About this property

Old School Beach House

Just two hour's drive from Melbourne, Old School Beach House in Venus Bay is the perfect getaway location for romantic weekends, family holidays and time with friends. The beautifully furnished 120-year-old school house features a gabled roof, panelled timber walls and wooden floors, all complemented by a small extension which encompasses 3 bedrooms, a dining room and bathroom/laundry.

The stylishly fitted home has a laid-back, luxurious vide. The main living area is flooded with natural light and includes a comfortable lounge, TV, DVD, Bluetooth speakers and gas heating for the cooler months.

The adjoining kitchen is fully equipped with under bench fridge and freezer, oven/stove, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, KitchenAid coffee machine and a unique Schoolhouse themed pantry catering to all of your local gourmet food and wine storage needs.

The Master and Second bedrooms and equipped with Queen sized beds and floor to ceiling sliding doors which can be opened out onto the back yard. Relax, stay in bed and enjoy the outlook across the tea tree garden, into the Cape Liptrap coastal reserve and sand dunes and listen to the native Eastern Whipbird and ocean waves.

The third bedroom has a single over double bunk plus a trundle mattress. It is a fun room to accommodate the kids and is also able to comfortably accommodate a third couple.

The bathroom/laundry provides toilet, open shower, vanity and washing machine. All basic laundry requirements such as iron, ironing board, washing baskets etc. are available there for your convenience. A cloths line is also attached to the side of the house, particularly useful to dry off those beach towels at the end of a day on the beach.

The natural back yard is home to beautiful native plants, tea trees and has a gas BBQ and outdoor shower. The rustic gate at the back fence opens out onto Cape Liptrap reserve and sand dunes. A stunning walk out that gate and you find yourself at Venus Bay Beach 1, a broad sandy ocean beach that is popular for summing and surfing and is patrolled by the Venus Bay surf lifesaving club during the summer months.

Old School Beach House is also a 10-minute stroll to the main street shops and park and a short drive to the Andersons Inlet Coastal Reserve.

Winter Short Stay
Everything was exactly as advertised and Michelle was just great in taking me through the set up when we arrived after dark. Nothing was too much trouble. Despite the bucket loads of rain, we got some quick visits in to some local spots, yummy town cafe and a walk to the beach but were very glad to return to a lovely warm house each time. Thank you for providing a great space to stay in.

Cosy
We had a great stay in this gorgeous cottage. It was warm and cosy on a couple of chilly nights, within walking distance to the shops and beach. Would definitely stay here again. Thank you to Michelle for being so accommodating with our last minute change.

Fabulous property- old schoolhouse
Michelle the host was excellent and very engaging. We arrived to a handwritten note and a bottle of wine. I loved how the property had been modernised on the inside but had kept some of the old features too. The house is beautifully decorated and feels like a home away from home. Because the gas and electricity was turned off when we arrived which is understandable, the hot water took a few hours to heat up from the water tank so don’t expect a warm shower when you arrive. We had a wonderful weekend and would absolutely recommend the old schoolhouse and Venus Bay beach: We also went to the shell museum at Inverloch which is a short drive away and well worth the the $2 donation per person which contributes to the upkeep of the museum. Thanks for the wonderful hospitality!
