This Farmhouse Cottage has been lovingly restored, retaining many original features including a stone 'feature' bread oven in the dinning room and a large cast iron wood-burning stove for cosy winter evenings. The many different patio areas surrounding the house have shady nooks for those siestas. The roof terrace with breathtaking views of the hills is the perfect place for a sundowner with amazing sunsets. There is a large patio area with a stone built barbecue and grape vine covered seating area. The ivy covered bench patio area is always shaded for a laid back lunch! The pool area has an elevated shaded area with pleasant views. The house is set in the countryside yet only minutes drive from Tavira, and is very private.

My wife and I are from UK. I am from Wales and met my wife in Reading while I was at university and she training to be a nurse. Our kids are now grown up and have families of their own.
Gerry Daughton purchased this cottage in 2010
We visited some friends in Tavira for a few days and were blown away by the laid back feel and atmoshere of the town, the beauty of the area, and not to mention the fabulous food and wine. We had absolutely no intention of looking for a place to buy but on passing an estate agents window a couple of properties caught our eye. Once we saw Casa Da Andorinhas we instantly fell in love with it and that was that. Since we bought it we have been improving it slowly, replacing the roof but in traditional cane and tile style and extending the main bedroom with an en-suite.
Rural, quiet, full of character, great views from the roof terrace, lots of areas around the house to chill out and yet close to the facilities in town, the hills for walking and pristine sandy beaches.
We had a wonderful time at Geralds Cottage. The house has a unique mediterranean style and a lot of nice corners to relax. Even during the hot summer days, we found enough shady spots and the air conditioned rooms provided for a good sleep. Tavira is not too far away and deserves some visits. All rounded up, it was a very pleasant stay, so we give this cottage 5 stars and hope we come back one day.
We loved this property. Its quiet location and beautiful garden with lots of choices of eating and lounging space made it perfect for 3 couples sharing. Plenty of car space and loads of seating meant we were never on top of each other and yet had loads of space to be together in the one space. We instantly felt that the villa was our home for the week. The local manager was very welcoming and was able to help us throughout the week with taxis etc. Lovely well maintained pool and gardens. Tavira and area had super beaches and great selection of places to eat and very reasonable prices.
This property was absolutely perfect! It was rural enough to be secluded but within 10/15mins drive from the town and nearby beaches. The pool is a good size and gated which was important for us. Great for families with small or older kids or simply as a quiet retreat. Thank you to Gerry for keeping in touch leading up to our hols and also to Carmen who made us feel very welcome on our arrival. We don't ususally return to the same holiday destination but I think this cottage might be the exception. I would definitely recommend the location and property.
With 2 young children and a hectic life in London we really need our holidays - Casa Das Andorinhas delivers the perfect combination of a tranquil yet beautiful base along with a wide range of great beaches and local cultural diversions almost on your doorstep.
We spend many hours roaming around the gardens, picking figs, pomegranetes, citrus fruits etc and dipping into the pool (which is surrounded by an expanse of decking which affords views across the valley). The nearby beaches are fantastic - soft sand and gently sloping - and Tavira offers plenty of choice in terms of quality food to purchase and then bbq at the cottage or to eat out.
We rarely return to a holiday cottage as we like to explore but we are returning for the third time this year - its become our banker as a guaranteed 2 weeks of full relaxation in the sun.
absolutely fantastic....private, secluded and a wonderful welcome ensured peace and serenity from day 1...a truly wonderful holiday, made easier by good information from Gerry
We were charmed by the house and this beautiful Portugal region. Everything was in line with expectations : quiet, comfort , decoration including a corner to meditate.
We hope to return one day.
Tavira is a lovely unspoilt Algarve town sitting on the river Gilao, with its own Fort. Spring and summer bring many local festivals, where areas around the many churches are decorated with paper flowers laboriously handmade by the locals and dancing through the night is common on these occasions! There is a wide choice of places to eat in Tavira, the local food is fantastic and fresh, especially the fish. Spain is only 30 minutes drive away, Ayamonti is a pretty town on the border with narrow cobbled streets and nice restaurants to enjoy some tapas. Villa Real on the Portuguese/Spanish border is famous for its linen and towels. The property is about 10 minutes from Tavira where there is a short ferry ride to the long sand bar island beach which has restaurants. There are many other pristine beaches which are pretty much deserted. Our favourite is Praia da Barril, which is gentle sloping, has great ‘sand-castle’ sand, and selection of restaurants at the back of the beach. You can access the beach on foot or on a small train, which is great for the kids.
A natural reserve is within walking distance where there is a picnic area, cafe and a board walk to the waterfall. There are golf courses within 15 minutes drive.
