Maison Valois is a charming stone-built village house that has architectural characteristics typical of this area. Located in a private gated courtyard on a quiet village street, the house has a large living room with a wood stove, a dining area that looks across the fields and vineyards, and a large garden where you can enjoy the spectacular views.
The kitchen is large, airy and stocked with all the equipment you need to create your meals made with ingredients that you purchased at the market or at one of the many excellent grocery stores in the local area. There is a dishwasher in the kitchen, and a washing machine and dryer in the utility room next to the kitchen.
Downstairs, you will find one bedroom with a king sized bed and one bathroom, and upstairs there are 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms. The master bedroom has a king sized bed and an en suite bathroom. There is also a second living area that is perfect for reading and relaxing.
Outside, there is a covered seating area for 8 people and a BBQ, so you can enjoy your al fresco meals come rain or shine. The views across to the fields and vineyards are spectacular, and the garden is large and private - perfect for playing badminton or soccer! There are 7 bicycles that are at your disposal - 3 adult bikes and 4 children's bikes - the country roads are quiet and perfect for exploring local villages.
The house is enhanced by antique furniture that is from the region. Recent renovations and updated decor will make your stay memorable while you relax in this spacious and comfortable Burgundy country house!
We both grew up in Europe -- Daniel in Holland and Juliet in England -- and we now live in Austin, Texas. Travelling in Europe has been a priority for our vacations, and a few years ago, we decided that we really enjoyed the Burgundy region of France for the authentic rural lifestyle, friendly people, beautiful countryside and fascinating places to visit. So we decided to buy a house in Burgundy!
Juliet Tapia purchased this house in 2011
When we made our decision to purchase a house in France, Maison Valois was the first house that we viewed, and we immediately decided it was perfect for us and anyone who shared our appreciation for the beauty and tranquility of the French countryside. The house is very comfortable and has a warm atmosphere that tells us that many generations have lived there happily. The village is friendly, safe and quiet, and is located within an easy 10 minute drive of a charming market town that provides guests with all the necessary amenities. We have enjoyed furnishing the house with a combination of authentic French antiques and contemporary comforts. We hope you enjoy your experience in Maison Valois!
The house is spacious and charming, just as it appears in the listing description and photos. There are two very comfortable living rooms, which made it ideal for a family group with teenagers! The shower rooms are newly fitted and clean, with an abundance of fluffy towels. Even in autumn, we had some really warm afternoons, so sitting out to have an aperitif and admire the misty sunset was a joy. A good spot for star-gazing too, as there is so little artificial light around.
It was great to have a good restaurant in the village (La Marmite) - although it is best to book as the opening hours are unpredictable. (Steak and duck cooked in front of you on an open fire...) Fontenay Abbey, Dijon and Troyes are all within an easy drive for a day trip, and the local town, Chatillon-sur-Seine, seems sleepy on first impression, but the patisserie and bar/cafe near the cathedral were both friendly and enjoyable places to be. The Source of the Douix is a magical spot just ten minutes' walk from the town centre. The roads are quiet and great for cycling.
The owner gives a prompt, professional and friendly response to emails, and was very helpful in sending details of suitable activities in the area. It was a novelty to stay in a gite without a big list of instructions! Unreserved recommendation.
Thank you for a very lovely house! It was a very nice athmosphere there. All our friends enjoied it. It was clean and well-maintained, we had all the necessary things, very nice design of old french house, romantic surround. We advice it as a place for a nice fire with your friends or families. Alsough a nice place to stay with kids. The village is very quite and romantik, you can make a lot of beautiful pictures in the house and also in the surround. We wanted to stay longer...
But we will surelly be back :)

This is a comfortable and beautifully designed place. It is very well equipped, spotlessly clean and perfectly located. The location is convenient to explore beautiful burgundy, amazing surroundings, and so much to see, visit and yet feeling un-rushed. Really enjoyed our stay, and definitely be back soon.
This is our second visit to this rental. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better, the owners made some major improvements to the upstairs living area. The bedroom, sitting area and bathrooms are very large and spacious and the bed is very comfortable. We love this house and went out of our way to make a second visit. There is a lot to visit in the region and the house is centrally located. We also enjoyed walking around the local area...bicycles are available. Sitting on the terrace, looking out over the vineyards, watching the sunset is a perfect way to close a day in Burgundy.
The pictures and descriptions are very accurate....a perfect house for a family....large area for children to play. Kitchen is well equipted.
The owners have provided a postcard size map and house information to take with you! Very convientant and useful!
Would definitely recommend this house! We look forward to another visit!
8 of us spent a wonderful week in this beautiful farm house. We had all that we needed, and everyone was comfortable. The area is quiet and calming, and the beautiful wheat fields are stunning! We took advantage of the swimming pond located 3 km away quite a bit, and ate at the restaurant on the premise twice. The food was very good and more than affordable. We also took advantage of walking maps available at the tourism office in Chatillon-sur-Seine. We discovered some beautiful areas that way! All in all, a wonderful family retreat. Thank you!
The house is located in an authentic and characterful village on the Route de Cremant in the Cote d'Or region of Burgundy. Strolling around the village, you will see a church that is on the list of Historical Monuments of France, a chateau, an ancient 'lavoir' (wash house), a tree-lined river, vineyards and a winery that produces and sells Cremant, the sparkling white wine of Burgundy. The house is equipped with 5 bicycles, so feel free to cycle into the gently rolling countryside outside the village.
At a short 10 minute drive is the charming market town of Chatillon sur Seine, where you will find all the amenities that you need, including a bustling weekly market, large grocery stores, restaurants, a cinema and lots of little shops and businesses. Chatillon was a residence of the early dukes of Burgundy and has a beautiful 10th century church, interesting walks and historical streets and houses.
Many fascinating and beautiful sites are within an easy drive of the house, including the medieval towns of Dijon and Semur en Auxois, the ancient pilgrim destination of Vezelay, the 12th century Fontenay Abbey, and numerous chateaux and picturesque villages. And, of course, you are very well located for exploring the vineyards of the area, since you can tour the wine roads of the Cote de Nuits and Cote de Beaune to the south and the area of Champagne a few miles to the north of the house.
The area has many natural attractions, such as the Parc du Morvan, where you can hike, bike or picnic. Of course, you may wish to spend your days relaxing at the house, cooking a fine dinner and watching the star-studded night sky. There is so much to do and see in this wonderful area of France!
