Thank you so much for the complimentary review. It was great meeting the family. I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. Hope to see you again.
My husband and I spent Thanksgiving in Brooklyn, and stayed in Linda's lovely second-floor brownstone apartment. We knew we wanted to be in the Bed-Stuy neighborhood, and Linda's unit was just what we needed -- clean, spacious, affordable, and close to the Utica subway stop and neighborhood restaurants. Linda is a charming person, and wonderful to work with -- we will definitely be back. :-)
If you plan to spend time in Manhattan, learn the difference between local and express trains, and take the subway. The A and C lines that stop at the Utica station are great, and if they don't head where you want to go, you can probably transfer at JaySt./Metro Tech. We purchased the 7-day unlimited cards for $31 each, and zipped all over the city for three days. The Utica station entrance is 4 blocks south of Macon, down Stuyvesant St., inside a small park.
There are plenty of nice restaurants, coffee shops, and bodegas near this apartment. We loved everything about Peaches restaurant (cheesy grits -- fabulous!); at Saraghina the pizza was great, but we felt uncomfortably jammed in and it was quite noisy.
If you plan to go to a Broadway show, you can get discounted tickets online with todaytix.com. A uniformed agent will meet you outside of the theatre, 30 minutes before showtime, with your tickets.
Other recommendations: the "Vertical Tour" of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine (followed by lunch at Community Food and Juice), any of the tours at the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, walking tours with New York Tour1, pastries at Ferrara's in Little Italy. Have fun!
We enjoyed staying in Linda's brownstone. It is in very good condition considering how old the brownstones are. The only caution I make is the stairwell is steep & narrow and would be challenging for elderly people.
Linda was always there for us if we had questions or concerns. We would stay there again. We love Brooklyn!
I've stayed in other VRBO's in Bed Stuy because my daughter lives there. This one is my favorite, and I will definitely return. Linda is an exceptional host. She makes herself available in a very efficient way. The apartment is beautiful and spacious. We were perfectly comfortable. I Highly recommend this rental!!!
We absolutely enjoyed our stay in this lovely little house. In fact, I would rather say "this large house" as it is much larger than it looks on the photos. The lounge and the bedroom are very roomy. We loved the "american bar" style for our meals. That was a new experience for us. The house is well equipped for a short stay (big fridge, big oven, micro-wave oven, kettle, coffee machine, etc). Maybe for a longer stay one would miss a washing machine, or would have to use the launderette.
Linda is a very friendly and very welcoming host. She gives a lot of hints on the things to do, places to see in Brooklyn and how to get there (we loved Dumbo, and the Promenade). The fact that she leaves on the 1st floor is also very reassuring.
We had a rental car, and we never had a problem to find a parking space, not always right in front of the house, but never too far. We used our car to drive up to the Brooklyn Bridge, would park there, and walk accross the bridge into Manhattan, and walk around Lower Manhattan. The car park was 27$ for 10 hours, compared to the 5,5$ each (22$ for us 4) by train. So we cannot tell about the comfort/safety/efficiency of the train.
Would defenetly recommend this place for a visit to New York
We were impressed by this apartment and loved the mix of original features and modern décor. Linda was very helpful throughout and a pleasure to deal with. The location itself was very convenient for New York with the express train at Utica Ave just 5 minutes walk away. The air conditioning worked well and was most appreciated. The apartment offered excellent value for money and I would not hesitate in recommending it to others. Thanks Linda :)
My husband and I had a five-night stay during a very hot time in July. The A/C worked well and we were able to cool the apartment down quickly when we returned at the end of the day. It's a wonderful location, on a quiet street, within walking distance of several wonderful restaurants as well as the subway. Linda is a thoughtful, helpful host, and we are happy to recommend her property.
