About Justin Mierz

Justin grew up in Rockport and graduated in 1992 from Rockport High School before heading to East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. Justin returned home after graduation, received a Master of Public Health from the University of Massachusetts, and met his wife, Marcie, in the North End in Boston. Justin was an environmental analyst for the environmental epidemiology program at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for 13 years before resigning and starting up a vacation rental business in 2013. Marcie is a technical project manager in the field of software engineering in the financial services sector . Justin and Marcie live with their two girls - Ava Mae (7 years old) and Sadie (4 years old) - at 40 Atlantic Avenue. The Salty Dog Summer Stay encompasses the whole ground floor of our home and we reside on the 1st and 2nd floors.

Justin Mierz purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Justin Mierz chose Rockport

Justin's great grandparents bought the house in the 1940s, and his step father and aunt grew up there. In 2005, Justin and Marcie were able to purchase the property from the family. At the time, the house was in disrepair. Justin and Marcie slowly made major renovations and were able to restore the house. Justin and Marcie take great pride in their home and are fortunate to be the third generation to raise their family in such a special place.

What makes this apartment unique

Location. Arguably, the best neighborhood to live in Rockport. We are minutes from Old Garden Beach, Bearskin Neck, Headlands, Rockport Harbor, Shalin Liu Performance Center, and downtown's shops, galleries, and restaurants.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I stayed at this house with a few friends for a recent wedding. We had a wonderful time and the house was perfect for us. Justin, the owner is very friendly and was super helpful throughout the whole renting processes. The house itself was very clean, big enough to fit a pretty large party, and very welcoming. It was an extremely hot weekend (high 90's the whole time) and the AC's kept us nice and cool throughout our visit. The back yard was very big and a great place to play catch or grill. The ocean was a 5 minute walk away and was a great pre-wedding activity for us! I highly recommend a stay here...we are planning to do so again next summer!

Great relaxing weekend get away location

  • 5 of 5

Great convenient location within walking distance to shops, restaurants, and water. Beautiful views of flower gardens through the windows. Quiet house and neighborhood. The apartment was clean and had all that we needed - living room, kitchen, two bedrooms, and bathroom. Friendly owner greeting and owner was available if anything was needed. Would stay again!

Sweet & Peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

It's perfect. A comfortable, ideally located retreat, with every amenity we could have needed. I would not hesitate in the slightest to rent this property again. The unit was bright and airy, very clean, and tastefully decorated with cozy furniture. The split bedroom configuration is really nice for a small group or family. Linens, pillows, blankets were all great! Wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you so much for offering your hospitality!

Absolutely LOVED it!

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed here with our two daughters (ages 5 and 2) for three nights. It was the absolute perfect place for us. The apartment itself was clean and bright and spacious. The location is amazing - so close to Bearskin neck and Old Garden Beach! We look forward to going back again next summer.

This rental gets bonus points for having off street parking, a washer/dryer in the apartment, a Rockport beach pass, free wifi and really friendly and accommodating owners. Everything about our stay was pleasant, easy and stress free!

Beautiful, Respectful, & Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Justin was a phenomenal host during my stay! Myself and 6 friends all stayed and had a wonderful time. We are all mid-twenties and long time friends so a small reunion in this amazing location was perfect. We had drinks, played music and some of the awesome classic board games Justin had available to us. The rooms were all good size and well kept, as well as stocked with air conditioners for the guests comfort. The awesome Rockport center and beach were all no more than a half a mile from the house, perfect walking distance for a gentle summer stroll. Justin was a supremely generous host and allowed us our space for the entirety of our stay. I would strongly recommend this location and owner to all! Thanks again for all the hospitality!

Wonderful getaway! Highly recommended!!

  • 5 of 5

We rented the Salty Dog for a little get away with our dear friends. It was a wonderful experience. The home was perfect for the four of us. It was very well maintained and cozy, and provided all the comforts of home. The location was perfect for exploring Rockport by foot, but also a short drive to many of the beautiful north shore towns. The owner, Justin was a pleasure to work with. We would definitely rent this property again.

This is our little slice of Haven!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed here the last 3 years for 2 weeks at a time and it is wonderful. Justian, Marcie and their two wonderful daughters Ava and Sadie make us feel so very welcome. The house great and is always very clean and well taken care of and it is so close to everything that we walk far more than we drive while there. Rockport is a great town not just for the beauty of the ocean and history around the town but for the peole like Justian and his family that make you feel welcome and a part of the community. We can not go next year so please feel free to use our first 2 weeks of August, but do not get used to them because we will be back the 2016!
