Retired engineer. Moved up to TN from Florida. Custom built house constructed by one of the best contractors to accommodate me, my wife and occasional grand kids. Garden spot is used every year and some fresh veges are available to guests in season.
DeVere purchased this chalet in 1997
On 10 acre mountain top; quiet with almost no noise, traffic, or air pollution but close enough to get on main highways and to small towns without extensive mountain driving. We enjoy all seasons from water sports in the summer to trout fishing on the prestine Hawassee River and hiking in the fall and winter; all within the most beautiful mountain scenery in Tennessee.
Very quiet, clean air and virtually no traffic with excellent year round views. Accessible on paved county or state roads .Garden spot ( vegies and flowers) on top of mountain (very unique). Away from the tourist traps and extreme traffic congestion in the Gatlinburg area but close enough for antique shopping, supermarkets, restaurants and local hospital in Etowah . About 2 hours to Gatlinburg and Dollywood - an easy one day excursion for shopping or entertainment. Reasonable local prices, excellent doctors in Knoxville at University of TN (1.5 hours away) and local hospital in Etowah (30 minutes away) had what we were looking for.
Beautiful house and property. Gorgeous mountaintop views. Spacious accommodations for our large group. We will return!

The house provide enough room and comfort to satisfy everyone's needs from age 3-70. The well stocked kitchen provided everything needed to prepare our breakfast and dinners. The hot tub for 2 was relaxing. The kids enjoyed the loft while the adults enjoyed the comfortable bedrooms and 4 baths. The covered decks were heavenly during the rainstorms!
Use GPS (N 35.232834, W 84.431249) to get to correct location.
Using the street address will get you lost in beautiful Monroe County!! (But it is a beautiful 10 miles of steep mountain curvy dirt road!!)
Cell phone service is very spotty in the mountains. Verizon worked on the deck. ATT would not. BEWARE. Land line phone calls to anywhere beyond the next room are probably $$$ long distance!!
Thank you to the Foxworth's for their hospitality and great Customer Service. I am already looking forward to our next visit!!
My family and I enjoyed this house. We were a party of 12 and it met our needs
I love the Hiwassee River and surrounding countryside. Staying in this beautiful house on top of a mountain just enhanced our experience. With the wrap around deck/covered porches the views were amazing. The sun rises over the front porch, sets over the back porch. Best of both worlds.
4 bathrooms makes it comfortable for larger groups. The two bedrooms with only queen beds cuts down the number of people who will have a bed, unless you are bringing only couples or folks who do not mind sharing a bed. This is a very minor inconvenience since there are couches to spread out on. We enjoyed our stay so much, we booked the house for two weeks later. Cannot give a better endorsement that going back!
We stayed in the top two levels. The tastefully decorated home was comfortable. The roads to the chalet were quite curvy. Glad it was not wintertime.
Had an amazing time this past weekend. Plenty of room and really nice people. Highly recommended!
The owner was great to work with, he called to make sure we got a hold of the lady to open the gate to the property. He was one of the only cabins rentals that would allow me to book without purchasing the additional damage coverage. We were hauling a truck with a trailer and a 15 passenger van full of teens and the driveway was difficult for us to get up. The owner just put new gravel down but because of the sharp turns in the driveway, along with the incline, neither of us could get all the way up the driveway. The very first night we were there my husband got stuck by a copperhead snake. He stepped off of the deck and onto the gravel of the driveway and it stuck him, but didn't get it's fangs into his calf. Needless to say, I have pictures of a copperhead snake WAY to close, that I would rather not have! There was a scorpion downstairs climbing up the wall in the bedroom with the kitchen in it. There were several spiders, one of which was under the toilet seat, so do a courtesy flush before you sit down. Two of the girls got bit by something that made them itch and left red marks on them. There was a wasp nest right outside the entry door and a bees nest located by the hot tub and the swing out on the deck. The neighbor dogs came over to visit, there are both very friendly but my dog doesn't like other dogs, so it made it more difficult for us to bring our dog outside. There are a couple maintenance issues, such as the master bathroom door and the sprayer in the kitchen sink. The phones were out on the mountain and there is absolutely no cell phone service, so I couldn't contact the owner to let him know all of this during our stay, but I did let him know of the issues once I got back. The owner said they sprayed before we came and that they lived there for eight years and never saw a copperhead. I just want to make sure that others are aware for safety reasons. I had my youth group kids there and wasn't expecting all the issues we experienced. Praise God it was my husband that the snake went after and not one of the kids. It takes at least 40 minutes to get into Cleveland where there is a hospital and a Walmart to get benadryl and itch cream and that was during daylight. It was a beautiful setting and a nice cabin and the owner did respond to my emails. Just be cautious.
