Awesome family getaway

  • 5 of 5

Stayed 8/23/17 - 8/25/17. I can not say enough positive things about the owner or the property (and I only have 2490 characters). The owner is so incredibly helpful and gets back to you very quickly. I appreciated him helping us find activities to do in the area.

The house is quiet and remote without being too far from town. House was very clean and comfortable. When you walk in, the first thing you think is WOW, this place is awesome. We appreciated being able to have our dog with us. After all, she needs a vacation too! She enjoyed "woofin" on the property. We did keep her leashed so she would not bother the horses.

A BIG PLUS... we did not have cell service there (Verizon). My job always calls me when I am on vacation, this time they couldn't - yeah. We are a "geek" family and heavily into computers. This place was perfect for disconnecting and actually spending time with each other and relaxing. When we started to go through withdrawal, DirectTV and the WIFI worked very well. As a side note, Verizon didn't pick up too well in town either but you could drive around and find a signal.

Instead of playing on her tablet, my daughter played with the owner's horses. Her favorite part of this vacation was brushing the horses and feeding them apples and carrots. Instead of working on a program, my husband helped me carry the kayak and lounge chairs to the really cool sand bar and we enjoyed swimming and paddling around. Instead of checking my email to see what disaster laid ahead for me at work the next day, I sat in the hot tub enjoying a glass of wine and looking at the stars.

The mini horse there that thinks she is a dog and has to follow you everwhere. Even race you down to the river! She likes to taste things like your chair, your beer, your towel. She's super cute and offers a lot of laughs and entertainment.

One other note, to get down to the river you have to go down a pretty steep bank. It's gravel/rock and not a big deal for most but if you were elderly or have a mobility issue then you might need help getting down there.

Our time was unfortunately cut short by Hurricane Harvey (we live on the outskirts of Houston). We had to race the storm back before it hit. Luckily we made it through just fine.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful house with city dwellers like us that can only dream of amazing places like yours. Already planning our next visit!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for this amazing review! You guys were such a pleasure to have as guests and I was so grateful for the text letting me know that you made it back home safely. I hated that Hurricane Harvey cut your trip short, but that is all the more reason for you guys to come back soon. Since beginning this VRBO experience, I have found that most folks come as guests but often leave as friends, and I along with Emmy (the miniature pony) look forward to our friends "the City Dwellers" coming back soon...without a Hurricane interrupting their next vacation! Thanks again and see you soon. -Mike

Mike was awesome and responded to any questions immediately. The house is beautiful. We enjoyed hanging out on the river during the day and sitting out on the deck in the evening. Mike helped us arrange a shuttle from the house to a neighbors house nine miles up river and canoe/kayak (river level was very low so we had to drag the canoe a lot - we did not check the river level) back to his house. It is a beautiful quiet stretch of river.

We look forward to going again sometime!

Family Vacation or Romantic Getaway - You won't be disappointed

  • 5 of 5

We took our family there for a weekend getaway. Everyone had a great time. The property is very secluded so plan accordingly. Having said that, in my opinion the seclusion is a big part of the charm of this property. Even though we had cell phone reception, this is the kind of place you leave your phone at home, leave your cares and worries behind and just relax. The owner, Mike, even though he was away on his own vacation, was very responsive to our emails and texts and went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. Would definitely do this one again.

This place was great!

  • 5 of 5

My family and another family with young children stayed at this lovely cabin for a few days. Leading up to the trip, the owner, Mike, was very communicative and accommodating. He had excellent documentation outlining the specifics of the property and its amenities which we were able to look at before arriving.

Upon arriving, as soon as we got out of our cars after a seven hour drive, we were immediately struck by the pleasant smell of the outdoors which we don't experience in our suburban lives. The place made a fantastic impression that held true throughout our stay there. We were immediately greeted by a beautiful black horse and a friendly, miniature pony which lit up the smiles on our kids' faces. These horses were great with the kids and added so much to their enjoyment of the property.

The cabin itself is extremely comfortable and laid out well for what we needed. We were able to put several children in the big room upstairs and had plenty of room for the rest of us. We slept 4 adults, 6 children, and a baby without any problem. The kitchen had everything we needed, and there's a nice hot tub out on the patio. And speaking of the patio, we were able to show our children what a starry sky is supposed to look like without interference from light pollution.

The river is just a short walk down through the backyard, and there's a nice run of sandy bank from which you can fish, skip rocks, or go out in a kayak. The view of the river was everything we hoped it would be.

I'd definitely recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a relaxing time away from whatever hectic life you're leading right now. There was nothing about our stay at this cabin that wasn't a hit for everyone. And the owner is a kind person to boot which added to our positive experience.
