage was very clean and well maintained, having everything you needed and some. We enjoyed the awesome mountain views and the visits from the moose and her calf. We were only an hour away from a great fishing spot on the Little Su for the salmon runs. Thanks, David & Diane, for the wonderful stay and helping to make our first visit to Alaska awesome!
