My family and business reside in Austin, TX... but our hearts are always in Kona, HI. We have loved the island and the waters that surround it for decades. When we visit our 'piece of paradise' we love to snorkel, paddle board, hike, cliff jump, and catch up with our good friends living on the rock.
Laura Weaver purchased this house in 2011
Kona Mountain Home and Cottage is very special... central to Kailua-Kona, easy access to all North and South Beaches, yet so remote the birds are louder than any vehicle traffic. KMH is nestled in the eco-minded development of Kaloko and the forest reserves on the slopes of Hualalai.
More than your run of the mill vacation rental... explore the island like a local. Kayaks and 6 person Hot Tub, Paddle and Surf Boards, Beach chairs and Shade canopies, Coolers and Snorkel gear... all for your use and enjoyment. Play, Explore, Relax @ Kona Mountain Home.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at KMH. I want to thank you for your special consideration given us post stay.I would certainly recommend your property to anyone considering a vacation to the Island of Hawaii.
Aloha! Where do I start? This property has it all! It is set on 3 lush acres with limes, oranges and coffee beans growing in the yard along with all sorts of tropical vegetation and flowers. The main house is gorgeous, cozy and decorated beautifully! The kitchen is very functional and has so many extras. Lots of grocery staples, seasonings, gadgets, appliances, Tupperware (for taking snacks to the beach)...the pantry is packed and the cookware was great! There is lots of storage space in the house, the floors are beautiful, the ceilings are beautiful...I am ready to move here! The beds were comfy and the bathrooms were stocked with anything you may have forgotten. There is a washer & dryer on the main level (with tons of launary soap, bleach, stain remover...) and there is another larger washer & dryer in the lower level. The lower level of the house had exercise equipment and a garage full of every beach accessory you can imagine along with coolers in every size, beach towels, a paddle board, surf board, kayak, snorkel gear, water shoes in every size, sand toys, beach chairs, an umbrella...the list goes on & on. The outdoor area is also gorgeous. The lanai off of the kitchen is just beautiful and big. Wish I had this at home! The hot tub got used in the morning and every evening. You relax in it while surrounded by nothing but nature. So serene!
It is cooler at the house than in town and at the beach since it is up on the mountain, which made the hot tub even better. We never used air conditioning. We had cool mornings and cool evenings at the house and hot, sunny days at the beaches.
The house was easy to get to and in a great location to explore both north and south of the Kona area. You will need to rent a car, but you would want to do that no matter what because this island has so much to see and do!! It was very easy to get around.
The Big Island itself is the most interesting, diverse and nature filled island we have ever been to. The weather was perfect every day. We have fallen in love with this island and with this house. Can't wait to come back! Mahalo!
WE loved our stay in this beautiful home and felt totally taken care of. The location is a little bit off the beaten track but we had no trouble going back and forth to Kona for the wedding and family adventures. The place was so well stocked with everything we needed.
Laura and Gudrun were awesome hosts; available and helpful but not intrusive. The home was spacious and comfortable. Highly recommended if you want space from either crowds or heat. This Alaska family was tickled by the Moose vane as well. Great memories were made. Dreaming of our return.
We enjoyed a wonderful stay here.. the landscape and views were spectacular. We enjoyed the cool breezes and eating out off the patio in the evenings. The separate casita was great for our in laws... it gave them some extra privacy. We liked the location because it was cooler and also close enough to the harbor as we chartered a boat for 4 days. Many thanks for a memorable time.. we will be back!
This is a bright, happy, updated home that feels loved - and feels like its owners really want their guests to be able to make the most of their stay. We've been here twice and would love to return. The property manager is available and tends to pop in to check on things - I'm sure it could be worked out otherwise if desired. Nice to have her there in case of an issue - the dishwasher broke during our stay and addressed the problem. The owners are very friendly and communicative and are happy to accommodate requests and inquiries about your stay. The house is in a location that requires a lot of driving to and from town if one needs to run errands often, and doesn't get a lot of sun due to the clouds at the higher elevation - but nonetheless is a lovely hideaway that feels very private and exclusive. The sunsets peaking through the trees as the sun sinks below the horizon of the sea way off in the distance, are absolutely beautiful. We had a small wedding here and it accommodated almost all of our needs - lots of fridges to store food in, beautiful large lanai for lounging and dining, fairly well-equipped kitchen (though the stove is quite outdated); in our opinion, the only drawback to having gatherings here is that feels short a bathroom - there is really only one small common bathroom with easy access, the other two are in the master bedroom and guest house. Great set-up for laundry (which you really need when frequenting the beach), clean and comfortable bed and bath linens, lots of beach toys, towels, chairs and coolers. There were two beach tents, and we tried each of them on separate days, but unfortunately both of them had seen better days and couldn't be assembled. I left something behind and the property manager was happy to mail it back to me. Overall we highly recommend this place and would love to share it with loved ones again someday.
Kona Mountain Home was a wonderful addition to our once in a life time vacation. We were very relaxed and comfortable in this house. Our family of eight were fortunate to be able to sit down in the mornings and eat breakfast together as we reviewed our plans for the day and most nights we also ate dinner together. Thank you to the Weaver family for sharing this magnificent home with us.
