Our beautiful comfortable modern architecturally designed home is finished to a five star level & is available for weekly rent throughout the year. It will appeal to couples and families seeking peace, tranquility, comfort set in beautiful safe location. It has been designed in an open plan style. We have used high ceilings, large skylights & lots of glass to allow in as much light as possible and bring the magnificant river & mountain views right into the home. It is fitted throughout with allthe modern convienences you could want including SKY satellite TV and also has hi-speed wireless Internet for those who feel the need to keep in touch with the modern world. The house sleeps upto 8 adults in comfort and but can sleep upto 10 if needed. We have cot/crib for babies as well as a high chair. The house is naturally warm and has gas central heating for those chilly mornings. The rate we quote includes all utilities, linens and taxes, we do not charge extra.

The mature secure gardens feature a Liscannor stone patio outside the kitchen and living rooms allowing the large doors to be opened out on sunny days bringing the gardens and views into the home. A stone path makes its ways through the grass to a large wooden deck looking down onto the river below where a large BBQ allows for outdoor cooking & dinning. The garden and decking have outdoor lighting and an outdoor power supply.

Local amenities and activities include shops, supermarkets, restaurants, pubs, river cruising, fishing, sailing, canoing, walking, hiking, cycling, boat hire, golfing and much more. The purpose built tourist office is located on the historic 13 arch bridge that's links Ballina & Killaloe. It houses the tourist office, local library and the newly developed Brian Ború Centre. Every Sunday morning a local farmers market offering all sorts of local produce from food to gifts takes place 'between the waters' opposite the tourist office and should not be missed. Ballina has many good restaurants and pubs including the exceptional 'Cherrytree restaurant'. Killaloe has a network of charming narrow streets, flanked by old shops & houses, that climb up the steep hillside & look down over the 13th century cathedral. Water sports are the key to the popularity of Ballin & Killaloe. Boats of all kinds from rowing boats to Shannon cabin cruisers are available for hire and water-skiing has long been popular. Short tours of the River Shannon and Lough Derg are available from the Ballina side aboard the 50-seater passenger boat Spirit of Killaloe. During July the Brian Boru Festival brings traditional music and a variety of entertainment, inside and outside, to the towns for a week. Towards the end of July the Killaloe International Music Festival centered on the historic cathedral, concentrates on the classics and is growing in reputation around the world. Every September, Killaloe is the venue for the European Pike Angling Championships. The historic towns of Killaloe & Ballina offer an exceptionally beautiful riverside setting and access to Ireland’s greatest waterway. The River Shannon is a popular cruising, boating & angling destination extending from Donegal in the North, with canal extensions to Galway in the west, Dublin in the east and Waterford in the south extends to Limerick where it enters the Atlantic Ocean.

The property is located just 30 minutes from Shannon airport, 20 minutes from Limerick, 1 hour from Galway, 1 hour 45 minutes from Dublin Airport, it is an ideal base for exploring Ireland and it's Celtic heritage.

We look forward to welcoming you to this unique part of beautiful Ireland.

About David Gaughan

We are an Irish family living in the United Arab Emirates. We built this house as our home in 2000 and lived in it for 5 years prior to moving to Dubai where we now live. We decided to keep the house & rent it weekly to foreign visitors because we felt that its unique location and design offered something special and different to the decerning traveller. We have rented property all over the world and know what we like. We have put our experiences into the product that we offer, such as the unique touches you find in a home as opposed to your standard generic holiday rental and we do not charge extra for utilities and linen, it's all included in your quote.

David Gaughan purchased this house in 2000

Why David Gaughan chose County Tipperary

This property is not just a holiday rental, it is a home. It is fitted out to a 5 star level with all modern conveniences and top quality bedding and linens. Every room has a view, which believe or not is even beautiful in the Irish rain! The property is uniquely positioned within walking distance to great shops, pubs and restaurants but the main attraction is its tranquil location overlooking the beautiful River Shannon.

What makes this house unique

A great homely getaway with stunning views set in a quiet location guaranteed to relax you, yet only minutes walk from all the amenities you could require. The house is well positioned as a relaxing base to see all Ireland has to offer to the traveller.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We found it so easy to book this property. We arrived late in the evening and the directions given took us right to the door. Immediately felt at home, there was games and TV and videos for the kids plus a games room full of toys for the younger ones (4 Kids!). The house was Fabulous, spacious and welcoming. Great sized bedrooms with quality linens and loads of bathrooms. I loved the beautiful fully functioning kitchen and we relaxed outside and watched the sun set on the deck over a glass of wine.

The following days were spent visiting all the wonderful sights and attractions and we thought this property was such a perfect base from which to set off and return to. We had lunch most days on the road, but it was great to arrive home in the evening and prepare dinner as the kids played outside and my older teenagers walked to the local village for ice-cream. All very safe. Loved to sit and watch the boats move up and down the Shannon from the fabulous deck. Worst part was having to leave. We will be back…

Perfect Holiday Home

  • 5 of 5

We rented this fantastic house in October 2009 - 3 generations under one roof & we all had our own 'space'.The property was immaculate & does not want for anything - every requirement is catered for from kitchen equipment to household linens & even a BBQ in the beautiful private garden. The rain didn't matter as the views over the Shannon are breathtaking ( we saw 7 rainbows but were not quick enough to go over the bridge & reach the pot of gold ! ) Killaloe is a must to visit, quaint little shops, each owner willing to chat & pass the time of day - lovely old fashioned values still exist as you are even greeted by people you pass in the street. The Sunday market is well worth a visit followed by coffee in the Ponte Vechio coffee shop where the atmosphere is 'grand & Andrew will make you very welcome. The restaurant in Church Street is excellent especially Pie Night - you will need to book. Crotty's bar is full of character & serves good wholesome food. On the Ballina side Goosers is well worth a visit. We all really enjoyed our holiday & are unanimous that your lovely house must be re-visited as soon as possible - can't wait.

Amazing Holiday Home and Irish experience.....

  • 5 of 5

Perfect home for our first trip to Ireland! It was very comfortable, clean and the views are stunning. The owners made the process so easy. We flew into Shannon where we met another couple and rented a car. The somewhat central location of the home is perfect for daily excursions. Everywhere we visited was amazing....2 castles, one day of golf, a day in Dublin (Guinness tour), river dance lessons in Killaloe...:-), but then back to this wonderful home! Many great pubs and eateries nearby. A visit to The Pipers Inn is a must! This was a wonderful, once in a lifetime experience for us and we highly recommend the home. Thank you!

Beautiful and convenient location

  • 4 of 5

Me and my family were in town for a wedding and this house was perfectly located to all the wedding events. There is plenty to see and do within walking distance, as well. We also enjoyed the views from all the windows and doors looking out onto the river & hillsides.

The only suggestions I would have to make it a 5 star review would be:

1. The front door lock was temperamental, at times and may just need oiled, but was sometimes a pain when we were trying to get in from the rain/wind.

2. A little "spring cleaning" to remove some dust may be in order but for the most part the house was clean and tidy.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review, we take pride in making sure our guests enjoy the unique location and aspect of our property. I will have the maintenance man take a look at the door and rest assured a deep spring clean has been done in time for the busy summer season in stunning Ballina / Killaloe.

Perfect Family Getaway

  • 4 of 5

Having previously lived in Ireland, and visited in recent years, this was our first time staying with children. I must say that this was the perfect home-base for our family! The house was spacious enough for my family of 4 (2 adults, 1 child, 1 infant), my parents, and a friend. We all felt very comfortable in the home and not on top of each others' toes as you would in a hotel or bed and breakfast. The house also felt very much like a home which helped our kids adjust quite easily, not only to the time-change but also to being in a new place. Having visited in February, the weather was not particularly warm, so we were unable to spend much time in the back garden; however the views of the Shannon and the hills were stunning and beautiful. The accessibility of town was wonderful, as well. It was nice not to have to take a car everywhere and just spend some time locally - whether it be at a local pub or coffee shop, or taking the children to the playground (which they loved!).

The location of this house is in one of the more stunning areas of Ireland. Beautiful views all around, and just a short drive away from tourist destinations within Co. Clare or Tipperary. Cork is not too far either if you want to visit the Zoo there. My husband and I did an overnight stay in Dublin and even that was just a short 2 hr drive - really not far if you plan accordingly. The one place our kids loved was Bunratty Castle which is really only 20-30 min from house - definitely a tourist spot, but still fun and enjoyable for the whole family.

We would definitely recommend their home to friends and family, and would stay again ourselves. But, we are moving back to Ireland in 3 weeks, so we will have our own place to call home - if only we could live on the Shannon and have the stunning views as this home!

Beautiful family home on Shannon.

  • 5 of 5

I had family from three countries meeting to spend time together. The house was absolutely perfect, kid friendly, spotless, essentials such as laundry detergent were all stocked whenever we needed anything.

The view was what I consider essential Ireland, shades of green with the majestic Shannon disecting it in half, serene, beautiful.

We would have enjoyed ourselves but the house was the star of the trip.
