Best Paris Apartment Ever!

  • 5 of 5

As others have already said, Nathalie's apartment is a gem. Beautifully appointed, spacious and comfortable for the four of us. The unique architectural features were an added plus and the light in the apartment was extraordinary. From one of the bedrooms there is even a view across the rooftops to Sacre Coeur in Montmartre and the Pantheon in the Latin Quarter.

The location in the Bastille is very convenient - a real neighborhood with local amenities like the Carrefour next store and great cafes serving excellent and reasonably-priced food and wine mere blocks away. The metro station is also close by. So you can enjoy Paris without all of the tourist activity and yet get to the major attractions in just a few minutes. Maps and guide books were on the bookshelves, including a Paris Pratique that was invaluable in helping us find our way around the city.

Nathalie was very gracious when we arrived before expected because our flights were early. We were able to leave our bags at the apartment and have breakfast at the bistro across the street while the apartment was made ready for our use.

I would definitely stay here again if I were to return to Paris. It was the first visit to Paris for each of us and we all fell in love with the city. Nathalie's wonderful apartment was the icing on the gateau!

La belle maison!

  • 5 of 5

Where do I begin? My first impression of Nathalie's apartment had nothing to do with the apartment and everything to do with Nathalie. She was incredibly prompt in answering questions and working with us to make sure we had the best stay possible. Our group involved two families both with two children each. The kid's ages ranged from 10 yrs to 4 yrs old. One group arrived from America and the other from Africa. Nathalie helped us with allowing a slightly early check in to drop off luggage and relax. She also provided so many excellent recommendations and tips that our arrival and travel went as smoothly as one could expect.

The apartment is perfect for a family or even two! It is comfortable and compelling with its architecure and design and balances this with a welcoming invitation to relax and make the place your own. The kitchen and dining area served our needs well as did the grocery store located on the ground floor of the building. Sleeping arrangements were comfortable and cozy. There are two toilets, one shower and one lovely claw foot bath. The glass shower is downstairs and my American tendencies came in to play as there is no curtain on the full size window that overlooks several buildings, which admittedly are far away. But when in Paris... Honestly it didn't bother me at all but some people might be more modest.

The neighborhood is safe and centrally located. We walked everywhere we went, averaging about 10 miles a day, but the Metro is a short walk in either direction, and taxi's are easily had. There are so many unique and compelling shops and restaurants in the area that we never felt pressed for anything.

An added bonus was Nathalie's daughter, who is studying Art History at the Sorbonne gave us a personalized tour of the Louvre focusing on French history and ancient Egypt. Her art knowledge is on point as her grasp of history. She also speaks almost perfect English with a lovely French accent.

While I speak basic French I found no issues at all communicating with the peole in Paris. Parisians were gracious to us, inviting, welcoming and warm. My boys talk about the trip almost daily!

I felt Nathalie was a friend who I just met. She's lovely and I honestly invited her family to visit me in where I live as I want to return the hospitality we so much enjoyed and appreciated.

Sincerely,

PJ

Owner's Response: Dear PJ, All these comments are so nice of you ! thank you so much... I am very happy that you enjoyed Paris, and the Louvre, and the neighbourhood and the flat. And I will forward your review to my darling daughter : I think she will just print it ! I couldn't help laughing when I read that, not being french, you were kind of embarrassed using a bathroom wtih no curtains in : I just imagined you "effarouché comme une vierge et tout nu devant des Parisiennes !". Sorry for that... Anyway, the curtains are there now, in fact you arrived just a few days after we re-did the bathroom and did not found the proper size before your arrival. I would love my family to meet yours in the US at your place : this so very kind... and promise, you will practice your french ! Thanks again, dear PJ. It is a real happiness to meet guests like you. Your friend Nathalie

Close to the Metro and places to buy provisions but in a real Paris neighborhood. It has wonderful energy...you can tell a family was raised in this flat. It worked perfectly for our extended family of eight.

Living like a Parisian

  • 5 of 5

Our family spent a week in Nathalie's wonderful apartment. A bright and sunny apartment with plenty of room to relax, we quickly discovered the many merchants and markets within a few blocks of the apartment. The neighborhood is quiet with very few tourists... within hours you feel like a local. Within the surrounding area, there are many restaurants and cafes to explore, as well as VERY EASY access to the Metro. For our last night in Paris, we prepared a feast of vegetables and seafood we picked up at Le Marche Rue d'Aligre... magazine worthy, it was the perfect ending to an amazing stay.

What an amazing stay.

  • 5 of 5

Our crew: me, wife, four kids, wife's parents. Plenty of room for all of us. Everyone loved the apartment. Great kitchen for cooking and thus saving a couple euros versus eating out every meal. Terrific location. Easy walk to multiple metro stations. We used busses too, super easy. Many, many great places to eat nearby. Lots of grocery stores in the area too. We loved that we weren't surrounded by tourists whenever we stepped outside. Police station in the area. We felt very safe, even after dark. Nathalie and her daughter were wonderful. Friendly and so very helpful with quick responses to every email-before, during, and after our trip. Would absolutely stay here again.

Owner's Response: I am very glad that the whole family enjoyed the stay in our flat. And you are right, the police station is a block away... I never mentionned that, but I understand it made you feel even safer in this safe part of the city. Come back soon and enjoy again cooking in the kitchen... and having great time in the restaurants around. A bientôt !

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in Nathalie's beautiful apartment with my family -- 7 adults in total -- and we all loved it. It's beautiful, very open, with great views and light. I thought it was bigger than the photos made it look. The neighborhood is perfect -- it has plenty of great restaurants and shopping nearby without being touristy.

Nathalie was a great host. She communicated clearly and showed us around the apartment herself, gave us excellent restaurant recommendations, and was overall just very friendly and helpful. We loved staying here and would do it again!

The trendy Bastille area is well known for its “chic-bohemian” style, full of outdoors cafés, restaurants and clubs. You will also find traditional shops : cheese shops, butchers, chocolatiers, charcutiers. Within 5 minutes walk is the famous Rue de Lappe, with its many ethnic restaurants and pubs, famous since the bal musette or danceballs of the 1930s “gai Paris” frequented between the wars by Edith Piaf, Jean Gabin and Rita Hayworth. A few streets away, you will also enjoy the famous Food market “Marché d’Aligre”, both outdoor and indoor. It opens every morning except on Mondays and offers great food at amazing prices. Customers can find fresh fruit, fish, meat, cheese and bread along with clothing and typical flea market items. Parisians lining up around the best fruits and vegetable stalls meet friends, also talk to people they don’t know and joke with the stall holders.

In the vicinity, you may also enjoy movie theaters displaying films in English.

Other Activities: Once you are in Paris, offer you a lovely day in stunning VERSAILLES. Visit the CHATEAU, the TRIANON, the beautiful gardens. You will reach the royal city of Louis XIV within 50 mn, using an RER ride.
