About the property

Beautiful, waterfront home on the Susquehanna River, known as Lake Aldred. Private dock for you to bring your own boat (seasonal). Relax on the 600sf, covered cedar deck; featuring a wet bar, Weber propane grill, Flat panel TV with cable and barstool seating. Dining table, and additional seating for you to enjoy your meal as you watch an incredible sun, set over the lake in the front yard. Or, escape to the yard which includes a picnic table, Adirondack chairs and additional seating, surrounding a fire pit. Bring your binoculars because you're sure to see American Bald Eagles soaring overhead. There are 8 protected eagles nests on the lake! The private side deck features a 4 person hot tub and outdoor shower.

This home has lots of history and character. Originally a fishing lodge over 100 years ago, later the Pequea Tavern in the 70's. After several changes in ownership, the tavern was officially closed and renovated into an amazing home by a local contractor. The home features a spacious and open floor plan with 4000 sf of living space. The living room features a large stone fireplace as well as a coal stove and plenty of room on the enormous couch to relax with friends and family. Bose stereo system has speakers inside, as well as outside on the deck and hot tub area. Easily connect your cell phone to stream Pandora or play playlist. Game closet with all of the favorites, like Pictionary and Scrabble, along with a wii game system. The dining room has incredible views of the lake from the front counter seating that lines the window line, or the dining room table. The table expands to seat 12 comfortably. The original bar from the tavern still resides (minor facelift) and can also seat another 5. The large kitchen is fully equipped with 2 full-sized refrigerators, dishwasher, gas stove, microwave, pots & pans, about everything you need.

The first floor master bedroom features a king sized bed, view of the lake, a custom spa-shower, plenty of closet space and a flat panel w/ cable. Off the master is a full laundry room with washer & dryer. Back stairs from the 1st floor master leads to a semi-private "5th bonus bedroom" with a double bed and original restored wood floors (because this is not a private room, we chose to not list it in the room count).

2nd Floor:

The second floor boasts a "2nd" master bedroom with king size bed, carpet, full bath, flat panel w/cable and a queen sized futon. Views of the lake from the window too! Full bath with shower is located in this room.

Also on the 2nd floor is another full bathroom w/oversized shower/tub combo and custom tile.

3rd bedroom has a queen size memory mattress bed, original restored wood floors, vaulted ceiling, walk-in closet w/ twin roll-away bed and an amazing lake view. Flat panel w/HDMI cable to connect a laptop.

4th bedroom has a queen sized bed, exposed brick chimney, carpet, flat panel w/cable, walk-in closet w/a twin roll-away bed as well.

The home is nestled between the Safe Harbor Dam and the Holtwood a tour of these hydroelectric plants. Tube down the Pequea Creek during the summer months.

About Tom & Allison

Born and raised in Lancaster County, we now reside in Maryland. We enjoy traveling and often use VRBO to find our destination. We've stayed in amazing homes, mediocre homes and homes that scared the children! We've made a true effort to take all of our experiences to make our rental home an amazing one for the families that visit. We appreciate feedback, both good and bad. We will make every effort to have a clean, comfortable and relaxing place for you and your friends & family.

Tom & Allison purchased this house in 2016

Why Tom & Allison chose Pequea

We decided to purchase it, due to it's great location and uniqueness. We've enjoyed redecorating it with a "local flare" to highlight the Lancaster County area. Near and dear to our hearts, the purchase of the home brought us back to our "roots". Being able to add furnishings that have been in our family for a hundred years has been enjoyable. You will surely love the home and hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

What makes this house unique

Newly renovated throughout, keeping the old charm with modern touches. Large fire pit with river views, huge covered deck with wet bar, spacious home in every aspect, river views from almost every room in the house and breath taking sunsets over the river. Wonderful to be able to walk out the dock and jump onto the boat at private dock.

**Please be aware, there are train tracks in the front of the home. We do not know the train normally does not travel during the day. In our experience, it comes through about once between 7pm-9pm. Through the night, it could come by once or several times. Most people find this a fun event, and it makes for great pictures. If you're fortunate to catch it come through while snowing, during the have your very own Polar Express. If the windows are closed, chance won't wake up. If they're open, there's a good chance you will.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Great location if you want to get away from it all while still being in a location accessible to fun things to do. Really enjoyed our stay.

My husband and stayed here for a week. I can't say enough about this amazing property!! We were looking for a relaxing week and that's what we got. The house is very well stocked with everything you are going to need. We arrived on a Saturday and went to get some groceries. We never left the house again until we checked out the following Friday. We did some fishing off the pier and lots of relaxing on the porch. The house was clean and well set up. The master bed was amazing comfortable and made it difficult to get up in the morning! Yes, there are trains that go by but they are not loud at all. Once we went to bed we never heard them. It was actually pretty neat watching them go by sitting on the porch. Highly recommend this property!! We will be back!

Wonderful Property

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay here. The house is very nice and has everything that you could possibly need. If you like being in the middle of nowhere with an awesome view, this is for you. I know some people complained about the train but it didn’t wake any of us up in the night. It kind of added to the charm for us. Some places we have rented, the kitchen only had the most basic items. This kitchen was stocked very well.

Absolutely perfect for our family of 13 for Thanksgiving/Christmas celebration

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful, memory making Thanksgiving/Christmas weekend we had in Pequea! The home was immaculate, with a well stocked kitchen with everything you could possibly need. Beds were super comfy...there is beautiful view of the river. Yes, the train went by several times a day... but the kids loved it! Estee, the local contact for the home was so helpful and gave us lots of info regarding the area..... where to find trails and beautiful views. The large dining room table seated all 13 of us comfortably and we spent hours sitting there eating, playing games, having wonderful conversations around wine and coffee ...but mostly eating. My daughter thanked me for picking the perfect place for our reunion....she said as we left, that she felt like she was in a Hallmark movie all weekend. We hated to see our time there end. The fact we had perfect fall weather was an added bonus too! One night we had a nice campfire and of course we made smores. Thank you Tom, Allison and Estee for having the house tastefully decorated for made our celebration on Friday that much more fun. We hope to be back someday!

Beautiful welcoming home

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 10 stayed in this wonderful home very comfortably, twice now! Between the stocked kitchen (complete with second fridge - it's amazing how much we eat on a girls' weekend!), the comfy beds and overall warm inviting feel of this house, we wanted to move in. We even saw Bald Eagles and hawks fly overhead! Tom and Allison are the perfect hosts. We look forward to another visit.

Awesome House...terrible location

  • 3 of 5

We (7) stayed at this house for an administrative meeting.

This house was clean, very spacious and had a great set up for a working environment. There were some small issues like the fireplace didn't work and it was cold, there are cats that live outside on the porch and there were a lot of flies in the house. We didn't have the doors open, so I have no idea where they came from, but it was pretty gross. If you're allergic to cats, you may want to reconsider this house. My allergies were in full force because of the cat dander that must be in the cushions outside. Lastly, there are train tracks out front and the train goes ALL night long. Its incredibly loud and makes sleeping impossible if you're a light sleeper. You're basically in the middle of nowhere too. We ordered Pizza and it was an hour round trip. While the house was amazing, there were some challenges, which is why only 3 stars.

** There are train tracks in front of the house, between the road and water. CTX cargo trains run through. There is no set schedule. The train usually does not run during the day. Usually it will come through once in the evening (7pm-9pm) and then will run a fe times in the night (could be once, could be more). In our stays there, the most in one night was 5 times. With the windows closed, you really don't hear it. Most people find this an "event" as we do....the kids can't wait for it to roll through. It makes for great pictures & video and if you get to see it come through at night, with snow's like the Polar Express.
